The Heroes of the Storm Super League is one of the Road to BlizzCon events for Korea organized by Blizzard Entertainment and OGN.
The tournament will be running August to October, and the winner will qualify to the Heroes of the Storm Wold Finals at BlizzCon 2015.
The Korean scene hasn't had as much of a spotlight here in the west, so today is a good time to see how the koreans play. This thread will be updated throughout the league and the idea is to comment about it here. This event is part of the Korean Road To BlizzCon.
Streams: www.twitch.tv/OGNGlobal http://www.azubu.tv/ognglobal Casters: Tasteless, Artosis, Moonglade, Wolf
Liquipedia groups and bracket:

Thanks for the thread!
I think the first thing now is to add the event to the calendar so that is shows on the side bar and people notice it!
I'd put the stream links in the thread in a more visible place so that nobody misses them.
GL HF every body

It is starting :D
Edit: Sorry for the double post. Submitted to the calendar.
|
ROFL Artosis with the "This game has a lot of comeback mechanics!!" xD IGN being shitted by everybody xD
Edit: triple post nobody watching?
Edit 2: The show match (SC vs WC+LoL stars) was actually very close and entertaining. It is sad this did not have more publicity and people watching

Who played in the showmatch?

Korean league never fails to produce great intros for its tournaments ^^
These picks are interesting and somewhat different from what we usually see in EU at least o.O
Edit: They also never fail to produce great looking attendances xD
|
Production is pretty high I must say, wondering why azubu stream is not featured on TL stream bar? The same thing with Twitch.
|
So... I haven't been following the Korean scene a whole lot (or better... barely at all, tbh. There aren't even that many Korean tournaments on Liquipedia :o) but MVP.Black is kinda the team to beat here and about as dominant in the scene as Teamliquid in Europe or Tempo Storm in NA, right?

nice crowd, hope the game goes huge, loving every game so far

Production seems a little iffy, at least for the English stream. But I shouldn't be surprised, this is OGN, not ESL :p.

How does the Korea server/ teams compare to America/ Europe?

Based on today alone, they follow their own meta but seem solid. Not sure if on par with top EU/NA teams yet. Then again what do I know o.O
|
Nothing to say about it, but a month ago MvP Black ? chewed through a few European Teams. It was at the time when everyone was shuffling teams in Europe though.
|
How's Heroes been picked up in Korea? Is it popular? Only reason I'm considering watching this casually because of former sc2 players. Which means, of course, I'm cheering for DK :D
|
Tuned in a little late, but caught most of it - we really need a central place for dates of Heroes tournaments 2-3 tank meta still seems strong in Korea, but besides that, it looks quite similar, no too outlandish picks. We see a trend towards 2 tanks in the western scenes as well, so...
It's hard to compare scenes without them actually playing against each other, but my first impression is that their level of play isn't above EU's, there were a few sloppy plays (e.g.: the Kael in second game didn't place his Flamestrikes very well). But as I said, that's probably a misperception and when EU plays vs KR in a live setting, they'll get stomped, at least that is what my SC2 experience has taught me

Acording to miwa, MVP black say's they practice around 14 hours a day, and I don't have any reasons to think they are lying. Everyone just talks about heroes in NA vs teams in europe. When they finally meet, I think a lot of people will be surprised.
I'm not sure about the second team, but one of the teams of the showmatch was: Kingdom, IntoTheRain, MC, JulyZerg and Ruby.

Yeah, Orange Caramel, who is like a sub group of After School.
Anyway, I wish this tournament got more attention.
What's insane is this venue at the beach, that's usually Finals-territory. Let alone Group stages of a tournament. Is it special because its the first day or are they seriously going to have it at the beach every step of the way?

I'm not sure about the second team, but one of the teams of the showmatch was: Kingdom, IntoTheRain, MC, JulyZerg and Ruby. We've only had one instance of Eastern teams facing Western ones, at IEM Shenzhen. China brought a couple of T2 teams and got bopped by MVP Black and VP, then Black took the Russians to school and that was that. Navi, TL, Fnatic, Tempo, C9, coL, none of those teams have ever had a noted tournament against a team from outside their region, so it's hard to tell how they'll do against eStar and DK when they meet at Blizzcon.
As for the OGN league, there are only 3 teams who have shown any reason to believe that they'll take it - Black, DK, and Snake.

MVP vs Joker was really fun, specially the 2nd game. MVP rekt Joker
edit: and the 3rd game too

So they opted for the 1pm no viewers schedule?
I remember when BW made that regretful decision...and still remember when they change it back to have EU on board and increase viewers again
Did anyone watch the games today? Were they any fun? Was there many people watching?

