"only 150 years" -.-;; 50 years ago blacks couldn't attend schools in the south, today the US is getting a black president.

Let's face it, the USA Presidential election will affect most of the world more than their local elections.

Guessing Ohio/Texas/Florida, could be either IMHO.

racist country is kind of a slippery term

there are obviously still racists in the US, all it proves is that racism wasnt enough to prevent Obama from being elected

Its not like obama is elected and suddenly racism disappears.
And its not like another black candidate would perform as well as obama

I would compare it to catholics after kennedy won, less important on the central stage, but not entirely gone

actually it's widely believed that the republican party will shift to the right if tonight is a landslide, reason being that the more moderate republicans coincidentally occupy the seats most vulnerable to a Dem tidal wave.

Actually this could be good. If Republicans stop spending big and become fiscally responsible, that could be what saves them. So if more real conservatives remain, that could be good.

I think dems are better at being dems. So Reps should stick with being Reps.

In so many ways, I'm not used to backing the winning team. With the exception of my decision to back Samsung Khan a year or so ago, people/things I tend to support seem to find a way to lose. Here's to Obama starting to reverse that trend! With Ohio going his way, it's all but wrapped up.

Yeah, all the news stations don't want to call it until someone gets 270, but I think everyone knows in the back of their minds that Obama's won.

well 150 is only 2 generations... if 150 yrs ago they hated a president for looking out for black wat do u think will happen 150 yrs later when a black person is a president?.. there will always be those who hate and a country's assasination or even an assassination attempt by a country's citizen against its own president is demoralizing and also weaken a country as a whole

And now NBC calls Ohio for Obama. Let's say the obvious: With losses in Ohio and Pennsylvania there is no realistic path to victory for McCain.

i don't see how this is the case
specter in PA, both the maine senators, smith in oregon, coleman on minnesota (if he wins) are still pretty moderate, it's not like they're going to suddenly swap their views on everything just because dems are in power

Will probably widen as we get more results from NY/CA and the rest of the Pacific coast.

Our first black president may be the president with the most votes in history
