I think one also has to note they said he got banned from Championship Series which I believe is Riots own series and not independent leagues/events? Which the situation be far less harsh if Riot didn't control the whole scene so he was merely banned from a league and not everything?

Equate him to say a Rasheed Wallace, someone known for talking shit all game long. Yes, he gets his fair share of suspensions because of his piss poor behavior on the court, but would you ever suspend him a year because he wanted to talk shit at refs and other players and yell "BALL DONT LIE" all game long? Can't say I agree with Riot at all on this one, even though I think it makes Dignitas a stronger team. You can't somehow make analogies like that since this has nothing to do with in a competitive game. If you want to do it your way it would be more akin to this Rasheed Wallace person playing basketball games with fans and shit talking them constantly/poor behaviour. There's a difference between talking his to your competition in a game and to others. That analogy doesn't work either, a pro basketball player isn't going to get suspended for kicking a bunch of random people's asses in a pick-up game and talking shit the entire time. If he was suspended for that exact thing it would be closer to this situation. Actually, NBA players get fined often for speaking unfavorable quotes to the public. If a player were to constantly be out in the public making the league look bad (trash talking pick up games), I wouldn't be surprised if they suspended the player for a long period either. Edit: Though I'm not saying what Riot did was right or fair. It does seem too harsh IMO.
I have never in my life heard of a player in the NBA get in trouble for shit talking during a pick up game.
This is ridiculous. It completely ruins IWD's career. Not because he acted unprofessionally in a competitive setting or in a public interview but during his solo queue games that he didn't even stream he acted like a dick. I don't care if he was an asshole in one thousand solo queue games it isn't grounds to not allow someone to play competitively.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dignitas rebels by pulling their LoL team altogether. Hell i'd reccomend that. discipline of pro players is up to the team, not the owners of the game.

It's a growing trend and it makes me so sad. Why is shit talking being discouraged in gaming? There's so much worse on the internet, but we're not allowed to swear or say anything that can be hurtful? Fuck that.

IWD is a toxic player, no doubt about that. But there are plenty of professional players on teams that also have a toxic attitude in solo queue. You can start with like the entirety of TD and like half of M5. Hell, M5 was even courteous enough to talk shit and tell the opposing team to shut the fuck up in a tournament game. Why are they still playing? You'd think they'd axe someone who talked shit in a professional setting before they looked at solo queue, right????
Very disappointing news to me. Although this gives Dignitas the chance to pick up someone who's actually good at jungling.

Even if people agree the severity of the punishment is justifiable, I just can't wrap my head around the idea of so many people supporting Riot for making this decision out of the blue. If they came out with an announcement "Anyone who receives a permaban is not allowed to compete in a Riot sanctioned tournament" I would be totally okay with that. But to have the announcement be the same as them making an example of someone seems really unprofessional on their part.

There's nothing in utility with 17 points worth getting over the damage you get from offensive. Sustain isn't so bad that you need biscuit, especially when getting blue buff and hp pots are cheap.

They picked up a lol team? I never heard of this.
And thinking now they should have probably issued a public warning to him before delivering a full year suspension. this is basicaly killing his carrer and even if its a statement ban its really overkill.

They issued him 8 warnings / temp bans before this, and his behavior was only getting worse. Like how stupid can u be, that u think that after 8 times u are banned, perm is not near?

I think it's a good step if the punishment was no where near as extreme. Docking pay(which Riot is giving too) and suspension for month/two seems far better option than killing his chance at league basically. Like it's pretty clear most pro gamers aren't really used to the environment they are in so it's real easy for their egos to get inflated fast. A small ego check would most likely have curbed 90% of the toxic behaviour.

If you've receive 8 (count them, EIGHT) warnings and bans previously, I don't think that constitutes "out of the blue."

I respectfully disagree. LoL differs from other sports by having a central organ for both amateur and competitive play (Riot), and they make the rules. The rules are that you adhere to the Summoner's Code at all times, not just in your competitive matches. In most sports you wouldn't be banned from competitive play for being an ass, but other sports are different in organization.
As far as this ruining his career, he should've thought about that after being warned about permbanning 8 times. Imo Riot has been fairly lenient, they dish out the perm bans way faster to non-pros.

I think 8 suspensions was enough of a warning. I mean, who seriously thinks that they'll still be OK to compete in LoL tournaments run by Riot when Riot has permanently banned their account?

HotshotGG, saintvicious, imaqtpie, TD and members of M5 as you've said, Reginald, Doublelift...
There are so many players who have made the competitive scene look worse than IWD. Which is why this punishment makes so little sense to me. So I can be a dick on a public stage and make the entire scene look bad but if I do it multiple times out of the public spotlight it's going to get me banned for a year?

It isn't basically killing his career. His career is over lol. No one is gonna pick him up a year from now and he won't really be able to practice for the next month or so while he levels a brand new account and gets it to high Elo again. Not to mention he probably had no plans for college because he was suppose to be getting a Riot salary within like a month.
Maybe Dignitas will keep him on as a sub even if he can't play? But that would basically be a handicap to the team just to do something nice.

The problem is that Riot shouldn't have full control over their scene. They control too much. They're the judge jury and executioner.
If this happened in StarCraft Blizzard could just ban a player from their server but that wouldn't ruin the player's competitive career. They could make a new account, play on a different server, or whatever.
