Ng5 was invaluable in PMs by the way, I can't emphasize that enough. And on the forum - he really got DrH talking when he did his series of long posts.

Clue interpreting felt to me like people overall found it less important than behavioral stuff, which is probably more reliable anyway.

Exactly. Most of the people who play a lot don't really bother much with clues. Personally, I just find it a bit too unreliable as a way of finding out mafia, so I usually don't bother.

Agreed. Either the mafia need to be working very closely together (so closely that they can catch the biases in the posts of each other) or they need to act completely independently.

It'd be an interesting variation to play a game where the mafia don't know who the others are.

There was one. It was called "Red Army Mafia"

We communicated via mIRC at #eggsalad

mostly myself/mystlord/keit, but keit eventually tilted and started acting very strangely. He told Jugan in a PM that I was an asshole and told everyone to lynch him and that this game is hella gay after painting me as mafia for no reason

phrujbaz/hyperbola occasionally dropped in, but there was zero communication with derfboy

it was mostly me and mystlord conversing over irc

Ah, be very careful using IRC for mafia. There have been IRC infiltrations in previous games. And how much communication was going on in those chats? Just hitlist discussion? Or post/PM checking?

It was a private channel and we usually used names like MafiaX MafiaY

Phrujbaz used the name yalalala, for example.

We mostly used it to discuss the hitlist, although we ended up talking about our plans. Communication could have been a lot better though. A lot of mafia never responded to my PMs and such.

Ah, sounds like you had the IRC under control. And the communication is an underrated piece of playing as the mafia, but it is very very important. I think a lot of the vets could learn to talk a lot more too. (Notice that in Ver's game the mafia weren't even in contact with their best bluesniper. Failed miserably.)

The write-up for the Red Army Mafia was really funny - I saw it the other day looking at older games. I couldn't stop laughing at the game and role descriptions.

I think the clues part was very fun, but sometimes I thought deeper connection into them than there really was.

The bad side was that even the misconnections lead to other mafia members.

I mean the only stickier thing was the last mafia member when we would have already been 16-1, we would't have had to worry about the case of meeple being mafia - since we would have had more than five nights of clues before catching him could have gotten tricky.

That's the only case scenario I wanted to save up magicbullet for. Sniping meeple if things get close still. His possible red colour was the only possible thing able to spoil the game for the town at that time.

Oh so that whole arguments and voting for eachother was real. I assumed it was staged to throw suspicion off the other if one of you got found out lol. It was when I decided that I thought Keit was definitely mafia.

It makes sense now lol. At the time after reading it all I was like ... ok they are both mafia, but why the heck would they be doing this? Is it staged? So why did Keit flip out like that?

Yeah, clues can be somewhat misleading, especially early on. Although, I guess they serve fine as a method to incite talking during the day, which is pretty valuable in itself.

just wait till you get in a game involving L and RoL. You're patience and sanity will be tested.
