I think YourHarry tried this in one of the newbie games for the first few hours of his play, just so he was comfortable at the start of the game in the event he rolled scum. Beyond that, I don't think it's a very legitimate strategy - you lose a lot by not being able to communicate with your teammates, and in addition, you're prone to showing a very sudden mentality shift (before and after you check the role PM). Not if you play scum with a townie mentality!

Hmmmm. I'll keep this in mind the next time I play.
Should I go for epic 30 pg filter and game without looking at role pm?
Actually I just thought through this.
If you're scum and you nail your two teammates, then when nks don't show up you will realize you are the last scum....making your previous edge worthless

And you discover all the insults in the scum QT ^^ I was thinking at this strategy only for D1 though, but I don't think I could resist to open the PM anyway.

You know it sucks when the advice you get is "this one thing" and "in any other game you would've been fine" :D The answer is I shouldn't play with you guys cause you're too good, obviously.
Rad, you lucky bugger, I want a HotS invite

Yeah I know clarity :< Also, I feel like the time expectations are too high for me. I was procrastinating on a lot of things cause of this game. Just keeping up with the thread every time I came back to it was hard.

Oh marv, a rather late question: Did you randomize roles or pick them, and how balanced do you feel the setup for this game was? Thanks!
|
As far as balance, this setup is pretty close to what mafiascum.net is currently using as its newbie setup so I'm guessing it's pretty balanced. They use Mafia RoleCop rather than Roleblocker though, to remove blocker v. jailkeeper precedence issues in newbie games (there doesn't seem to be overwhelming consensus on what method to use for precedence there)

Sorry clarity, I got lucky ^^
PM me to play if you get one though :D

Oh yeah, global servers and all, I just might =]

Eh. I just don't see HotS being that good. I feel like they went completely in the wrong direction with it :/
I sure hope Bliz does make it amazing so I can get back to being super excited about sc2 again
