S1, S2 and S3 finals all had huge fuckups in terms of tournament format/running so I don't exactly trust Riot to not fuck it up.
How was S3 a huge fuck up in that regard? Tsm get the most difficult group, c9 no warm-ups Let's be fair here. TSM wasn't getting out of either group and saying C9 had no warm up because they got seeded is pretty lol Idk, I'd give TSM a pretty decent chance to get out of that group. Vulcun almost got out, and Gambit/Ozone played really poorly at Worlds. I know TSM fans are delusional, but this is new level. lol. im not even sure if TSM as it is now which is 100folds stronger than TSM with regi last season could win a group with Gambit/Fnatic. The old TSM team had 0 chance of making it out against Fnatic/Gambit. Considering how Fnatic has been playing these last couple weeks it's not that unlikely. Edit: Oh I see what you meant nvm Gambit and fnatic are overrated. People always say gambit are the korean killers, bootcamp, etc. When's the last time they won a tournament that mattered? Fnatic lost to C9 legitimately and excuses can't be made about that series. Fnatic were practicing, they just sucked when Kassadin gets banned out. "When's the last time they won a tournament that mattered?" When is the last time any team won a tournament that mattered, other than SKT? It seems like most people think Worlds is all that matters anyway, but even if you consider pretty much the only other two recent tournaments there is EU LCS Summer and Spring, one of which they won... So I don't know what you expect. And Fnatic won the other one who you are calling overrated. How much more do you expect from those teams? Honestly, I am curious. Gambit vs KT B is still one of my favorite LCS matches even though it was purely exhibition.

Well the last time there were any tournamnets outside LCS. Lol. A tournament between 4 real teams, 1 of which was actually a terrible team (CLG) compared to the other 3 isn't a real tournament. Lol do you not get it? You ask when there was the last time when they won a tournament, when there actually are no tournaments to win anymore. Because Riot killed them with LCS. That is why your question is so painful.

Well I was responding to it being a "surrogate for real international competition".
I can't say I really care too much about the reward though. It's really just the one team that doesn't do well doesn't get a top 8 placement, right? It just means that for whichever region does worst, the best team from that region has to make it out of groups. Meh. Riot said that this shit with bye rounds won't happen again. Thank God i hope it won't be like replays or Magma Chamber. #neverforget S1, S2 and S3 finals all had huge fuckups in terms of tournament format/running so I don't exactly trust Riot to not fuck it up. They weren't playing close to their usual standards (which with Edward is definitely higher than TSM). i agree they are overrated (especially fnatic) but on other hand gambit completely crushed c9 last time they played, games werent even close

Fnatic actually won both Spring and Summer, Gambit were 2nd and 3rd respectively, Gambit's last win was Katowice iirc, but the only other recent "International tournament" I can recall Koreans not winning (when they were present) was IEM Singapore where IG beat Frost.
Edit: Forgot IEM Cologne... woops, not quite the same level of competition but still a win

I love how every time people compare teams from different regions they always reference games from like 6 months ago and a completely different patch/metagame. Because that's just how great LoL's international competition is.

Ahh that's right my mistake, but the point still stands since he called Fnatic overrated.
