Plus while your starting divisions may have been the same your MMR could have been wildly different.

idk man, just seems really off to me. Why would our mmr be that much different in the same division that i would be placed almost a whole tier below him?

Plat I terror clamping in effect maybe, his Elo was something like Diamond IV while your was legit Plat I (or even a bit lower), then he proceeds to win his first 4 as you lose your first 5, and baam, big discrepancy.
Lowest Elo was something like 1100, and I barely missed 1500 in s2 (peak 1492 or something silly like that), no idea what Plat III was in s3 (I didn't reach it because loss streak destroyed my Elo after I missed my promo, but before that I was match with Plat IIIs in Plat V).

Ok the soft reset is actually completely messed up lol. Plat 1 goes 4-6 gets plat 5. Saintvicious goes 4-6 and from diamond 1 to gold 1. The diamond 1 i played in my last placement match goes 5-5 and ends up gold 2. So does a plat 1 really have a higher mmr than saintvicious and another diamond 1 player?
it doesn't really matter much, since everyone will just climb out right away, but it is slightly annoying and highly amusing lol.

Personally I'd just wait for 2 weeks to a month. It seems that everyone's MMR got greatly reduced so even the top challenger players now have only plat MMR. There is no point in playing because youe MMR gain will be minimal.
