Good highlight reel of Arcsecond imo (I never thought TL could make worlds vs IMT/C9 but now they probably won't beat NV even)

And that the team imploded like this points to big failures by players and coaching staff alike. Overall Dardoch's behavior looks most terrible.

We'll see what they doing next year. No way they were winning the gauntlet so makes sense to sell him now. I just wonder if TL.LoL as a whole has the wrong "culture". TSM and to an extent CLG very much know how and what it takes to win but TL.LoL has never managed actually achieve anything. Wonder if it's a case of when things start looking up that little demon on the shoulder starts speaking up then everything falls apart again.

I'm not so sure. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that Loco provokes quite a bit of negative response from many of his players. He didn't seem like a popular person as TSM's coach and now TL has fallen from grace after making him into their coach too. Maybe Dardoch is being immature, but we know for a fact that Loco has his childish moments too.

If anything, it's questionable how fast Arc can pick up Jungle as a role. But personality-wise, I imagine it's an improvement not to have a teammate that gets triggered so easily.

They tried that with Piglet but that was always a doomed project from the start as Piglet just isn't that kind of player. Even Aphro was the king of choking for years.

I think there is more of an issue with how the rosters have been built and managed. with the rosters he had to work with I think the results he got were fine. going above that would be zikz. One thing bothers me about the whole TL debate. Late Spring split, everyone was saying TL had the players to be a top 3, top 2 team. Then early into the Summer split, Fabbbyyy takes over the starting ADC position from Piglet, and TL actually starts looking like that top 3 team, even in the vastly more competitive scene that the NA LCS had become. Since then, not only did TL's results disappoint, they also switched out both their jungler and their ADC (again). At this point, Lourlo and Matt could be considered part of TL's seasoned veterans and leaders, despite having joined the team only early this year (Matt wasn't even part of the starting roster at the start of Spring; TL was still fielding Smoothie as Support and IWD as their jungler). So my question is: Does TL have the players to be a top 3, top 2 team? Did they have them at one point? Because the player churn is real in this team, I think they're worse than CLG in their dark ages in that sense.

I'd say it's safe to say that they had the talent, just not the team dynamic to make it work, until Piglet checked out.

The problem with Piglet is that he tends to be farming at completely inappropriate times and his team just gets wiped out 4v5. There's also this weird lack of trust that probably has its basis in a thought process like so: "I'm the best player on the team. Therefore, I have to stay alive at all costs or we just lose." While the first statement was probably true, I also think it created really weird situations where his team would get spanked when they shouldn't have. Also his team getting destroyed 4v5 also further reinforces his idea that he's the best player on the team. Fenix is thoroughly mediocre. Maybe not the worst Korean to grace the NA LCS, but certainly the one that has been around the longest without ever really doing much with it. They really need to find a better mid, although I suppose it might be a finding the talent issue in this case. I think Matt is pretty good given his relative inexperience, but Piglet had Xpecial and they torched that bridge pretty quickly. I have mixed feelings on whether or not Dardoch is an upgrade on IWD. On an individual skill level maybe, but I feel like IWD brought a lot more to the table overall. I'd take Quas over Lourlo, probably.

LCS is unprecedented. It's the first ever esport that pays salaries instead of prizes. And the price we pay for that is absolute control, but let's be honest, absolute control has done a fuckload of amazing things for LCS. It's done some terrible things too, and you and I talk about various things that Riot should be doing instead, but when you start your discussion with It's not quite unprecedented; Broodwar had its own team league which paid salaries to all players. In that case, KESPA formed with no affiliation to Blizzard to provide the same services that Riot provides here. The circumstances of that time were different; e-sports wasn't nearly what it is now, and Blizzard had no legitimate interest the Broodwar scene (until they decided they wanted to kill it so that they could push SC2). KESPA effectively could alter the balance of the game through map design (map elements which were known to give an advantage to race X). A given season of BW would go from October - June and probably rotated maps 3 or 4 times; pretty similar to the number of game altering patches per season from Riot. Look, maybe you are just too pure for this fallen esports world. You believe in 2001 Brood War, a game that apparently never had glitches, but also a game that had no decisions ever being made for casual players, because no decisions were being made at all. You want chess, or go, a game where nothing will ever change about them again. There you can find the nirvana of competitive integrity that you hold so true. Actually, Brood War had so many glitches that became "features" (due to no patching past 2001) that it is somewhat hilarious. The entire e-sport was based on pros knowing how to exploit some glitches- and the game was massively better because the glitches added a hidden skill to the game. Glitches in a game are unavoidable; games are incredibly complex things and exactly how a piece of code interacts with the whole cannot be known a priori. As for my .02 on the matter, someone has to have the monopoly on a competitive scene and this monopoly must include the ability to influence the balance of the game. If the game doesn't change, the viewership eventually will abandon it. Broodwar managed to remain popular (relative to its peers) from 2002-2011 because it frequently rotated maps which greatly affected gameplay.
