This is just a proof-of-concept but I'll appreciate some feedback ![]() I'll contain it in the video/images thread or make a separate one if I actually end up making more of these but wanted to get some attention for now :p I don't think the first one deserves to be there since it was a bug that split the two of them.

This new menu for ranked is ridiculous. It feels like they actively went out to try and make the most clunky interface with the least information visible on the screen possible, and then threw effects and animations on top to make it last 3 times as long as the previous champ select.

Pretty much sums up most of Riot's ideas tbh.

Also, apparently you can pick free champions no again. Wow, Riot went out of their way to make it CasualQueue. Will see if I can actually lock in my first ever ranked Swain top on my smurf. edit: holy shit, I could... sooo stupid.

I mean, you could pick free champions in ranked for a pretty long time when they removed it. But who gives a shit. You pick whatever you feel like winning with. It's actually pretty convenient for smurfs.

Yes, you could, back in S2, and it was one of the things plagued ranked play, among with the afk opt-ins and afk gamestarts and afk random picks. It's like bringing back communism in 2016. Ridiculous that they are trying to sell a competitive experience and bring back one of the archaic, stupid feature which they smartly erased like 3 years ago. Yes, it's good for smurfs, and the pros list ends here. "Guys, I'm just trying this out!!" Oh, the nightmares still haunt me... edit: all right, 4 mins into the game I want to kill myself. what is this champ... edit 2: nvm, 2-0, literally the best champion I ever played with

Dynamic queue giving you a great experience as intended, boys. o/ Since I can't go "fill" because my AD is that below my other roles, does that mean either I choose top/mid and get long queue times, or I effectively choose jungle/support and get shorter queue times? About picking free champs, it's a bug and Riot know about it. Can't remember if they gave an ETA for a fix (eg. server-side or waiting for next patch or hotfix). And the interface is bad: they managed to make it harder to see which champions were banned at a glance (despite all 6 being close together and not in two corners), and the grid for selecting your champion has bigger portraits and padding between each of them so there's only around half the usual number of champions displayed. The search box isn't more accessible but it isn't worse either, at least. Meanwhile, the chat box is tinier than before, with them saying promoting communication was an intended goal of the new champ select. That's... uh. What is that logic?

As for long queues, I have to say, it's still not a step back compared to the old queue, if the long wait is because you picked top/mid. Waiting for let's say 5 mins can indeed be annoying, but keep in mind, you are signed up for the hottest roles in the game, so it is expected to have a drawback. In the old champ select, the drawback was that you had to fight with at least 2 other mid or top mains in every queue for your role, and in the new one, it is time. I guess it's relative which one made you waste more time.

And even if it's a little more clunky, I'd rather have that than fighting and bickering over roles and call/pick order. The interface will get updated over time (I have no doubt about this), but the more people get used to actually getting their role and getting more of a say in bans, the better it will be.

Picking jungle or support as secondary will just get you that role the majority of the time. At least based on my experience so far. Not sure where adc is in all of this. Probably somewhere between top/mid and supp/jung I have no interest in queuing for mid, but without doing so I won't get to play top.

I guess I miss the one aspect of the old champion select when we could help each other out. In plat and diamond it wasn't THAT rare that people helped one another out when he or she was stuck with either a position he/she was uncomfortable with, or a possible nightmare lane opponent. Like, if I got my desired role 7 times in a row, it wasn't really all that hard for me to take a bullet for someone, giving him that role. But hey, it's not fleshed out yet, so anything can happen.

I might just be used to this sort of queue, coming from WoW. Anyone who plays knows about Dungeon Finder - you queue for Damage, you wait for a half hour, you queue for Tank, 10 minutes tops, you queue as Healer and get an instant pop. It is something of a popularity contest, and you either take the longer queue time or take a less popular role, and I think that's normal. I still think it's better than everyone getting in and saying "Top/Mid pref, can't play Support/Jungle".
