Sightstone is good for champions like lee sin, but those champions are also usually terrible in general impact. On a support you're better off just using pinks and an upgraded ward trinket, and have your carry use his trinket as well. Sightstone takes up 800g and an inventory slot and is usually purchased early in the game. In bot lane fights, 800g in real items decides who wins, especially early game and level 6. If you have a sightstone, expect to lose unless your opponent was stupid enough to buy one too. @Scip, my old account was G0atsebusters (if you rummage through my post history you'll find out my old elo and other stuff). However, due to the questionable dealings I've done in the past in terms of boosting and whatnot, I'd prefer not to share my current account name for obvious reasons.

Even if you don't want to shell out 400g for wards that quickly end up paying for itself early, why wouldn't you get Sightstone the first few levels...? And if you're taking ugpraded ward trinket on support, who's carrying the sweepers?

I'd say Silver 2 and above, though, his argument falls apart. So perhaps he's just a salty low-elo player?

And if you're taking ugpraded ward trinket on support, who's carrying the sweepers? Do people buy ruby crystals for the sake of having a ruby crystal, especially on support champions that don't really utilize health? When you buy the sightstone, you prevent the ruby crystal from actually being turned into something useful and so to buy your big support item (ie locket) you have to buy yet another ruby crystal. Idk if this makes sense, but stacking ruby crystals isn't how you win bot lane. Bonus points when you have to sell the sightstone because it isn't a real item. If you really need wards for whatever reason, pay 75g as you go instead of 400 up front on a deadend item. Also, you can use pink wards in lieu of sweepers. It's not like you need many pinks, you just clear the important wards. Remember this is solo q, you don't get bonus points for lighting up the whole map or denying the opponent from doing so. Jungler or support can take sweeper late game and the other can just use a ward trinket. And yeah, back in the day I played with the pros in terms of being high diamond (before masters was a thing). I still play with the pros, and you might even see me on stream, but with a different account.

I get that I sound like a retarded bronze player, but sometimes some stuff that just sounds retarded actually works. It's like back when I did jungle nasus and people called it stupid and that you would never get enough farm, but eventually people picked up on it. You probably can see it on the nasus champ thread if it still exists. I've heard people say my play style is terrible and I could be challenger if I actually bought wards, but when I buy more than the bare minimum for wards, it just feels like wasted gold that could have been used for pots or other items that help you kill other champions.

The real problem is buying sightstone; that item is the biggest noob trap since madred's bloodrazor. Look at the stats and the item win rate and tell me if its worth it (hint: it's not). And I'm not telling people not to buy wards, I'm telling them to not buy more than upgrading the trinket and pink wards as needed. Honestly, if you know what you are doing, the trinket will suffice for general vision needs. And to reiterate, this is for solo q, pro games are a whole different animal. While I will agree that post 9 having upgraded trinket is sufficient because you can have 3 wards on the map as long as you use it on cooldown, before 9 I think not buying wards is just plain dumb. Maybe if YOU know what you are doing and are confident in not getting ganked then sure it can be fine - but this is a team game. I have found that warding not only helps me stay safe but more importantly it helps the 4 other jabronis on my team not die. If you bought wards pre9 it would help: 1) Find people in your jungle so your team can more easily collapse 2) Find people in THEIR jungle so your team can more easily collapse 3) Warding raptors, river entrances, red buffs, blue buffs, etc. can help YOUR teammates not die. This is a team game and while warding certainly has many advantages for me getting fed, it more importantly helps prevent my idiot team from not throwing while I try to carry the game with the powers of the moon.

every time you buy a ward it conveys certain advantages for the gold loss, depending on the game it may or may not pay off but unless you're planning to play safe 100% of the time you don't have a ward up you are at risk of getting killed unless you are planning your escape from a gank there are people who overspend and overrate ward coverage and people who underspend but the vast majority of people think wards are pretty good but are lazy and dont want to spend the gold themselves. also very few take the time to think about when and where they should place wards nearly all of the time in lane its better to buy a ward since if the jungler comes to your lane at any time its pretty guaranteed you're losing at least 4 creeps

Problem is you can have only 1 pink ward and having a 60 sec cd on your ward when the enemy just clears your initial ward when you are trying to get vision doesn't work.Even in solo most teams have 2 or more red trinkets. If everyone on the team was warding it would maybe work but otherwise definitely not.The whole point of support champions is to be strong without items so they can actually get the sighstone.

You don't need much more than the trinket ward and maybe an odd ward to accomplish this. Warding key river/bush spots and you can deduce where people are. Of course if your teammates are bad, they'll still die with or without vision. "Hey that jarvan went out of vision, he's probably gone and wouldn't try coming back." This sound familiar?

I think people are exaggerating the problem though, I don't like the change much but it seems to me there's the same amount of good junglers as there have always been. It would be cool if they kept the sidegrade cost but let you sidegrade after you upgraded into something. Also is there really a discussion about not getting sightstone in favour of picking up a single ward here or there or using trinket? The main advantage sightstone gives you is you can spam cover an area quickly to help take objectives.
