I think it was explained earlier in the thread a few pages back but afaik china messed up in the all around quallies and barely got into the team final and did have one guy on reserve for individual final but when the spot opened up he decided not to participate.
Yeah, hence the reason almost everyone (and most Chinese included) thought that China wouldn't have much of a chance at all in the team comp. Truly amazing how they pulled through in the end to get a gold there :x
Hope Sun Yang will gold in the 1500 by a bit margin keke gogo.
Guys who is the guy that sits infront and just talks in men rowing? i just saw rowing finals where germany won, and all teams had a guy siting infront and talking what is his role?
He or She is a called a Coxswain and is there to shout and the members to make them row faster =P
The role of a coxswain in a crew is to:
Keep the boat and rowers safe at all times by properly steering the boat (according to the river or regatta rules and safety for the crew)
Be in command of the boat at all times
Coach the crew when the coach is not present
Provide motivation and encouragement to the crew
Provide feedback on the crew's performance both in and out of the races
Make any necessary tactical decisions
Organize and direct the crew at all times, including when putting the boat away etc.
Be responsible for the vessel; in the event of a collision, the coxswain is accountable under maritime law as 'Master of the vessel' (although the stroke may be sometimes the captain of the boat).
I hope Belmonte Garcia didn't leave her push too late in that 800m free.
Will suck massively for her if she misses out on the finals because she tried to conserve a bit too much energy after having done the 200m fly the other night
omfg the judo wtf rofl Was 1-0 GB women, 20 seconds left, contreversial descion to award the other lady a point with 20 seconds left (after like 20second discussion with refs/umpires) then with 3 seconds to go she lands a "yuko" and wins 2-1. Crazy
Le Clos looked good again, very strong finish and didn't even seem like he'd tried too hard. I'm not a betting man but I could see him pipping Phelps again.

Phelps had a horrible first 50 m. It was only because of a good finish he actually qualified at all. If it was just a bad start it is no real problem, but if it was a general tactics he will get spooned in the finals.

Well Le Clos did the same thing really, they both went out slow and finished fast. I think both have a bit of extra in reserve, there's still semis to get through before they can even think about medals.
Not sure whether Cavic will contest, he went out like a rocket but looked completely spent in his last 50. Might have just been a bit overeager but that wasn't a good sign.
