Holy crap. The article is for real btw, here's the link for the abstract in the journal : http://www.cell.com/neuron/abstract/S0896-6273(08)00958-6 I don't know this journal, but it has a pretty high impact factor, so it must be a reference in the field. There's still a long way to go, but what they have already achieved is pretty amazing.

I think technology develops faster and changes things faster than humanity's maturity can catch up... things are going to get interesting, maybe even terrifying.

Actually, the science advances too slowly. I expect they would be able to extract movies from human and animal brain in HD format by NOW. X-(

I think it's premature to assume that this technology will be successful in analyzing more complex images and thoughts. This research still seems to be in its proof-of-concept stage, and will require lots of time, interest, and funding in order to reach that next step.

I wonder what transduction methods they're using there. I'm pretty sure they're using some simple electro-chemical measurement system. With some optical based trandsuction system they'd definitely get the sensitivity they are after Really really cool, can't wait for more updates

Oh! Questions!
If the subject has really bad vision, the resulting pictures would also be respectively inaccurate? And also, what if a person with those conditions that they read everything backwards or upside down? What if the subject doesn't understand what he/she is seeing? Like they see ink blots and are told to visualize what it's supposed to be... does their visualition show up or does what they actually see show up?
