The thing is, I'd expect TL to have a much higher percentage of viewers with the necessary understanding to appreciate top-level play, so it's more or less expected that a lot of TL viewers would enjoy even seeing two "faceless" teams that play at the top level. But this isn't going to hold to communities that have lower average skill level, where the majority of viewers don't appreciate the nuances.

And even on TL we have players like Shake that have that high-level understanding and STILL value the emotional investment in a team they care about over seeing top level play.

Sword super dives and ignores the tower, and then dies to tower. LOL

It's sadly just a fact that people are less engaged when they lack an emotional connection to the players or teams involved. As Yango has said, the real challenge to LoL is if Koreans/Other Asians take over everything and make it harder for people to want to care. I mean, look at MLG SC2. There's only been one foreign winner of an MLG ever since the Koreans arrived (HuK) and one other Finals with a Foreigner (Naniwa). Ever since 2012, no foreigner has made it to the Finals at all.

Yes, completely agree. I didnt play sc2 at all besides campaign and customs but I really enjoyed all the tournaments since beta. Since all these koreans popped up it just stopped being interesting because of the lack of connection with the players. Not that I am discriminating, it's just that they don't speak english and so it's harder for me to understand them and like their personality. The same holds true for football, I can't quite like some foreign players and teams (mostly eastern europeans and russians) although I believe they play phenomenally.

The fact that LoL is so much funier to play than it is to watch is due to the game being more fun to play than sc2 imo :p

I fail to understand why personality matters more than good play. It just doesn't make sense.

Watching tournaments and streams is about entertainment rather than education for the most part. That means you want to have an emotional connection to the media at hand for maximum impact (just like how you want to connect with the characters of a book or movie). Feeling the highs as your team wins, or the sad swings when they lose; it makes the experience more intense.

Exactly. If everyone was rooting for winners, last year everyone would be a Barcelona fan, this year everyone would be a Chelsea fan. Yet, why are so many ppl Mourinho fans if he doesnt win the biggest league since 04?

Which league are you talking about? I would assume the Champions League but Mourinho won that in 2010 with Inter.
Zero fighting.

Im not saying I dont enjoy seeing them, I'm watching it right now. I just dont enjoy as much. Good teamfights still get the adrenaline pumping, but at the end of the game I just wont care who won.

Not really trying to make this a race thing but my point was that the majority of people watching are most likely white and resent (even on a small level) asians teams smacking around their NA favorites. That isn't to say that KR teams can't have NA followings but there's a reason CLG EU have a rather large amount of NA fans compared to Blaze who have almost had the same exposure to NA fans
