Also it's harder to see the brand of a suit on first glance like a watch unless the interview happens to be really into it.

If you're interviewing for a summer analyst position and you're wearing a 20k A Lange and Sohne or something it's gonna look pretty fucking weird lol. The risks either way are too high. Most people won't notice it, but no one is going to think better of you for wearing a certain watch, and sometimes when they do there's a chance it could go poorly. Yes. While I think it's good advice if you aren't sure, a nice watch accentuates an outfit and shows that you pay attention to time, which in business translates to paying attention to money. It's very professional to have a watch that's conservative, functional, and mildly stylish. As long as you know what you're doing and are already qualified, look good, and interview well, a good watch can put you over the top. If you aren't sure, though, don't wear one. I personally rock at interviews and (in my opinion) know how to dress appropriately. [edit] Here's my watch--though I am a doctoral psychology student right now and not a financial analyst. In my opinion nobody will hate on you for something like this unless you are applying for some fortune 500 company which I have no experience with. Just make sure it's in line with the rest of your outfit and doesn't stick out. It should look like you dressed well and totally forgot you were wearing it. + Show Spoiler +

The story about the watch is not really that interviewers don't hire applicants with watches; it's intended to send the message that you are entering a very status-conscious world. As GSElevator reminds us, don't buy drinks for your MD; you can't afford them and he's not impressed anyway. Yes pretty much. It's something that applies only to finance and has no bearing on any other industry.

I always thought the watch thing was kind of dumb considering it's the 21st century and everyone has a smartphone that is not only a watch, but also a calendar, newspaper, and so forth. Then again, I'm not finance. You couldn't pay me to do an IB internship, 80-100 hour week nothxbai.

Most companies would look at you funny in a suit. Although, I also am from Alberta, so who knows maybe I'm just crazy. Haha.

You're from Alberta, so isn't just a matter of being a person, and willing to work? Hell, they pay McDonald's employees like 15 an hour.
