Hi nice to meet you. First of all, I don't recognize you but that's okay we are very welcoming and most likely I just don't remember you(it's okay I'm terrible with names) Having said that, I can't suggest nor agree with putting 1300$ on a credit card in hopes you'll turn into some big name. As has been the case for over a decade this thing we are doing is not really a money maker. Do it because you enjoy it and with the ability to continue to do so without financial support. That's just a plan for disaster as no one can say if you'll be worthwhile to watch in the first place let alone have an audience of the size to support even a meager living.
I'm not trying to rain on your dreams and hopes but you do need to be realistic and understand it's a thing of passion and love for entertaining others so make sure you don't get in over your head following said dream.
Lastly the key to viewership is as always being on at roughly the same time on the same days for a long period of time. Set a schedule and follow it. As a ravid twitch viewer if I know when someone is going to stream and I like what they are doing I'll try to make time. However I'm not going to try and catch every time someone decides they feel like streaming.
Be polite, be yourself and if you can't be good at the game you play at least entertain the people watching. I did some old sc2 beta streaming(I'm sure if someone looked you might even find it) and I was just some crappy player but people did watch. Mostly because it was beta and I was someone who realized he'd never be super pro awesome but could at least entertain and interact.(have a way to read chat without stopping your gaming) Even if you are in an empty room just talk, make a few jokes and don't worry about viewers. Consider it practice for interacting with large chats.
Let's see, don't advertise yourself in games unless it's brought up(and even then it's not a good idea in most cases) and you'll want to look into DDOS protection because sooner or later someones going to ddos you because you did something they don't like(most likely someone in chat you banned)
Be aware of the stream delay. When ending a stream give it a minute say your closing statements before mistakenly cutting yourself off.
That's all I can really think of for right now I mean besides partnering but that's something to consider only after you have a sizable viewerbase(relative to the game you are streaming) for a good amount of time.
Good luck, and remember do it because you love it.
+ Show Spoiler +The frell? How did I get here, this isn't off topic..

Already seen his name multiple times, he isn't exactly new.
And man that Riot thread on Cass. "We get it, we missed the mark on poison mage", you mean what people have been saying since the day her numbers were released (in another form, they didn't directly complain about "poison mage" but how Q was obviously gutted) and you replied to with "we want to move away from this theme because we already have poison champions" and it didn't work out at all? Geez, who'd have thought. And what a surprise to see this statement after Skarner, Trundle, Karma received approximately the same when it didn't pan out. Totes shows that they take things into account and learn from their mistakes.

I find Hexakill on TT very fun. I consider it a success. I'm not bored with it yet, which is something I can't say about other modes.

Anyone have any suggestions, tips, ideas ect, ect. Play dark souls
But srsly look into stuff to make your stream look good: apps, tickers, layouts, etc People will be more likely to stick around for eye-catching type stuff.

Who cares about kat in that mode. AP Janna is the really imbalanced one.

Anyone have any suggestions, tips, ideas ect, ect. when building your core fanbase, interact with chat when you can talk about what you are doing and why, even if you are wrong, as long you go woops im a liar that was bad, or something like that. mention peoples twitch names in your stream. if Fungussniffer420 says hi in chat, tell fungussniffer whats up. try to stream in the sweet spot of 2-8 PM EST while building a fanbase. you'll get people at home from college on the west coast, east coast people, and west europe. The main goal of an early stream is to get people to stay. new people will stumble upon you all the time, but gettingthe first 3-4 people engaged in chat and talking will make your stream more friendly to every additional person past that.
when i streamed SC2 most of my fanbase was in europe. it surprised me, but i was able to get it done that way. in general try not to raise your voice above joking tones when anything goes wrong. ragestreams do well, but are novelties, and you never want to end up a novelty.

Do people actually like those tickers and crazy screen-busying things? I think they make the streamer look cheesy/desperate as hell.

I think they make the streamer look cheesy/desperate as hell. it depends. people like: Face cam, unobtrusive overlays, transition screens, if you accept donations they want acknowledgement of you donating, if you are doing something special ( A-Z or something), putting that on the screen or in the title helps with identification at a glance). if your goal is to get some money, then putting up goals/donation names + amounts increases the amount of money you make pretty dramatically.

I do like people who have non-intrusive overlay stuff with useful info. Music ticker, donation messages, etch.
|
Haha people always asking for facecam when I stream. I suppose I understand why but from a personal perspective I'm a fairly private guy when it comes to the interwebs (at least I try to be) and it's a hard thing to get over. I don't give a second thought anymore when I see others facecamming because it's more common than not now (it wasn't in streaming early days) but I still find it weird to do it myself.
And yes, non intrusive is the key. I frigging hate dancing gifs on screen (good example was jiji's stream---couldn't watch it cause those damn hopping rainbow sheep just turned me right off)

The thing about music is I'm honestly afraid to stream my music now because of twitch's new copyright policies. I don't want my shit getting muted and I have no idea what will set it off, nor do I listen to random ambient public domain shit.

Only vods get muted afaik. Livestreaming has no censorship.

from twitch:How It Works: Scanning VODs Only
Audio Recognition will only be run against audio in VODs. We are not scanning live broadcasts and there is no automated takedown of live content.

Ah good to know, cause yeah I think I'm the only one who goes back and watches my highlights/vods
I should maybe find a music ticker just in case. Never bothered using one cause I didn't think people cared and I don't use Spotify or anything cause Canada. Is there one that runs off of players (eg iTunes for simplicity 's sake)?

I kinda made a makeshift one by doing a window capture on the Spotify info area, and then minimizing Spotify (it holds the window capture and doesn't see any of the windows overlaying the area).

I'd rather something slightly more elegant if I can find it, but I still don't know if I'm gonna bother.
Doubt I can really reach my peak in viewers for a third time anyway; it's so hard to be consistent.
Edit: ty px