I didnt get to pay attention to them. The audience looked full, and I think it had 1k viewers or so. It got a shoutout on the offical heroes twitter.

Well if at least the studio was full that is good I guess
1k viewers was not good however.

This is going to be good: Team Snake vs. MVP Black. Snake already has a wild comp vs. something that's somewhat more standard:
Cursed Hollow
MVP Black: Johanna, Tyrael, Nazeebo, Valla, Uther Snake: Anub'Arak, Arthas, Zagara, Sgt. Hammer, Karazhim
How wild is that? No Jaina, no Kael..... that's the bruiser-warrior meta for you.

I don''t know if going Pyromaniac over Chain bomb is worth it. Definitely a misclick seeing that they really need those damage.

Yeah, the past month has just been full of those Kharazhim/Hammer comps, the last 3 OGNs I watched had them too! Same heroes, same patch for the last month+

Valiver was just referring to the 2/3 tank meta and obviously not the monk

The games are back on and as usual, they are like watching finely conducted orchestras battle against each other. If you enjoy watching Heroes you should really turn these on.

What I said wasn't sarcasm, it was pointing out the context of my post that apparently you and Valiver are too lazy to read, because my post obviously did point out the monk. I suppose I didn't explicitly say that the context of my post was in reference to the patch, and that was my mistake, apologies for that. I shouldn't have assumed someone wanting to discuss the OGN heroes on an online message board would have basic knowledge of the current meta (which had JUST changed, for the patch had JUST been introduced a few days before the match).
The intent of my original post was to point out that with the new patch, the Korean bruiser style had been combined with new strategies not seen before the patch, and it would be interesting to see the which comp came out on top: (double warrior + "standard picks") against the wild comp (hammer, kharazim, still double warrior). Before the patch, there would have been a Jaina or Kael. But since Kael's main strategy was shifted to be a close range damage dealer who has counterplea available against him, and since Jaina was nerfed, it seems these are obvious evolutions to a bruiser-heavy meta.
And then the posted response is "SOMETIMES THEY EVEN HAVE THREE WARRIORS!", which could have been interesting if it was intended to begin a discussion about the ramifications of the patch upon the korean bruiser meta we know and love.... but alas, it wasn't.

sCsC, Sniper(GSL winner) and Noblesse(IIRC Terran that was not so successful).

Thanks for this. I was just wondering where I could find these matches after the casters briefly mentioned it at the August NA open

So.... in Korea, Sonya is actually popular? o_O

On September 12 2015 17:52 Swisslink wrote: So.... in Korea, Sonya is actually popular? o_O If you haven't watched a lot of Korean HOTS, it depends from team to team but yeah some heroes are quite popular that aren't in other regions.
Sgt. Hammer is top pick/ban since the patch, Butcher is picked and banned from time to time, Sonya started to be picked since like 2 weeks ago afaik? I know that I haven't seen her before and suddenly she is in every match.
They are still playing these heavy bruiser lineups and I enjoy them quite a lot.

There was a time where she was experimented as a counter to Illidan during the golden days of Illidan & Double support, but hasn't been that popular for a while except for niche comps by MVP Black. But ever since last patch, Sonya has been really rising in popularity by the top level players.

DK out... first time watching Korean heroes. Some very strange composition working out today, and sick plays. Too bad the game is still miles behind certain other mobas in viewership, but after watching an 1hour long Dota 2 match, I will stick to Heroes of the Storm at least.
Hammer 1-0 Abbathur 2-1 Kerrigan 1-0 (destruction!)

As a guy who mains Butcher and plays him a lot and think that I'm quite solid with him, I really want to know the decisions behind some of the talents picks that KyoCha does on his Butcher.
He picked him in MVP vs. MRR game 5, and in MVP vs. Snake game 3, and in both games he had some really questionable talent choices.

Snake dominating DK in game 1. Hoping for a comeback for the old school sc2 boys

That was an awesome game 2, but Snake could have had that if they didn't try to commit to core so soon.

Yeah I honestly think Snake is the slightly better team. Their rotations look cleaner. How do map picks work? If they get to pick now I'd go for another 3 lane map

Snake is undoubtedly better, especially if Oreoman gets going. Seems like he's a bit off tonight...like how he walked into the middle of the fight with Zeratul and sat through the entire duration of a Psi Storm just now....
DK's shown a lot of improvement over the season though, really nice to see them playing against Snake this competitively.
EDIT: Oreoman is basically the Korean Zuna. EDIT: Yep, good ole TS-style throw. GG DK.
|
Really happy for DK. They truly did out play Snake today.
Personally I hate playing against and with Zera and Nova. They both just seem like gimmicky heroes.
That said, i think the Zera is so frequently banned out in the pro scene, that the Zera players really aren't nearly as sharp on him.
