One of the sites is hardcore though and really in your face, not sure if you guys would want balls those big in the games though. If you invite any 2+2 guys, make sure it isn't the obvious scrubs. On a side note, here is a list of 200 players who have played at least 5 games here, yet haven't played within the last six months. We should go harass them to play again. Except Kavdragon. He can stay far away.
Also, if you figure that TL has at least a half a million (totally made up figure) registered users and only 1000 of them have played a game of mafia, I'm sure there are things we could do to draw more interest to attract more than 0.2% of users. With the amount of traffic TL gets compared to your typical mafia site, we really should have a larger active player base than we currently do.

I know the topic has been talked about to death, and it probably won't ever change, but I think a big hurdle to getting a larger, more active player base is fixing the culture in our games lately.
So much raging/yelling back and forth makes it really hard for new people to want to stick around.

Meh. While I understand the whole "I don't want to read 100 page games" mentality, I think in general it actually improves the quality of the games (at least, improves the quality of town :\) rather than detracts from it.
Spamming can get a bit overboard occasionally, but for the most part I think the amount of posting is fine.

Nah I really think Ace hit the nail on the head. Coag spreading the word coupled with Aperture Mafia 2p2 and NWM were the only reason I am here.

I'm definitely interested in playing a cross-site game! I just finished playing a cross-site game on Vendetta Strada, and it was a really fun experience (otherwise it's rare to play with several "new" experienced players). Something like 50-80% of spots reserved for players from other sites might be good? The game should probably be somewhat large since I'd think there would be demand for such a game.
The Diplomacy Mafia game also seems interesting and I'll probably be playing!
Foolishness: Actually you can remove my game (Mystery Mini Mafia) from the queue. There are a couple of reasons:
1) I mostly intended to just try out hosting with that game and I never had any huge enthusiasm about hosting it.
2) It seems like there are plenty of really interesting games coming up and my game would just slow down them becoming playable.
3) I think it might be a bigger "service" to the site to play rather than to host - considering the declining sign-up rate and the steady rate of games being hosted.

I think there's a difference between getting other mafia players from other sites interested and recruiting new blood. Getting players from other sites means getting people who have already played a lot of mafia and are familiar with the game. A lot of people already play on multiple sites anyways. Recruiting new blood is why we host newbie games, so those people can get familiar with the game of mafia without having to jump into a game with a bunch of people who are mean and dirty already experts.
It has been a while since we advertised on TL. We can always default to making a topic in Other Games, though I would think it would be cool if we could somehow get a spotlight article on the front page of TL at some point. hmmmm

I agree with this sentiment but it's hard to know exactly how much this pushes people away. The behavior thing is a much bigger problem from what I've seen.

this is a thread that doesn't get bumped enough.
If you guys want to make a news bulletin feature, I can see about getting it spotlighted/tweeted (I was pretty explicitly told recently that we *want* to tweet major mafia announcements), I could also enable it for html if we have anyone versed in the html arts. ^_^
RE: Behavior, if we want to tighten the behavior rules, I'm all for it, I think it'd be good for the community, but I'm not going to fight the entire forum singlehandely, if this is something we want, hosts need to be on board.
RE: Thread sizes: This is actually one of the reasons I don't play anymore, 100 page threads day 1 are ridiculous. Props to people who have time to read them all, I certainly don't. I'm not sure its a problem with an easy solution or even if it is a problem, but it may be affecting retention.
