I'm not sure that has ever come up as a good justification for anything...ever? And sure, Riot, hasn't been policing every single instance of each player's personal lives. However, this particular incident wasn't private. It upset certain people enough that it hit local news outlets - third parties brought it to Riot. If they throw up their hands and say "no problem man, all in good fun" they start down a terribly terrible slippery slope. Who gives a shit if the fans have to endure a small subset of slightly-worse-than-they-would-have-been games - there are more important things in this world. And I'm not trying to be hyperbolic in the slightest. If you're at all familiar with what has been happening the past few weeks regarding the NFL and their players (and said players actions/punishments/public opinion), you would see what is much farther down that said slope...and down there, people very much get hurt in a very real way. I'm not using that as justification, I'm saying that it strongly implies he was unaware of the weight of his actions. Intent has to come into it. Is banning a team's jungler 1 day before the biggest tournament of the year begins a fitting punishment for cultural insensitivity born out of sheer ignorance rather than malice? In monetary terms Regi was fined only slightly less than Svenskeren for announcing a roster change on Twitter and CLG was fined twice as much for account sharing. I just find Riot's (or rather Nick Allen's) rulings on such matters to be arbitrary as fuck and it leaves me longing for some sort of governing body, rather than the whims of one incredibly reactionary guy. | ||
