Well there was this one guy named Bruce Lee. You might've heard of him ...

He's far more skilled than athletic lol.

what's the definition of athletic anyway in that way.

bruce lee definitely was atheltic lol.

Every worldclass gymnast is athletic as hell. And asians are top notch there, too.

Just finished watching today games. Korea dominant. Just amazing play. As xpecial said you can't outban them and it's so hard to pick against them. they have so many champs that are so strong. I mean you can't even outban 1, how you want to do it against 4 or 5. Koreans showing the world how to esports once again. Until other nations going to take esports serious enough (china comes close I guess) it will stay that way.

yes i'm not denying that bruce lee is athletic or that gymnasts are athletic. i'm saying that NBA players are by far the MOST athletic. they are physical specimens beyond their peers.

for one, to even compete in the NBA you need to be at the very least somewhere above 6 foot. and even then, these guys are quick as hell. basketball requires extreme speed/agility, body control, physical strength, vertical leap, etc. no other sport demands that much physical requirements. athleticism is so important in basketball that some people who are completely dumb and have extremely low basketball IQ are in the NBA (ex. Kwame Brown) just because of their rare physical attributes.

Guys like Lebron James can probably play multiple sports as a professional athlete easy. I'm willing to bet my money that LBJ could become an NFL player right this second and that if he wanted to, could have been a professional soccer player or baseball player. He is just that physically gifted and athletic.

just curious, do you watch basketball/NBA?

Wow, you really have a hard on for the NBA. I'm not even sure what you are arguing anymore, because there are chinese people in the Nba who do very well. It kinda seems that the core point of your argument is that Americans / nba players are genetically superior to other peoples / races... But I mean a Racist and irrelevant argument like that would have no place in a lol LR thread, right?

I would say both football and soccer require significantly more athleticism than basketball. I don't understand how you can say NBA players are the "most" athletic. Sure, Lebron James could probably play football instead of basketball if he wanted to, but he's a freak of nature. Most NBA players would get completely crushed in the NFL, who are you kidding? Derrick Rose gets injured if someone breathes on him, while football players get tackled and beaten up every single day.

sure, but football puts more emphasis on physical strength/strategy rather than "skills".
basketball demands so many more physical attributes.
football is a bit on the extreme end in terms of physical strength, but I would say an NBA player would have the most success in other sports in general. Some soccer players are quite athletic too but I think there is a lot more emphasis on "skills" as there are some players who are pretty tiny/not amazingly athletic (ie messi) but are extremely good.

I've seen many basketball players who were said to be able to play at pro or near pro level in other sports (LBJ, Steve Nash, and Nate Robinson who is/was actually quite good at football, etc.) but haven't seen it much the other way around.

did we all suddenly forget bo jackson?(football/baseball)

Truth is, any talented athlete can go cross sport, I'm sure lebron can play any sport he pleases. So can MJ, or Wayne Gretzky, or Roger Clemens. The reason you don't see many football players cross sport even though they can is b/c football is a significantly more physically and mentally taxing sport then Basketball or Soccer. In Basketball and Soccer, you do not need to memorize a 1000 paged playbook. Granted you do have to figure out formations and tactics, but they are no where near as specific and measured as a football play. Even if you have the time and capacity to memorize the professional plays of both sports, football still requires you to "build" a certain way, and you'd need the physical capacity to do that.

And to counter your other point, world class gymnasts are 10x more athletic than NBA players. The entire sport is based on athleticism, whereas you can get away in basketball by being a smart player who sets up plays or by having a good touch on your jumpshot. Gymnastics.... there's no way around it except by being a beast. Have you even watched Olympics male gymnastics and what they have to do on the rings??

agree to disagree.
you're arguing that gymnastics as a sport require more athleticism.
I'm arguing that basketball has a player pool with overall more athleticism that can't be emulated by sheer "enthusiasm". Original post was about how China would be better than NBA if they had the same interest/passion for basketball which I completely disagree with.

You just happened to name a few extremely athletic basketball players. Lebron James is built in a way that he can definitely play football. Nate Robinson too, as he's about the same size as Ray Rice. But if either of them actually decided to pursue football professionally, they would have to train their asses off to meet the standards of athleticism of the NBA. They would not be strong enough, fast enough, or have as much endurance from the get-go (football is by nature a much more physically demanding sport). On the other hand, if a top wide receiver or running back switched to basketball, I would argue that they would have to train less to improve their athleticism. They would already be some of the fastest and strongest NBA players in the league. They would, however, have to train a crapload in terms of skillset (dribbling, handling, shooting). But this is more a specific skillset needed for basketball rather than pure athleticism.

Why the hell are you guys talking about athleticism here? It's the most inane tangent I've read all week.

BTW, anyone got links to the interviews (or a transcript is ideal since I don't speak Kor and can't read Chinese).

Outside of Korea, I actually thought NA looked really good =). I wonder how the CN squad individually felt about their performance, etc.

Thanks if you folks got any info.
