Hi, sorry for posting this twice, I originally posted this as a Blog, but I got requests of posting this in the general forum. I guess it should've gone here in the first place anyway.
Pc gamer is voting the top 100 games. Now this one might be hard, but can we win that vote?
Here is the link: http://www.pcgamertop100.com/index.php
When you register there, which takes no e-mail confirmation whatsoever, you can vote for your top 10 games.
Here is my list, if the game has sequels I chose the best out of the series:
This was so hard to choose after the top 5. Honorable mentions: -Zak McKracken (couldnt vote it WTF?) -Half-Life -Medieval 2: Total War -Civilisation -The Secret of Monkey Island
Getting Starcraft onto place one would be an epic win.

I have to register, it won't happen, sorry.

Just spam it with 'asdf' . No email confirmation or anything like that.

Hmm that site broke my computer, maybe I'll try later on a different one. I probably haven't played 10 different computer games though T_T

#1 -- Never post a direct link to the site you want us to vote for; people will click it and the refererrer URL (www.teamliquid.net) will make it obvious that we are pwning them: backfire.
#2 -- Nobody wants to register just to vote. That's asking too much!

nm, someone validated my feelings of laziness, im not going to bother

1. Starcraft 2. Return to Castle Wolfenstein 3. Call of Duty 2 4. Portal 5. Garry's Mod 6. GTA: San Andreas 7. Kingpin 8. Call of Duty 9. Hitman: Blood Money 10. Peggle

Its really easy to register, they ask for an email but you don't need to go to it to verify
Took about 15 seconds

Since this is quite a big vote, there will be tons of sites linking to it, so some referrals from teamliquid.net won't make much of a difference. You don't have to vote obviously if you dont want to, but registration is short and doesn't require you to do more than fill 5 fields.

ok i ended up voting, im not sure why, i felt bad about not doing it
and I have to say, looking back, it was a hassle
ok i had this typed out but voting for this stupid thing is so fucking difficult that even though I registered I am not going to vote, what the hell this site is annoying
yes im a flip-flopper stfu

Don't you just drag titles in the order you want them? Mine froze when I got to that part but it seemed pretty simple at least.

+ Show Spoiler +My Votes
1. Starcraft 2. Guild Wars 3. Team Fortress 2 4. Half-Life 2 5. Portal 6. System Shock 2 7. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter 8. Psychonauts 9. Worms (series) 10. Grim Fandango
This was pretty hard for me, a lot of PC games fit into top 10. So I made the list 4 times before I decided to limit it to one per genre, but after only filling in 7 (two because they were in the wrong genre and I said fuck it) I had to break that rule and add a couple more of the same genre games. I might have voted a 2nd RTS game but after I played Starcraft no other RTS game has been able to impress me. Darwinia was pretty cool for a while but it feels more like an action game when I'm taking control of my individual squads and telling them exactly where to shoot. Warcraft 3 doesn't qualify as an RTS to me, maybe if Blizzard called it an RPG or rather didn't label it anything I would be more forgiving, matter of fact I wish they wouldn't have taken an RTS approach with the game considering the elements that make it up take it far away from the RTS world. X-wing vs Tie fighter is on there as a space shooter game, the only one I felt comfortable with voting due to my lack of knowledge of others and the fact I enjoyed it more than others.

Voted.
asdf@asdf.asdf FTW. When you fill in a fake email you dont need to worry about clicking all "plz send me spam" boxes. They are welcome to send spam to that email.
How can we monitor our progress?? I can only see the "popular the last 24 hours" thingy... sc is on 9:th place on that list for the record.

