That's impossible.

But no I'd really like to see where this technology goes within the next 10-20 years. Maybe they'll be capable of mapping out a persons dreams. I think that would be very interesting to see. I for one, can never remember my dreams, unless I write them down as soon as I wake up. I think I've only had 2 very vivid dreams in my life.
Not bad for a cat toy.

You're okay with the LHC, but scared about this? Eyescan technology, implanted electronics, etc.. All that shit is already out there. I wouldn't worry too much.
I'm not worried about this, I just think its an area Science should not go.

so you are worried...
has anyone confirmed if the article is real?
You are fucking dumb. There is a difference between "they're gonna read my mind man!" or some kind of worry, and saying "hey, thats kind of creepy...boundaries".

calm down lol
and yea, you're worried; never said you were paranoid.
No, I am not, learn to comprehend English.

this opens doors to implanting stuff into the brain too right?

No.

I was thinking along the lines of like reading and writing, i know zero (well im taking psych right now, so maybe i know A LITTLE ) about neuroscience. But, why not?

I don't know much either, but judging from the OP writing would involve changing blood flow in specific places in a specific way, which doesn't sound very plausible, whereas reading it is pretty easy (the hard part for that is knowing where to look and how to interpret it, which seems to be the breakthrough here).

i don't see what the huge deal is here....it's common sense. they're reading the reaction of the brain (by blood flow to which areas, how much, etc). the brain reacts a certain way to an "A". all the computer is doing is seeing what the reaction of the brain is to that and printing out that shown image when it sees that reaction again. the only interesting thing here is the accuracy needed for the data.

the main problem with this is that the comp learns by seeing the reaction of the brain. the most straightforward way of teaching the computer is to show it everything that the brain would react to, and so it can interpret anything the brain "experiences". now obviously that's impossible, it would take ages to show a brain every possible stimuli. it stands to reason that there will be similarities b/n stimuli...we all make connections between objects. case in point - i'm sure a certain song will remind u of something, like a song can remind u of a dance u had with a girl or something along those lines. the brain will react not only to the song, but also the memory of that event that the song reminds you of. so, the problem is differentiating b/n these two different brain reactions. and then of course one has to consider that the connections in everyone's brain is different. no two ppl have the same brain. true, the letter "A" will probably incite a very similar neural response b/n any two ppl, but will it be similar enough for the computer to determine that both ppl are seeing an "A"? only time will tell.

personally, i'm not sure i agree with the advancement of this technology. sure, it'd be nice to see exactly what an artist does, but if this is used on witnesses for a crime, i can see problems arising. nobody's memory is perfect, and how would one tell if what the brain is "seeing" from a memory is actually what occurred, or if it's partial truth mixed with imagination? if the brain itself doesn't know if it's lying, would those centers of the brain that are associated with lying show any activity?

as for this technology being used to force an image into someone's head; this has nothing to do with that. to do so one would have to incite the exact same activity in the brain as would have occurred if they had actually seen that image...which isn't exactly possible with current technology. so at least we don't have to worry about that

I'm not sure that you comprehend, brjdrb, the mind-blowing awesomeness of somehow converting the brain's signals into digital outputs... I think this would be a great lie detector of sorts.

at last my Protoss brethren! we will have the psi-link we've all been waiting for....

No seriously, if this shit comes to pass that we can record our dreams.. every living and dead hot celebrity will have a fucking scandal with each one of us...

This will be the new era.. every single movie in hollywood would be sucking balls because our dreams have better action packed films in them...

Non-addicts can now relate to the crack/meth addicts since they can show what they been hallucinating about..

This is the new world.. This is the new YouTube!
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a
