So does it actually matters what is my mmr relatively to the enemies mmr, if I have normal for my rank mmr will I receive more or less depending on what I play against? I mean, league has enough players that in 99% of cases, you'll be matched vs people with mmr's very close to your own. Unless you get to like masters, where the mmr gaps are bigger, it doesn't matter much. You can basically assume that you're always playing vs people your own mmr (unless you're duoing,) so if your rank is lower then your mmr, you gain more, and if it's higher then your mmr you gain less.
At the end of the day lp is a pretty worthless metric in the short term. You can lose it in ways that have zero influence on your mmr (dodging, or being 5 points from promos and winning a 20 point game,) and you can lose games without it having any effect on your lp (losing games in promos or at 0lp) so you just kind of need to accept that it's only ever going to be a vague guideline :p

i thought you lost lp in promos for losses? I've definitely been dumped back to the 50-60 range after losing 2 straight promo games. If you get demoted it's 75lp in the division below though.

When you're in a division lower than Gold 1, if you lose a promotional series, the next time you enter your series, you'll start with at least one win. Welp, that might help some people >.<

There's no real difference between going 3-0 or 3-1 or 3-2 in a promo with regards to your lp, but there's a big difference with regards to mmr.

I think promos could be removed and just let people play with lp to 100 but that's been discussed to death already

yay ryze is back how fun and exciting, at least in korea they perma ban him wonder how long till other regions catch up hes ban worthy

it's funny cause during worlds I was like.I've never seen Faker do so well on a champion and not have it in all of my games.
this week: oh.....

Sometimes I forget how much Damage Garen does...
Then I get R'd for 1900 true damage. Just silly.
|
Yep. Fuck that champ.
I got the chance to actually play him in an Aram yesterday. Jesus christ, press the q, press the e, press the w and the r, and you've just mastered Garen.
|
Its not even that I hate the champion, mostly just the whole Villain thing.
What a stupid mechanic.
In general I think Garen is designed weird. Basically a gimmicky pub stomper. Does anyone actually like the Villain mechanic? I feel like Garen would be better served by having some of that power moved into his normal kit. He feels like he was designed for players who feed to still be useful no matter how hard they feed. "oh? you're behind? We'll just let you do ridiculously high damage to the enemy carry and build only tank items."
I dont even think he is strong. I just think I would enjoy the game more if I didn't have to worry about playing a teamfight well because then the Garen can poop on me a minute later.

Is there anything that actually does well vs Ryze top? Considering picking up Ryze again.
|
Lux top actually beats Ryze top pretty hard.
Not that I'd recommend picking Lux top, but if I pick Lux mid and my top gets countered with a Ryze top I'll swap lanes comfortably and have a good success record doing so.
|
Irelia snowballs hard on him but she may need help for the first kill. Ryze's level 1 is pretty ridiculous, although not as much as pre-rework. I also wonder how it goes taking E at level 1 then just casting it on the enemy guy as soon as he steps in his wave. Used to do 200 + 1.2 AP + 8% mana damage pre-reductions, they nerfed it to 150 + 0.8 AP + 8% mana.
|
Brand. Oh, I'm snared? Well you can't hurt me if you're stunned for 2 seconds. Oh, and I just EQW'd you in the face and walked away. Rylai's + Liandry's + Abyssal, the fucker can't touch you at all.

Junglers.
Anyone that can snowball on him can also give him fits if (when?) he makes some mistakes. That being said, if Ryze plays well, you kind of just lose.
I dunno, he is a weird champion. I think the best bet is picking a snowballer (Aatrox, Fizz, J4, Irelia, Panth) and hope to sweet baby jesus your jungler loves you (and winning). Cuz otherwise he just bullies you in lane, then proceeds to be an absolute monster. LOL.
Other option is to pick a top lane mage. Lux, Xerath, Ziggs, Cass... those kinda champions. Weird on team comps though, and is again real snowball-y as most of these champs and Ryze are so vulnerable to Junglers Top. Lots of these mages die to LeeSin ganks mid, let alone a Lee Sin gank top.
|
you can kill him with Fizz even w/o the jungler if you are mid (flash + ignite) but if you cant get your team to end he's one of the better mages at dealing with Fizz later in the game.
|
Yeah, most of those champions can kill him 1v1, its just a matter of ensuring it.
Also depends on whether the Ryze saves his W or not. Lots of them hard derp and use it to last hit or initiate sometimes cuz they bad. At least in mid to low plat, but I feel like if they saved it it would be much harder to all in them, and suddenly you can't really zone or snowball.
|
lvl1 w is so short as long as you don't expend both Q and E to get to him you can use the latter after it's over. once he has lvl13 + roa if you don't 1 shot him your dead. (not literally but it's a concern)
also because of the nerf to Q back during the assassin nerf patch, the animation needs to hit to do damage, so if he can deny you one of your spells if you aren't careful. It's better for him(I think) to execute his combo than to save it so you can see it coming.
I've been trying to pick up Ryze but the way his (old) passive only goes into effect during the new one just feels weird and causes me to mess up a lot, I'm still not sure what the optimal spell to enter passive state is. It just makes me appreciate faker that much more, how he always seems to have passive primed and ready when he needs it.
That play where he solos Kuro, then TPs mid and flashes over the wraith wall to kill Pray actually blows my mind that he found time to have his passive charged when he got to the 2nd fight. Maybe if I watch it again it's w/e but the way I remember it based on my play now it's pretty sick.
|
Yeah, I could see that. I think a good Ryze would go QWEWWR, R>W>Q>E though. No reason not to. Might hurt his all in, but he has no reason to all in you unless his jungler their anyway.. just surviving he wins the game for free.
Could be wrong, dont know that particular match-up well.
Also, Riot really needs to look into their pricing schemes... It is cheaper for me to buy all three of the Slayer Skins and the Icon separately than it is for the bundle by 75 RP. LOL. Or maybe they don't, and its like in my Wife's Magazines where it is like "$3/month, or $35/year, or BEST DEAL: 150$ for 3 years!".
