Almost no one in the west watches lpl, the hype for the rematch going to be lost. The reason I asked if royal had a good chance against skt, cuz if they were matched up then omg vs royal hype train they've been building up on the analyst desk is gone.
Edit:inb4 conspiracy, I'm just saying storylines pretty good for these quarterfinal matches. And work well for what riot was trying to achieve in the hinted storylines throughout the past week
i honestly don't think the royal vs omg rivalry storyline is all that big. the main attraction is in the teams themselves, showcasing their play and style to the west. their rivalry is pretty big in china, but western fans just see 2 chinese teams.
Have you been watching the broadcast? They fucking mention it a million times how omg is considered the best but then lost to royal. It was obvious riot was setting up as many possible storylines for quarter finals. They also kept mentioning 'how good is najin?' Or 'who da fuq is gama bears?' Etc. Etc.
yea, but honestly, regardless of how many times they say it, audience won't care as much as they would if royal was going up against a team like c9.

TSM vs royal would be even more hype than C9 even though TSM isn't in the event anymore. NA audience is hopeless.
Nice quarterfinals, wouldn't you agree? Lower half of the bracket has the #1 Teams from China/EU(W)/NA and the #2 from China. Upper half has #1 from Korea. Gama bears as the dark horse. If you could replace NJBS with KTB and swap one Chinese with one Korean team it would be perfect. Gambit or TSM, well I think they are on pretty much the same skill level.
So, gonna be an awesome QF for sure. And Gambit vs NJBS is probably much more interesting than Gambit vs KTB, I'm really looking forward to this one. fnatic - C9. OMG - RC. nice nice nice

I'd argue more hype for c9 vs fnatic + royal vs omg. Than c9 vs royal + omg vs other seeded team
Also considering the hype lovelin has brought, eyes on omg no matter what. And good ol' na vs eu too good, imo.
well yea, because na vs eu is so big. but i was just picking an example to say that royal getting western exposure against some kind of performance standard the western audience can judge against is important. this is especially true if OMG rolls over them.
if another NA team made it to the quarters then that would have worked much better for riot

Essentially the argument is that its better to have every match be hyped above average than having regionally hyped matches. China/Kor doesn't care too much about c9 vs Fnatic but na EU do a ton. But everyone would want to see Kor vs C9 or Fnatic.

Why throwbargains? Why?
Possible format for 12 teams. With 12 teams, would have just create 3 groups of 4. Top of each group moves on. 2nd of each group fight it out for 4th slot. Then regular draws/brackets.

Korea vs fnatic already played out. Though mostly dade storyline and less fnatic. NA vs EU is such a stupidly hyped storyline that is too good not to have, and for it to happen in quarterfinals is perfect, cuz lets face it, aside from c9 matching up with gambit/bears and fnatic in same bracket vs the opposite, the chances of na vs eu not happening is HUGE. RIOT got lucky with these draws

yea but we all knew that was never gonna happen, which is why riot thought one step ahead and gave out byes for each region
The #1 seeds aside from God have too much time to practice. They only needed to guess like 4-5 teams to prep for. Plus, they've seen a lot of picks from the 8 games alone from the group stage teams. Meanwhile, the group stage teams have no idea what is in store for them.
Guys, I was only able to catch some games on the first day, and some today. I already asked for game recommendation and I'm watching OMG vs LD, today's match, any other great games I should watch? :D
