North Korea's reclusive leader Kim Jong Il has pancreatic cancer, it has been reported.
Seoul's news channel network YTN television said Kim, 67, was diagnosed with the cancer around the time he was felled by a stroke last summer.
The report cited unidentified intelligence officials in South Korea and China.
Kim's health is a focus of intense media speculation due to concerns about instability and a power struggle if he were to die without naming a successor.
His third and youngest son, Kim Jong Un, has widely been reported as being groomed as heir, but the regime has made no announcement to the outside world.
The YTN report cited the officials as saying the disease was "threatening" Kim's life.
Pancreatic cancer is usually found in its final stage and, considering Kim's age, he is expected to live no more than five years, the report said.
It came after Kim made a rare public appearance last week, in an annual memorial for his late father and North Korea's founder, Kim Il Sung.
Television footage showed him markedly thinner and with less hair. It was only the second state event he had attended in person since the reported stroke.
He also limped slightly and the sides of his tight-lipped mouth looked imbalanced in what were believed to be the effects of a stroke. The images touched off speculation that he could have other health problems.
I hate that bastard as much as Bush, even if that monster dies and one of his sons takes over will anything even change? Will the labour/brainwashing/prison/execution camps still be running, will they still continue to live in isolation like they have the last 50 years and plan on nuking America wich they hate so much...din't they have nuclear test explosions or something some months ago. (It was on the radio) I don't care about politics but I have seen the documentaries and google, North-Korea is one fucked up place to live in.

Edit : Kim Jong Il hurry up and die.
It can change a lot once a new regime comes, as it has been shown again and again in old dynasties when an emporer dies (I think this is a good comparison). I see this in positive light and once the new leadership takes over North Korea may undergo reformation.

It's not that simple as him lifting a finger, though. While commoners might be brain-washed enough to follow him without questions, those with high political positions (such as his sub-coordinates) are most likely well-educated and knows what the fuck they are doing - and what they shouldn't do. At the end if Kim Jong Il wants to do something major it has to be passed to his sub-coordinates, and I doubt they will listen to a dying person.

While that is mostly true, you gotta realize back in the old ancients days in a system of monarchy, emperors and all where it is somewhat similar to North Korea's state atm, all the people, even his sub-coordinates, subjects and all alike were super loyal and would do anything and everything their leader would tell them to do even committing suicide. Who and what is to say that the case isn't similar here with Kim Jong il and his sub-coordinates?? If anything, I can see calling himself and everyone around him "Emperor".

I agree with your analogy of "Emperor", and I used that terminology as well. But you have to also understand this is not the ancient time anymore, where technology allows people to go everywhere very easily.
Think about it this way. Suppose you are a North Korea diplomat on foreign affairs. While you have probably been loyal to the regime, but due to your position you have to go out and see the world - South Korea, Japan, and China - and suddenly you realize you had lived your life in a crap-hole. How will you feel about the regime now? Surely, for those never gone outside of their villages, they may think North Korea is the best country in the world. But it is certain that many people who have exposures of the foreign world will think differently about the life they are having now and the life they could be having. Of couse they may not express such things openly unless absolutely needed, but I highly doubt everything will be followed through.
Great picture, my plan for these ruthless totalitarians from little countries with no military arm is waiting until they die. Lets see how this pans out...

They do have a huge army.
Correction: They have a huge paramilitary. There is a huge difference.

I doubt it's "para-", since it is government funded and the only military force (probably) in North Korea.
Are you thinking about conscription instead? I don't think they are the same.
I wonder if the invinceable one has a plan to rise his body to the sky when he croaks so he can try to keep the hearts and minds, It'd would be amuzing if I do say so myself. But really the north koreans are gonna get a wake up call real soon that they have been lied to by there so called god/leader. But hell what part of the population isnt lied to by there leaders. Hes just the most tyranical one left around really.
I'm pretty skeptical about this news. Whenever you see images of him moving, you only see him suffering from the aftereffects from stroke and diabetes. He's also moving around more this year than last year. Also, how many times has the media speculated on his health? I lost count a while ago.

