Park "MidKing" Yong-woo, the Mid laner of Incredible Miracle, is the star of the 42nd episode of my 'Grilled' interview series.
Some of the topics discussed: - IM's position swaps and why Koreans are able to make position swaps with more success. - Whether MidKing is now, or will be, the best mid in Korea. - His experience of playing CLG.NA and CLG.EU in OGN Summer. - Thoughts on other mids: Froggen, SSONG, Ambition, RapidStar, Misaya and Ryu - LoL's position in Korea, relative to where BW was at its peak.
The entire 30m03s subtitled interview can be watched at Team Acer

I'm pretty sadfacey that you still aren't doing a written transcript. Just have no interest in watching a 30 minute interview.
|
your lose then, this guy's interviews are the best there are in the whole scene, and this one is no exeption
|
lol @ winning 9 out of 10 scrims vs CLG.NA
|
I agree, just put it on in the background while playing soloQ,

That's just such a terribad attitude. Thorin consistently does amazing interviews for our community but you can't be bothered to load up youtube in the background?
Just to get this out there but there won't be written transcripts for any Grilled interviews. If you can't load a video, then you are really missing out.

Can people actually listen to interviews during games?
I get considerably worse when even listening to generic kpop while playing.
|
Even if I don't have time to watch the whole video Thorin still lists the times for the questions so I can pick the ones I'm most interested in to match the time I have available.
That said I don't understand how people can multitask an interview with playing a game. Are you really going to listen to the interview when your lane is getting ganked? Background music is one thing but unless there's a lot of repetition in the interview I'm not sure how people can actually get anything out of one while playing a game... multi-tasking being disproven and all.

Pretty boring answers by MidKing tbh. Might also be somewhat related to the whole translation thing. Great that the verbal translations were cut out though.
|
You can't listen to this vid in the background unless you speak Kor + Eng because he responds in Korean =\.
|
I'm sure they're excellent videos, I just don't want to spend 30 minutes watching something when I could spend 5 minutes reading it. If the interview wasn't in Korean yeah I could listen to it in the background while I do something else, but that wouldn't really be the same either.
It doesn't take much time to write out a transcript of the interview, one hour tops, and you'd hit a wider audience. It especially doesn't take much time to write out a transcript when you already had to write out subtitled answers. There is little to no reason not to do it.

If I'm not mistaken in a lot of the reddit threads on these "grilled" interviews someone will type out the transcript in full. Maybe that's only for the episodes with really popular players though.

That's great. Why not post links to the reddit threads for the interviews then, so that I can read the transcripts.

I really like your series, so I hope you don't take this the wrong way. Criticism incoming.
The translation for this interview watered down Midking's answers into the most vague, generic comments possible without twisting his own words for it. Whoever did the translation is obviously not familiar with the League of Legends in general, or does not have the best handle on both languages. It's quite frustrating because the answers Midking gave could have led to more interesting questions, but whoever did the translation just shut down every single opportunity for the interviewer to delve into more interesting questions. Please ask whoever is responsible for this disappointing translating job to shape up, otherwise any interview with a Korean player will end-up being really mediocre compared with other episodes of this series.

I dunno, maybe because I was called terribad for mentioning that I don't really like watching a 30 minute interview and would rather read one.
It seems to me that if TL LoL is so gung ho on getting out there more and getting more people reading the forum that they wouldn't adopt the attitude of "Cause we're not Reddit." But I guess I'm wrong.
In any case, I really shouldn't have to defend my case so much for wanting to read something on an internet forum. Pretty silly.

This is going to be very problematic if that's the case. Hopefully Thorin and/or Acer can get a better translator otherwise all of Thorin's effort is for naught.

I called your attitude pretty terribad, it wasn't a personal attack. If you go back and read what you wrote, you basically said that if there wasn't a written transcript, you weren't interested. That's pretty much talking down on Thorin's work and it's not worth your time because he doesn't present his interviews in a format of your liking.
I've actually had a talk with Thorin before about the written transcripts last month and he said that for the amount of time and effort each one of these Grilled episode takes, he doesn't want to spend an additional 2-3 hours transcribing a recording when people can just load it in the background and just listen to it. I understand where he's coming from and for people in the community to dismiss his work simply because he doesn't have a transcript is just inane.

Getting different interpreters for the actual events themselves is extremely unlikely to happen, if I want to do these kinds of interviews then I have to persuade the tournaments' stage interpreters to kindly donate time. Getting someone else to translate the player's answers online, after-the-fact, may be possible, and is something I am looking into.

Majority of his interviews don't have transcripts, those that do are exception. Check Chauster's one I think.
I understand Neo that you value Thorin's work highly. So do I; they are under appreciated. However, not being interested with no transcript is no attack on Thorin. If I see a video, I close it, no exceptions. I can't just listen to it while reading other stuff, e.g the TL NA LCS writeup.
The LCS writeups are fantastic stuff from TL writers, but if it ever shifts over to video format (instead of just video "play by plays"), I will close it too. (from a dedicated user who read every single word so far.)

Would have a version that has answers in English audio.

You're right of course. If it's not in a written format I'm not interested. It's not an attack on Thorin or his work, I'm sure they're great interviews, everybody says they are and I want to read them. It's more the fact that I have more things to do in a day than I have time to do them. I already only watch at best half of the LCS games, if I'm going to spend 30 minutes watching LoL content, it's going to be an LCS game, not an interview.
If the thought process is you don't need to write a transcript because people can listen to it while they do something else, then you need to have spoken English interpretation, not written subtitles. I do not speak Korean, so suggesting I do something that I can't actually do seems a little odd.
I would like to spend a few minutes going through a transcript. If you don't want to make one available, that's fine. Your time is valuable just like mine is, and I understand that. But you should accept that you are intentionally not making your content available to a wider audience, not say that people have bad attitudes for not accessing your content the way you want them to.
And by the way Neo, calling somebodies attitude terrible is a personal attack, no matter how you want to coat it.

Being the first post in the thread to say you're not going to watch it cause you don't want to IS a terrible attitude (no sugarcoating). It's great that you are busy and stuff, I don't really care, coming into the first page of a thread and pissing on this guy's hard work is not going to make you any friends. You can be polite, suggest adding a feature even tho it's nothing new it's okay. Why even post that you have no interest of watching it? it is so much free negativity i don't even know man.