I don't feel my list was very far cause there's a lot of classic games I haven't even played (ie I've never played half life, I've played CS like 3 times in my life..).
And I also feel like there's some games that I'd put in my top 10 that wasn't there (but right now I can't think of which :D)..
So I think I made it something like:
1 SC 2 Star Control (star control 2 specifically, so, so, sooooo very good) 3 UFO: Enemy Unknown 4Alien Swarm (best co-op game of all time) 5 Secret of Monkey Island (even though I never finished this game, I got really far then I accidently deleted all my saves and was like fuuuuuuuuuck then went back to playing SC I think). Ahh I remember playing this as a little kid (man the game is only 1 year younger than me), could never figure out how to get past the dogs :/ I gave them the meat, they ate it. I gave them cooked meat, they ate it. + Show Spoiler +having to find a random flower in the woods didn't really occur to me
6. Deus Ex 7. Bioshock 8. Final Fantasy VII 9. Rayman (series) 10. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Never even finished FF7 but I loved the music. I don't have the patience for RPGs these days (mostly) so maybe I never will.. Rayman series I only ever played one game of but I liked it. Jedi Knight, well, I liked it and I was running out of games. I felt like putting Gears of War in there since I just finished it but as fun as it was.. the story is hardly, you know, revolutionary ;p?
EDIT: Oh snap, grim fandango was in the list? I didn't find it. It's (again) a game I never completed (because when I tried to play it again it was just extremely buggy once I got to CD 2 and I kinda gave up maybe it's cause of XP or my disc was scratched or something) but suuuuch a stylish game. Awesome awesome voices

It's also hard to say if SC deserves "greatest game of all time". I mean, it's MY favorite game, and it's certainly the most, hm.. succesful in terms of transcending the "game" label, but viewed as a game-game, like entertainment/movie type deal then maybe not. I dunno I sort of consider SC almost more of a sport but maybe this isn't fair to SC the game :p
This made no sense did it ?

Games I wish I could fit in:
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Duke Nukem 3D Descent Escape Velocity (NOT ON THE LIST) Myth (great RTS, I wish I could redo my list I would put that in there if I could) Bioshock (note: I technically already have it on the list)
Games that belong but I would never vote for: Garry's Mod (technically not a game, its still really cool though) Final Fantasy VII (I know this is a PC game, I even have it for PC, but it belongs on a console list)
|

There would of course be other honorable mentions, and list might actually look different if there was more choices, but oh well...

Voted, to make SC win though we should all vote random shitty games from 2-10 that have no chance of winning (Games obviously get points for being anywhere in the top 10). Strategic voting people!

i am in deep shock i cant choose top 10 i simply refuse to vote the games that are listed there made me drift far away wow
edit: bioforge, tycoons, alone in the dark, the settlers, magic carpet, MDK, flashback, little big adventure, full throttle, crusader, lemmings, cannon fodder, fallout, jagged alliance, Z, total annihilation, mech warrior, terminal velocity, pirates, gettysburg, the settlers, UFO/x-com, OMGGGGG THESE ARE ONLY THE FAVORITE ONES THAT I PLAYED NONSTOP
gaming used to be so different before bw. Until 2000-2001 i basically played every more or less major game that came out. Soooo many not even listed there!

oh god, this is so hard to do
while reading the games list, i noticed that i play(ed) way too much :-)
p.s.: voted ofc for sc as #1

1. Half-Life (best online FPS, cool sp, first game i played on PC) 2. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (best sp game ever) 3. Starcraft (kinda sucks) 4. Quake III (vanilla q3 was awesome but cpma was even better) 5. Tribes II (didn't get the attention it deserved, one of best team games) 6. Enemy Territory (just as good as tribes) 7. Fallout (oldscholl ) 8. Gothic (just kicks ass) 9. Oblivion (fucking mainstream compared to TES 3 but still rocks) 10. No One Lives Forever (best sp shooter ever!)

iakNab didn't even include Starcraft in his top 10 list. REDBLUEGREEN says "kinda sucks" and places it at third.

where did i list my top 10? there's over 20 games mentioned in my post, many of them are series/had remakes, with no specific order. There's also a line about how bw changed my "gaming life" Lets just hope you're trying to be cute, which is totally "cool" thing to do

im surprised elder scrolls 4 dint make the list. half life should b on the top 10 also. i dont think ff7 should b called a "pc" game neither cuz it's a port

Im shocked that the editors at PC Gamer put Stacraft so low on their list (# 100 out of 100 actually). Frankly that's insulting an entire country as well as everybody on this forum. Everybody should vote because a boycott wouldn't do anything, although I am kinda disgusted.

