This hasn't really been brought up in other threads and it's not as important as stuff like unit design and balance, but i personally find the new minimap design to be completely awful.

The semi transparent look means that it's much harder to spot things, especially small dots like drops. It is also very inconsistent, as clear backgrounds like the center of Coda are much worse than, say, the air space around Echo.

Is there anyone that actually prefers it this way, and if so, why?

You wanna know what's fucked up? Having a red-green colour blindness such as myself. Ohhh my effin lord the minimap is giving me such a headache, because I need to concentrate my eyes in an extremely heavy manner to be able to see shit through this transparent minimap. And to top things off, the colour blind mode actually makes it worse for me.

The new minimap needs to go, or at least give us the option to turn it back to old form. Roughly 10% of males in our species suffer from some sort of colour blindness. I would take a stretch here and say this also translates to ~10% of the SC II player-base.

iirc Blizzard stated in the official forums that the ‘new minimap’ is indeed a bug not a feature. Cannot find the source though…

I noticed that some of the mineral patches seem to be at half capacity... there sure are a lot of bugs.

I'm sure all of this will get sorted out.

It's a bug, and they do not know when they will fix it. It's kind of sad. They're supposed to be adverting this thing and don't even have motivation to fix such a fundamental problem @_@;;

yea i'm definitely on the side of considering this a very major problem with the game. minimap awareness is hard enough as it is and this definitely makes a noticeable negative difference.

I agree this is a big deal and they should fix it as soon as possible. I play on a laptop and the minimap is pretty much only usefull for seeing the terrain, because i can't even see my own units on the minimap without concentrating really hard.

They should ofc fix it, but I think the beta is mainly to iron out bugs (such as this one) and balance game play, rather than advertisement. So while we should highlight this kind of things, I don't see the reason to be all up in arms and sad/angry/etc.

Yeah the new minimap is awful. Things are different colors but without any rhyme or reason.

While we're on the topic of the minimap... does anyone else think that a Warp Prism and Medivac should be the same size? Currently the Warp Prism is 4x larger....