A more proper analogy would probably be the USSR after Stalin; most power being in the hands of the people behind him in the party, with him being forced to abide to their decisions in order to stay in his position as the figurehead which legitimize the policies enforced by the government. Kim Jong-Il dying shouldn't really make a difference, unless his successor somehow manage to outmaneuver the old hawks in the government, but that is probably unlikely and the situation will most likely remain the same until the old guard have died off from old age.

well, i think we all guessed he had some sort of cancer or ailment, given the hush on his health over the last few months, and NK ramping up their nuclear activities
wonder how things will change for the people of NK. i doubt theyll be pulled out of their dictatorship, but maybe KJI's successor will be more benevolent. or not.
hoHO! I don't think theres anything wrong to wish 100% certified monsters to die. I hope he doesn't decide to 'have a last laugh' against SK/Japan/the US ....in his final days

Dude... all the North Koreans know that the propaganda is complete bullshit. I mean, honestly, they know far better than you just how shitty their lives are and they only accept the propaganda because they are forced to. Its oppression that's keeping them in line, not the lies. It pisses me off how you think the North Korean people, who are just as human and aware as you, are so blind and gullible.
And its not like Kim Jung Il's death is going to change anything in the status of North Korean propaganda. For instance, you do know that Kim Jung Sung is still the official President of North Korea, right? North Korea will just continue praising Kim Jung Sung and Kim Jung Il, only they'll start praising Kim Jung Un now too.

The death of Kim Jong Il is the end of the world, as it is the end to all progressive-minded and harmonious peoples whose goal it is to spread happiness and prosperity to all corners of the Earth even in the face of dastardly mentally retarded war-mongering bestial regressive capitalist murderers who spend 27 hours a day through the use of a bourgeoisie and imperialist time machine that runs on the sorrow and misery of honest hard working people and therefore with no one left to defy these dog raping jay walking intellectually devoid mongrel backwards minded oppressive hate-spewing capitalist imperialists the world can have no course but destruciton.

Lol your name is very fitting. There just as gullible as any other human, anyone can be tricked. Id just think itd be amuzing for him to pull some antics such as him rising to the heavens.... cause I dont believe anyone in there right mind could really take that seriously, but hey I guess thats why theres religion, keep the masses entertained and in fear of the unknown. If they do adore his son as a god, didnt you just prove your own statement that they are gullible?

Yeah my bad... dunno why I said Kim Jung Sung...

Let me reiterate: the North Korean government hails Kim Jung Il as a supreme leader, but the North Korean people do not. People can see injustice and falsehood when they see it, and with half of the country on the brink of starvation while government officials drive around in Mercedes, its definitely there. Have you ever talked to someone that used to live in the USSR or Communist China? If citizens do not at least pretend to agree with what it says, they will be persecuted. And in case you don't know, there have been several (don't know how many) North Koreans that have escaped from the country and testified to how horrible it was there.
Ok, sure you don't believe in religion, how impressive of you. Don't you think that there are people in North Korea as well that don't believe in Kim Jung Il as a god? See, it's not that hard to contemplate. Whether Kim Jung Il believes it or not matters little- he's batshit crazy. As for his son, once again, I said that the government hails the family, not the people.

Um, really? I'm normally all for anti-internet insensitivity, but seriously, you're going to defend Kim Jong Il?
i think the only good thing to come out of Kim Jong Il is that he is afraid of China, although he has been more of a loose cannon recently. that relationship is the only thing keeping that peninsula peaceful.
Once KJI dies, I'm not really sure how his sons are gonna deal with the shitstorm of a country they'll be left with... more than likely they're gonna continue ruling the north like they're father did...
Too bad it isn't contagious... It sounds like a wrong thing to say but maybe this would be the only shot north Koreans have @ freedom. But even if he and his sons died probably some general would try to keep the dictatorism.

Has to be a troll.
Specially being that hypocritical Yes everyone be nice to the poor old asshole dictator! But people who laugh at people who are sick on internet threads should certainly die immediately. Makes total sense.
If you're a psychotic asshole dictator who would rather risk the lives and well being of a country for the sake of one massive ego, people get to laugh at you if you get cancer. Specially if the whole western(ized) world views you as "the enemy". Thats the way it works...if sweet old ladies or actresses get cancer, we feel bad, but if douche bags get it...meh.

I heard the sanctions were finally starting to bite because they couldn't import the medical equipment needed to treat his cancer. That's why Steve Jobs is back on the job and Kim Jong Il is not.
