Two things as public notice: 1. + Show Spoiler [Quarterfinals 1 spoiler] +Congrats to Fnatic, they played superbly and glgl to them in the Semis! No one is saying that Fnatic only won because of the level 1 in Game 3. Please keep the nationalistic statements out of our subforum. 2. Riot's Worlds format is atrocious. Let's not beat a dead horse here. I will certainly be talking to Riot's eSports dept about it in the near future. I simply ask everyone to be civil. Humble in victory, graceful in defeat. Enjoy the games~ -Neo, Sept 23rd, 3:20 PM PDT, page 120 |
Just watched OMG vs Royal. G1 was great, but to me G2 was a really sad experience to me. OMG had a pretty intelligent comp (lulu & shen to take care of zed), and did some nice play on the side, killing some people by picking them in the river, but really what's the point in playing anything else than an assassin ?
They got completly stomped during all team fights, and sure OMG should have positionned better and played better, but what's the point in picking a team oriented comp if you can just pick hyper carry and instantly shit on the other team if they don't play perfectly ?

As much attention that Uzi got I feel that Tabe+Godlike made the big plays, whereas bigpomelo made the anti-plays that really cost them.

Even though Uzi is their star, Royal's game is really won and lost on their solos. Even if Uzi gets shut down, his ability to farm from behind is insane and he will always be relevant again by the time he's needed, whereas it's much more important for their solo laners to get the snowball rolling.
It's really on Cyanide and xPeke to recognize this, because if they focus too much on pressuring bot lane, and let Godlike and Wh1t3zz do their thing, they will lose the game.

Fnatic doesn't fall into the "we have to shutdown xxx" trap. They always play their game and stick with their style, they don't watch the opposing team and say "omg we have to do this to counter them". So far it's been working great for them, we'll have to see how they adapt to the chinese ultra aggressive style but I think they can handle it since they like running TP, which should help backing up lanes that are dived.

They also haven't played either of the teams who have 1 player who's so scary to invite that kind of hype, though.

Froggen was the original faker. They know how to shut down 1 guy.

You can hardly compare the insane Faker hype train to a guy who was a virtual unknown outside of China this time yesterday.

Everyone in the pro scene has heard of Uzi ...

Uzi has been hyped for months wtf.

you guys are being silly sitting in a bubble if you think uzi was known by everyone for months.

I watch EU and NA LCS as well as OGN and the only thing I knew about Uzi coming into this tournament were based on Chaox's comments a few weeks ago about his last hitting, the Caitlyn kiting vid and a few comments here and there about him being one if not the best ADC's in China. The people I play League with, who visit the LoL subreddit daily and watch all the big EU/NA events had never even heard of him. He's had almost no international exposure prior to yesterday and to compare his hype with Faker, who I'm pretty sure would win a "best player in the world?" poll by a landslide on any popular Western LoL website/forum is silly. Uzi's hype right now is no greater than that of players like Misaya, Froggen, Maknoon, Shy, CaptainJack etc before him.

I think it has a lot more to do with the general population being less exposed to outside scenes than TL as a whole.
Probably two thirds or more of reddit never knew who faker was until the zed play.
The idea that a team that dumpstered NA LCS(C9) would go out first round in quarters was unthinkable for so many of the more casual players who followed only LCS.
Having yango constantly telling us that XXX or YYY is best XXX in the world helps as well.

This.
Sure the NA/EU audience didn't know about Uzi till yesterday, but they didn't know about Faker for that long either.
