http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=56937 BAM, close thread

Get Cube (1997), pretty suspenseful and makes you think too.
Cube, Wow this movie was crazy. The budget and acting were kind of cheap at times but other than that the movie was pretty damn cool. Basically 6 very diverse people wake up in these rooms that each have 6 doors which lead to more rooms of the same feature. Some of the rooms have traps, every room has a distinct marker and they have to try and decipher it to escape before they die of dehydration/starvation (or themselves!).There are some pretty subtle humor parts in the movie as well that are hilarious. The only thing the movie was missing imo, is that there should've been more people and it needed more gore/death stuff.
7/10

City Of God (Cidade De Deus) (portuguese with subs i think) Crime/Gang movie
Pretty cool movie about a slum in Brazil that is run by hoodlum gangs who rob and steal for the most part. They eventually start to sell drugs, buy out police, traffic guns etc. After a while the gangs pretty much take over or kill other rival gangs businesses and there are only 2 gangs remaining. The 2 gangs have an all out war meanwhile the main character/narrator is sort of on the sidelines. I don't wanna give away anymore but this movie is definitely worth a watch. At the end they show some real stock news footage interviews of the true story it was based on (didn't even know til I saw it).
8/10

District B-13 8/10, is a French movie that has to do with Parquer (sic?, -that free style walking shit). Anyways the premise is kinda like escape from new york. Big prison city run by gangs and shit , guy has to infiltrate to save the world from a bomb. I know this description sounds pretty lame but trust me its an awesome movie.

PS- All these movies aren't very mainstream. That's why I suggested them instead of my favorite movies like Predator or Payback or whatever.
But yea my top 3 favorites:
PayBack Crime/Drama/Action/Neo Noir
StarShip Troopers 1 Action/SciFi/(some comedy)
The Thing Action/SciFi/Horror/Suspense [this actually fits your 'want' description very well haha]

It's probably because everyone on campus sharing with each other using dc++, so download speed = Lan speed, which is about 7MB/s. That's the speed I used to have when downloading from other kids who are on the campus network.

If you haven't seen it yet, see "HEAT". It's a crime movie. Last time Robert De Niro was good in a movie, and boy was he good. So was Al Pacino and that entire cast.

Great fucking movie

Hey guys, I just registered here but I've been on TeamLiquid for a long time. I really need someone to make a topic asking if someone can make subtitles for a recent Korean movie called "Keurosing" in Korean or "Crossing" in English. Its about a North Korean man who escapes into China to find medicine for his sick wife and leaves his 11 year old son there. This movie really looks awesome and I just downloaded it. So if someone can please translate it and make a subtitle file for it, it would be greatly appreciated. If you need the movie to translate, PM me and I'll send it to you. Thanks again.

If you want cool action / crime movies, this is the list:

Matrix (of course)
Leon (very good movie)
Shawshank Redemption (prison movie, not so much action, more drama, still one of the best)
Thin red line (war movie, very good movie, a bit long though, but worth it, lots of killing)
Newest Rambo movie (lots of action / killing, very good)
Do not watch Kill bill (you pretty already have though). Piece of shit movies, overrated like nothing else
Pan's Labyrinth is pretty good. Worth to watch.
Fight Club is cool
The Prestige, pretty fucking epic movie. MUST WATCH.
The illusionist, also pretty good, not as good as the prestige though.

But please do not I repeat DO NOT download Pulp Fiction was an ass movie . Just because Travolta and Samuel are kickass actors and have cool lines. That doesn't mean the movie itself sucks!

Bah this Movie blows.

Total Recall
Robocop
T2: judgement day
Predator
Aliens and Alien
are kickass oldschool almost no CGI but puppetry asskicking movies.
Animatronics > CGI
All the other movies are normal and fun and cool I guess, but I repeat! DO NOT WATCH PULP FICTION, it even has it in it's name it is pulp.

I think the following movies were not mentioned already:

Scum (1971) - a story of a guy in a correction facility, I found it very strong
Requiem for a dream - very strong movie (searching for more films like this)
Goodfellas - great gangster movie
A Clockwork Orange
The Krays (1990) - quite decent gangster movie

Mentioned but worth a repost (you probably know them allready)
Snatch - my favorite movie probably, great gangsterish story
Las Vegas Parano - drug comedy, pulp fictionish
Fightclub

I would never recommend Sympathy for Lady Vengeance; perhaps I did not understand the movie; personally I think the whole trilogy sucked (the last part still was the best though, it had some action at least). I did not like the Departed either - di caprio was quite hard to be distinguished from matt damon; in fact I thought that matt damon played both characters rotfl!
In addition, I would not recommend Children of men - if you want a good movie about people's behavior in hard times watch the Night of the living dead.
Shooter - this movie was so incredibly cliche.. I would never call it a good movie

I didn't really like No Country for Old Men. I don't know what people think is so great about it. It was okay, but I think in a non-strike year, it probably would not have been up for movie of the year.

Angels with Dirty Faces. The ending alone is worth the watch.

Only one other person mentioned this, Requiem for a Dream, Darren Aronofsky's other film Pi was also decent, but don't watch it if you enjoy cgi or special effects

and others I don't think have been mentioned,

Usual Suspects
Slumdog Millionaire - heard it was good
Crash
Glory - if you like the american civil war
Iron Man - i thought the suit was pretty sweet

Most of these have been mentioned, some may not have been I went into this thread thinking "All of these movies have been named, why should I even post?????"

The Departed (Probably one of the greatest films I've seen)
Strangers on a Train (The original, If you like Hitchcock, this one is good)
Rope (Also Hitchcock)
Planet Earth (A documentary, but very well done)
Ocean's 11 & 12, both were pretty great.
Braveheart
Lord of the Rings (Probably my most favorite story ever)

Those are just some of them, I figure the others you have probably seen, and even probably seen most I listed.