My list: 1. Starcraft (Well, duh) 2. SimTower (I have such a crush on simtower. One of the most addicting games ever made. Damn I wish I kept the disk.) 3. Sim City 3000 (Love this game) 4. SimCity 2000 ( Loved this game before I loved 3000) 5. Team Fortress 2 ( Fun) 6. Age of Empires 2: The age of kings (played this game before I played starcraft. Taught me how fun rts games were.) 7.Bioshock (Great until the end) 8. Half Life 2 (Fun but kinda...meh) 9. GTA San Andreas ( Extremely baller) 10. Soldat (really addicting free 2d person shooter)

You say vote for Starcraft? Got it.
Civilization, Simcity, Freelancer, and Mass Effect also definitely deserve my vote.

Starcraft - no explanation needed Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - I honestly fucking love this game. It's a great game even without other humans (which is what you'll end up with basically all the time). There's a LOT of strategy in the game, but it's different than sc by a lot (especially by being a turn-based strategy game). If starcraft is the best real-time-strategy, I'd say this game is the best turn-based-strategy game, easily as fun/epic as starcraft, but the lack of real competetive human vs human play prevents it from being at the same level as starcraft. Battlefield: 1942 - I love this game. It's fun to mess around in, there's a lot of stuff you can do, no game is exactly the same. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - I love this game so much. I can't put it into words, but this game is amazing for being a 1 player game. Oblivion - imo doesn't live up to Morrowind, but still is a good game. I feel like they babied Morrowind down too much and threw better graphics on it. Some of the new features are nice, but overall I prefer Morrowind in nearly every aspect. Homeworld - Fun while fairly simple. I love how easy they make it to control units in a completely 3d space environment. Homeworld 2 is ok, but besides the graphics, every change they made was kind of disapointing to me, from what I found. Prince of Persia - I remember loving this game when I played it on my old mac. Counter-Strike: Source - I don't love the game, but it can be fun I guess. Knights of the Old Republic - A great game, but too limited and inflexible imo. Yes, there are lots of different dialogue options, yes there are many quests with atleast two different options to complete each one, but it feels like the same game regardless, the same experience, and the game is just so linear despite giving you moderate freedom over which planets to go to. Same shit on the planets no matter what order you go to them in. Zangband - I've actually never played Zangband, but if Angband was on the list it would be my #2 choice. Zangband is a mod of Angband, but Angband wasn't on the list -_- Angband is quite possibly the greatest rpg ever, imo. No game is remotely the same, and while the gameplay is kind of linear, the immense variety in the monsters, weapons, and dungeons makes up for it. It's so addicting it's ridiculous, a great game. Presumably Zangband follows some of that ._.
Stronghold is a really great game, a real-time strategy game, but it wasn't on the list. I don't know though if I'd have put it on my top 10 had it been there. Stronghold 2 was ok, but just had too much stuff imo. I prefer Stronghold over Stronghold 2 in most aspects.

Starcraft is like #5 rite now...

You know, maybe the OP should point it out not to click on the link, but to open a new browser window and paste the link. It's far too easy to figure out most of the Starcraft votes come from this site and they might view that as poll rigging.

It's hardly poll rigging when we honestly think Starcraft is the #1 game.

#1 Starcraft #2 Half-Life 2 #3 Thief II: The Metal Age #4 Dungeon Keeper 2 #5 Fallout 2 #6 Counter Strike #7 Diablo II #8 Baldur's Gate II #9 Heroes of Might and Magic III #10 Gothic II

I must to appologize for not voting Starcraft. I have to put Final Fantasy VII first in every given situation.
Starcraft at the second spot though!

it s just because i m quite bored
1. Starcraft 2. Jade Empire 3. Bioshock 4. alien VS Predator 2 (good old memories) 5. Halo 6. Morrowind 7. KOTOR 8. Diablo 2 9. Mass effect 10. Deus Ex

xbtx: Morrowind>oblivion imho Oblivion is nice (graphics etc...) but too easy and i dont like the monster s level changing according to yours. I remember Morrowind when you can barely kill a rat at first and you can t cast your spells all the time at first. It makes you really feel like you re "beginning your journey" But in the end (after 300+hours i ve to say) you feel really powerful: you can pwn anything in one spell. where as on oblivion even at high level i can t clear the arena that easily.
Yet: walking in morrowind was abit boring and the map system is way better in oblivion.
Oh yes and i miss the levitation spell...
|
Because i like lists, here's mine.
1. Starcraft 2. Deus Ex 3. Freelancer 4. Portal 5. The Secret of Monkey Island 6. UFO: Enemy Unknown 7. Civilization IV 8. Railroad Tycoon 9. Unreal Tournament 10. World of Warcraft

