I think for townie players using Bullying as a style you have to find a good balance so that you don't get people calling you scum simply because they hate your play style. Pressure is good. Bullying, in most cases, needs to be kept in check for town to work well together otherwise the VTs who were bullied early will be unwilling or less willing to cooperate with town. hehe <3 Though I do want to make a comment on "aggression" and "pressure" since it's something that comes up in post-game advice a lot. I generally recommend that players be more aggressive, and perhaps that's a bit of a misrepresentation - "direct" is probably a better word. Aggression is often good (making your opinions clear, etc), but it can be taken to negative extremes. When you begin to antagonize players or get too emotional, aggression can blind you and create a negative town atmosphere. While emotion and heated exchanges are very much an integral part of the game, part of your job as town is to create a productive atmosphere. That being said, we're not robots and it's impossible to avoid emotion in this game. However, things will be fine if you know how to check yourself. On another note aggression, can make one look very townie. Being willing to pursue and "care" about your reads is very much a townie quality. Good townies often have a degree of aggression on full display. Good scum are great at faking it.

I agree with a lot of debears points, but I wanted to make some comments of my own (especially my own insights from coaching exchanges) Town debears - Well played! Solid activity and analysis! From our coaching correspondance, I feel you try and make things too formulaic at times. There were several PM's you sent me where you were trying to be far too predictive of mafia's actions and create almost a "template" for "what would scum do in this situation." Try to avoid that type of thinking beyond very concrete information (i.e. sfter you see a couple of votes and flips and can try to predict scum voting strategy). It's hard to predict what other players are going to do. Often scum can do one of many things in a situation - your job is not to predict, but to analyze what has been already done and make inferences. Djodref - Another hearty "well played!" To nitpick a bit - that blue claim was pretty sub-optimal. Even though it ended well (since you forced through the clarity lynch), it could have ended very badly if you were wrong. In situations like that, you don't need to claim until you think you'll be lynched. You don't need to rush. Alsn - Well played (again)! I like debears suggestion before that you should be a bit more aggressive - you're a sharp player and you need to push your ideas more. One thing that stuck out to me in your filter early was your suspicion on debears. We discussed it in coaching, but there was a ton of confirmation bias in that one. You really need to be a bit more mindful of the context of someone's play or you can end up tunneling one of the more obvious townies in the game. In general, avoid going after those types of players (super active, emotional, demanding attention) in the early game. It rarely ends well. Obzy - Very impressive showing for a first-time townie! From our coaching correspondence: have some more confidence! Your analysis was often on-point, yet you always presented yourself as very unsure and emotionally conflicted. It's OK to let some of that out at times, but you won't be able to push your reads if you aren't confident in them yourself. Rad - Good job, great activity, and a solid showing! You were defending nl_clarity for some inexplicable reasons somewhere toward the middle of the game. From what I remember, you had a slight-town/null read on him yet were really resistant to the idea of lynching him. That's really not a reason to hard-defend someones lynch. Remember: scum want to blend in, and often fall in these player-types. Not all scum are going to scum-slip left and right in the thread. You need to consider these types of players more unless you have a really good lynch alternative. Mr. Cheesecake - You played a good D1, and I don't really blame you for the mislynch. Be mindful that showing such an overt survival instinct (especially when you're not under suspicion) can be considered a scumtell. You were somewhat fixated on Djo early in the game, which is a classic case of tunneling an active, inconsistent townie. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=379514¤tpage=40#799 For example this post here is some pretty bad reasoning to vote someone. Don't hold other people to your standard and your mistakes (they are not you after all). In addition, the whole 180 on pressure-voting thing... that's not scummy. If he did a 180 on a player, that is something to consider. But not on a topic like pressure-voting. da0ud - Good stuff! This is more active than I've seen you play in the past and it really showed in your gameplay. You contributed some very good things to town and played a very solid game. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=379514¤tpage=75#1496 This post in particular was an impressive piece of analysis. Scum I'm a bit hesitant to give you advice because you both played a pretty solid game under some very unusual circumstances. Don't let your loss here discourage you in future games - you played really well but ran into a really active town (and some role PM shenanigans). But briefly: Sylver - Your activity was solid, unfortunately everyone else was like super active. Debears outlined some of the holes scumplay earlier very well: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=379514¤tpage=89#1762 ...your aggression was solid, but you weren't mindful of masking your motives at times. You had a bit of a trigger finger with spreading suspicion and not following up on it, which let several players key into you early. Clarity - You played a really solid game, and I don't think you would have died D2 in virtually any other newbie game. If there was a "mistake" in your game, it was your lack of aggression and conviction early on D1. But honestly, it's pretty incredible that players picked up on it, and you'd probably be fine and alive in other games.
