Perhaps he thought he had to mason early to use his power at all, as Marv clarified was not the case, and then just sent in first guy he got a townread on. He DID say he was going to be busy this weekend.

It's also kind of odd for a mafia player to do something like that which is so overtly attention-grabbing.
