Riot will offer service for the japanese market in the first half of 2014.

Yeah, it has a particularly bad history with Japanese who grew up in America during the time of WWII. Generations ago my family was put into an internment camp in America just because they were Japanese. Now it's all fine and well because the two countries are happily allied but it's still a very sensitive term. Kinda like how you don't call people "negroes" because of American history, you should strive not to call people "Japs". It doesn't really bother me all that much if people don't know, but it can be used as a derogatory term and it does kinda make you want to punch people if they knowingly use it that way.

In other news, I'm STOKED to see a Japanese server coming up! Japanese players are going to be serious contenders in S4. I know a lot of challenger/diamonds that are playing on like 140+ ping who would dominate if they were given decent latency.

But I doubt Japanese players would be "serious" contenders for worlds for at least 2 more years. The infrastructure just isn't there yet.

I doubt LoL will get big enough for a strong competitive scene in Japan. Their PC games are geared toward more casual gaming like visual novels or RPGs.
Otherwise I'm looking forward to more fan art on Pixiv... ;D

People always highly overestimate the competitive site of korean gaming.
Most Koreans are hardcore casual. I think that LoL has quite a good chance in Japan if they did their homework. Japan is a highly specific country with a unique culture.

Indonesian servers are already a thing! They just had a pre-launch tournament and servers are coming up this month.

Lmao I actually found out back when WoW was released. A lot of people used to say "jap" as a form of "yep" in German and it was for some reason always being censored.
