Think it makes sense. I remember dota used to work with a "stable version" and a "current version" so tournaments could be playing a version that was a few maps behind. LoL patches are generally a lot smaller and frequent so people I feel haven't really thought about the impact of them too much but with such a huge patch as S3 it's a valid concern.

Almost everybody sees these frequent patches as very negative for an e-sport but I think it also adds a new dimension to the competition. To stay on the top, teams also need to be able to be adapt and can't rely on a few very refined strategies.
I like that idea because compared to "traditional" sports that don't have changing rules, physical strength is not valuable in e-sports, so that could kinda make for it.
