In a lot of circumstances you can't really afford to wait for an opponent to get closer, as that often means they'll gap close to you before your ult hits them. It also has one of the smallest hitboxes in LoL.

there are very few champs that can threaten a gap close from almost 1100 range without flash, and many of the whiffs are in situations where the varus is in absolutely no danger of being engaged on. it's often just a matter of riding the razor's edge of range for the surprise factor (because people will immediately be on guard after lane phase once a varus is well within ult range) and missing. the small hitbox is certainly a factor too

I guess Bryan Cranston winning 3 Emmy's for Best Lead Actor in a row vs huge competition like House, Dexter, Mentalist and Mad Men should have been a sign for me that the series is worth it :D
Yeah, apparently the only reason he wasn't nominated was because they didn't send the paperwork in on time.

If you do not wish to run gp10 quints (which is viable in 9 out of 10 cases) you can choose health quints aswell. My standard support page nowadays is gp10 quints, armor marks, armor seals and flat mres glyphs

I run AD reds on my support page. Gotta land some auto harass!
(I don't have armor reds, IP costs are OP)

Yeah i sometimes run a page with ad reds instead of armor, if i feel like i can outtrade level 1 and just zone off for easy kills at 2-3-4.

Try AD reds+quints on Lulu and just laugh at how hard you truck them at lvl 1. MPen reds+quints on Leona is nice if you KNOW you can E them enough for the to pay off.
It depends on how you want to play etc. but nowadays i don't even run GP/10 quints anymore.

The biggest downside with AD quints, mpen quints or whatever, is that if the opposing bot-lane can handle it, and their support is running gp10 quints he will eventually get a lead as the game progresses, where your rune setup will stop scaling.

Diana is one of those champions that I really want to learn because I love her lore and design, but I kind of suck with her :\ Every time I see IronStylus post art of her I want to try her again but I end up feeding really hard because I pretty much suck at all in champions. Maybe I should just force myself to play her some more until I tank back to Silver 5.

the most important meta timing for a support is how early the first oracles can be bought after sightstone. the standard timing is ~15 minutes, in order to establish vision control for the second dragon. if philo stone is not bought early, sightstone + oracles is not a difficult goal even without any gold runes. therefore, unless getting an especially early oracles is strategically important in a particular game, it is better to use runes that afford stronger laning

It really depends on the matchup. On sona I get MS quints most of the time because I think her main usefulness is dealing tons of damage all the time and being annoying as fuck which you can't do if you get caught (grabbed, stunned, rooted etc.). On janna (which iam way worse at) I tend to get gp10 quints and even seals (with armor marks) because she is such a passive/reactive champ (I pick her only over sona if I want to be better at disengaging anyways.).
Just look at the matchup and take what fits your champ and your playstile. If you compare directly vs base stats you get the value in gold at around 15min. from then on the quints start to generate more money than they cost you initially.
So if you wouldnt make use of the stats quints qould give you then after 15min you can buy your base stats you lost when you didn't get them in your quints and after 30min you have another set of quints. If you would make use of better base stats then those time marks get delayed by a impossible to determine amount.

This makes so much sense, except it can't be a standard thing in solo queue. Sometimes 1st drake doesn't even happen before the 15 minute mark.

I know people sometimes run ad reds instead of Mp/hybrid on matchups vs Kassadin, but in the new Mid Lane school Rapidstar says he likes to run Atk Speed reds, so ad or atk sp?

All-in champions are learnt the hard way. All-in until you know how much you can handle before dying. Better have a zen mindset cuz of the bazillion games lost.

I mean, that's accurate. But hey now.
I just have an issue with going all in, and I think it's part of what's holding me back. I know I'm generally better or as good as my lane opponent (sometimes not, I get wrecked occasionally), but I never press that advantage and I just play safe, allowing them to stay in the game and be useful. I should probably just go ham all the time like I do when I play Yi or AP Teemo.

If we go even/win the lane phase, I can have full support items by 40ish min.

Stacking as much AD from runes/masteries as you can on Sona is always pretty sweet. As soon as the lane starts you power auto + Q and nuke an AD for like 70% just from that. I've been having so much fun with ward bitch nogold support meta, please don't ever change.
