This will pass, but it won't pass the class action lawsuit of thousands of people against the government who will not stand to be forced to purchase insurance or be jailed. I know I'll be canceling my health insurance as soon as this bill is signed into law just so I can join it.

I'm excited for a possible nullification and interposition revival. Go sovereign states!

revival?

nullification was DOA.

Nullification if you know your history is what the American Revolution was all about. After that it was what the American Civl War was all about. So reviving the nullification would mean testing the waters of the American revolution for the third time. It's been a while but it's not unprecedented on US soil, and it has succeeded before.

The US health care system hasn't really changed all that much really.

Every state is dependent on the federal government for survival right now. Even Montana needs federal $$$ now.

Except the money comes from tax payers which might actually live in Montana. The federal government has been loving the idea of issuing unfunded mandates.

What is this? Crying that the world is unfair? A post begging for sympathy? Justification for offloading some of your costs onto other individuals?

Anyway you look at it, you're buying into the "vote yourself money" mentality and no different from the kleptocrats that run the system. In fact, the kleptocrats thrive on that kind of mentality because they can throw bread crumbs to the masses and take the most of the pie.

If you want real compassion, if you want real morality, find it amongst your closest neighbors and friends. Politics isn't about "fairness" or "compassion" even if those ideas get invoked all the time. It's about dividing the spoils of war.

Who said I want compassion? Who said I am trying to be morally superior to the kleptocrats? I just want the people without all of the wealth and power to get their true value from a system that wrings them dry to build the wealth of a small minority, then discards them and tells them it's their own fault.

Whether it be fair or unfair, the reality is that for once in a long time, the trend of the wealthy few fleecing the majority has been reversed for a day.

So two wrongs make a right...

I don't think it'll console the young and healthy who are even more screwed now.

On Fox they said the vote was so close that times like this were how Pelosi was known to twist arms.

Just great. A tax hike in a recession, which not even good keynesians would support, and no real reform other than more bureaucracy...

People of America, behold your 'change.'

Small states by population like Alaska, Montana, etc. get way more federal money per capita from the government than they send back in the form of taxes.

No, there is no national health care plan. That was called the public option.

what? you mean it was on the table, and the "people" (ones who have jobs, and probably the richest of americans) said no.. wow.. how typical of snobs huh? fuckin greedy c***suckers

Both sides are to blame. The republicans were irresponsible by opposing any possible plan from the start. In response, instead of trying to break down that opposition and reaching compromise and because they had a super majority, the democrats said fuck it and figured they could push through legislation without regard for Rs. Conservative democrats delayed the issue and then Kennedy died and the super majority was lost because the Democratic party handled the ensuing election about as poorly as you possibly can. Now D leadership got hasty and is pushing through this half assed bill, hoping they can modify it later, while R leadership are still being little bitches and refusing to join the drafting process in a responsible way, because they'd rather try to hamstring Ds and win back seats in 2010/12

You'll probably get Financial Reform + more foreign policy changes until 2012. Immigration probably won't get touched until his second term, and the health care reforms like single payer and public option almost certainly won't be touched until this plan actually goes into effect in 2014, and most likely it'll be quite some time after that.
