South Korea loves Starcraft. People here still play the decade old game online and matches are always played on TV. South Korea also has a broad selection of English training books that go from your basic workbook to well… Starcraft English! Yes, through the magic of Starcraft you can boost your English vocabulary. While the concept seems strange, Starcraft English is actually brilliant. It’s designed for hardcore fans who immediately know what a Zealot is regardless of the “difficulty” of the word or the language barrier. (Note: Starcraft was only released in English in Korea!)

Videogames and movies taught me english.

I dont think I remember a single thing from school, past present, present perfect? Present simple? No fucking clue what they are anymore lol.

Anyway this does seem like a pretty decent way to improve vocabularies I guess.

Haha, that's amazing. I didn't learn much from SC except meanings of: Zealot, Corsair, and Scourge. In terms of other games so learned so much from Civilization IV and III.

You can't say Pro-toss in Korean, only Pe-ro-tot or Pe-ro-to-se. Thus, they do sound the same!

I certainly learned almost all of my advanced vocabulary from games growing up. I remember in high school English classes studying Shakespeare, and the teacher having to ask the class "So who knows what an apothecary is?" and the entire class was like clueless. And I'm just thinking "O that's the medicine man.... and in the future he extracts DNA from space marines, lol"
I admire your commitment to being *very* oily

Isn't "hydra" in Korean pronounced with a long e sound? That doesn't seem to work with "hydrogen," "dehydration," or any of the other words on that page.

Im laughting here, because the main reason i post here on TL is exactly that: aside from the starcraft content, mafia games and the people i use this site to keep my english improving. Im sure i can understand about 90% of what i read in english yet my ability to speak and write in english is very poor. I think its time to change my quote.
Help me! im still improving my English. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. M. G.

The Korean alphabet is phonetic and thus easy to learn. From there, I would say that yes, you can learn Korean fairly decently like that.

And this is coming from someone who only had exposure to Korean from StarCraft VODs and Korean SC websites. Now, in 2009, I understand more than I don't understand while reading an interview on Fomos or watching an SC VOD, for example.

Granted this was over a 10 year period, but I think the length doesn't matter. All that matters is your desire to learn.

Also, I found the pictures on the bottom of this HILARIOUS. lol @ David+Goliath.
