Yes, but people that only play a single role that is in high demand like the solo lanes as essentially stuck with double solo and wait forever in line or solo/not solo and get not solo more often than not.

If you queue for roles you want, you will get a role you want! If you queue for roles you don't want, you will probably be sad ![]()

Until they fix it the best way to play is preferred role/mid Unless massive backlash I doubt they'll want to fix it, since it's a flaw that is very easy to anticipate and they've had months for this and kept pushing it through without announcing any changes since then. Also note that since their goal is to make people bring their friends to the game/play with them, the egregious flaws of the system disappear because you can basically lock your roles anyway in a party (unless you've only got one person with support secondary I guess) and these players never pick up on that. It's not a big deal for them because their goal for the game happens to "resolve" one of their system's main flaws. They don't really have an incentive to change it as long as they don't fuck up their marketing/retention strategy. On January 27 2016 03:21 Requizen wrote: The only people the system doesn't really work for is people who are set on only playing the one role with reluctance to do others. I fill. Even if I ended up playing a lot of Maokai (because whenever Rek'Sai, Lee, Elise, Rengar, etc. do well suddenly lots of people actually want to jungle, and when top's full of tanks it isn't as sought out), I played whatever my team needed, even AD (I played 2 games over the season). But the current system says "You have to choose two roles for each game, before actually entering champ select and communicating with your teammates like you used to, and you're also going to be playing a lot more support/jungle than top/mid, unless you take the risk to end up with your worst role by far." I wouldn't say the system works for me at all. I'll grow tired of always having the same stuff, I'll be annoyed that I can't actually keep my options open (including for the team, y'know, actual cooperation like they want to promote), and if I want to switch it up a bit with a solo lane it'll be a 10 minutes queue.I've known this (well, except for the super long queue part, I'll admit) ever since they announced their plans months ago, but their communications regarding my case has been "collateral damage, screw you buddy, get onto the altar" all along. It's not like I'm trying hard to point out what's wrong with the system: it's in there since the beginning and I'm just regurgitating what was already obvious then. ![]() On January 27 2016 03:34 Gahlo wrote: Yes, but people that only play a single role that is in high demand like the solo lanes as essentially stuck with double solo and wait forever in line or solo/not solo and get not solo more often than not. Or people who enjoy playing more than two roles without wanting to play all 5. Even someone willing to play all 5 will basically have to queue mid/top if they're tired of the others and eat a 10 minutes queue, so it isn't exactly ideal for them. (Unless, again, premades. Recurring pattern.)

riot needs to tweak their matching algorithm so you have better chances of getting primary/secondary depending on the combo (ex. you pick top/jungle you still have a solid chance of getting top), that should solve most of the problem

From what I understand, the initial announcement was that if you play ranked before new SoloQ is introduced, then your inital rank in SoloQ will be same as your dynamic queue rank at the moment that soloq gets activated (or maybe after your very first soloq game, and only then they will be split in two). No idea if they decided to change it.

Even in lane, where you're supposed to get more "specialists" now, I didn't feel any difference from last season.

- They were doing their thing at botlane, mostly complaining at my duo partner (jungler), as their lane slowly snowballed out of control. - We played our own game. I had fun derping with nunu top, while my partner had a rather weak game, so we kept laughing at it, and seeing how the other duo were calling him out (in our language, they did not know we understood it) we were not so keen on helping them. - Our midlaner kept owning on his own, but eventually got camped out of his life, and the poor soul tried to make the four of us aware of his constant 2v1 at midlane, but we (top-jungle) did not really care, while them (bot-bot) ignored him over their own frustration. That midlaner probably did not even realize he was playing all alone. The funniest bit is that he could have been reported for passive-agressive talk, but as I said, it hardly triggers anyone here. On the other hand, I had one very enjoyable game, and our other three team mates were pretty nice folks, playing decently, or even rather good, which says a lot considering it was around low gold MMR. I believe that the new champ select has the potential to improve the games qualities, not just the champion select process. And I also believe that the way to decrease toxicity should be handled this way, aka eliminating as many frustrating points from the game as possible, instead of turning the game into some TRIGGER WARNING area, where you are threatened with punishment if you don't act like some pretentious angel. You know whom the latter caters to? The likes of dull people who threatened our Garen with ban throughout the entire game. And for what? Playing Garen. Yeah, ridiculous, and he obviously won't get anything, but these delusional people feel that they are in charge, because Lyte and co. sweating way too much to make LoL a safe place. Anyway, the 4v1 is still the stupidest idea I've ever heard, I can never settle on that one, but hopefully the solo queue will make it so I won't ever have to risk it being the odd man out in such a situation. Sadly, I feel that the new champion select will carry the Casual Queue on its back, because many people will think these two are the same, and attribute the joy of finally being able to play just where they want to with the new system, thus when the solo queue will start (with 0 hype of course, maybe they'll even delay it with some bs excuse), people will be less interested. I mean, people who care about individual performance and a meaningful ladder, will still try to play with the solo queue, but it needs fodder people, and there might not be enough. So yeah, overall, I think the new champ select, with some tweaks, of course, can be so good, that only pro players choice between the two ranked queues can help out the solo side. Bummer! ![]() Edit: OH, and please, make that preferred champion selection BEFORE the champion select start. Like, select them before you queue up and make the client remember it. It is soooooooooooooo ridiculous waiting almost a minute to pick something (or nothing at all...) just for the sake of it. There's no reason not to do before we queue up. Edit 2: Ah, the statistics, in case you are interested. - I went in as top/mid 6 times and got mid once, and went in with fill once and got support. Completely forgot my partner's setup, because he alternated between support/jungler and fill. Edit 3: "Dynamic queue i pretty fucking bad" - based Gosu with Trick agreeing!! Yay, he said he's excited for the coming solo q. There's still hope! I also trust in our Korean fellows. I'd be pretty disappointed in them if they would settle for DQ.

And of course, I was on the receiving end many times. I had some horrible troll experiences I already mentioned, but most of the time, I just played in a haunted game. Maybe some of them typed "gj" in occasionally. Maybe. I did not even try to argue with them, because it's still better when 4 people instantly follows a call (even if I mysel only know what the actual call was once it is set in motion, like "oh, I guess we are doing Baron now, k."), even if it's bad, then my trying to convince a hive mind. In the end, the true lone wolf experience comes from playing dynamic q and getting matched with a 4 man premade, and that is just not right. On January 27 2016 15:46 Slusher wrote: they should introduce Solo ladder with a hard mmr reset for that q specifically imo. It would be kinda dumb for the first couple weeks but I think in the intended spirit of that ladder, it makes sense. I think everyone but gold players would be fine with that. Not sure how necessary it is though.