1. StarCraft 2. Final Fantasy VII 3. Diablo II 4. Worms 5. Tony Haws Pro Skater 6. Sim City 2000 7. Quake II 8. Duke Nukem 3D 9. WarCraft III 10. GTA III: San Andreas

So ok, eventually got around to voting and towards the end I realized how fucking hard it was. There are just too many games I want to put on that list. For every game I include, I feel guilty betraying another title that's given me many a great moment. Crap. They'd have to make a list genre by genre tbh. Wanted to include great, magical titles like Sacrifice, an often overlooked RTS which, to simplify, was war between wizards, serving different gods, using souls to create armies, converting enemy souls to your god for strengthening your army etc. Great, overlooked game.
Then there's all those moments playing Thief.. Every Total War game ever made (ended up including only the most classic title), the Diablo games (yeah, not even those made my list). Not putting Team Fortress Classic on the list felt like a huuuge betrayal, given how much fun I had with that back in what was it, 7th, 8th grade or something. Great stuff. Hell, even WoW which took 170 days of effective time from my life (/spit) Childhood memories of Heroes, SimCity, C&C (+RedAlert), TIE Fighter, Lemmings, Doom II, old FIFA and NHL games, KoTOR, NeverWinterNights, Baldur's Gate, Black and White, Age of Empries... gwarghh. This is like assigning the 7 wonders of the world. Too bloody hard.
Anywho, final list ended up looking like:
1. Final Fantasy VII 2. Starcraft 3. Mafia 4. Operation Flashpoint 5. Warcraft III 6. Grim Fandango 7. Shogun: Total War 8. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast 9. Max Payne 10. Crysis

well i was going to vote and i even registered but they have such a shitty selection of games that i couldn't get past starcraft T________T

where's Chrono Trigger? Secret of Mana? Lufia? ANY of the Zelda series?

my list 1. Starcraft (duh) 2. Star Control (series) never played 1, and 3, although the dialogue is somewhat witty and the combat system is cool, pretty much sucks. but star control 2 is an incredible masterpiece. 3. The Curse Of Monkey Island best of the monkey island series, it's just hilarious and challenging all the way through 4. UFO: Enemy Unknown I played this game yesterday and it's no less incredible than it used to be. I tried to play some of the newer xcom/ufo games but none of them like.. holds a grip of me like this game. 5. Heroes of Might and Magic III best in the HOMM series, it's a very great tbs. I'd put master of magic here instead if 1: master of magic was possible to pick and 2: if it wasnt so buggy. contemplated putting age of wonders series instead, which I have played more in the last year, but I've played a LOT of HOMM3 through the years. :p and age of wonders, while great, just doesnt score that highly "atmospherically". 6. Warcraft II second best rts ever, especially with the b.net edition this game is still very entertaining to play. :p 7. Master of Orion (series) never played MOO3, but MOO1 is one of the most important tbs pioneers and MOOBAA is one of the most perfect ones. 8. Doom II playing doom 2 in lan when i was like 12 is still one of the coolest gaming experiences ever. 9. Quake wasnt sure if I should pick quake or quakeworld as quakeworld was what I played. but dm on dm4 in qw was just sooo action packed. im dumbfounded as to why CS became the biggest fps.. 10. Elder scrolls 3:Morrowind frankly I havent played much rpgs, but I really loved the freedom this game allows you. some interface problems tho ;( but overall good enough to get my 10th spot, although frankly it could have been knocked out by some games I didn't find.

Really i swear FF7 should not be allowed to be on there one point it's basically a sell out point it wasn't ment for pc play it can be played on pc but then if you include such an absurdity to be on the list just because it was realsed on pc by demand then why not include all roms playable and on pc.
My list in no order porably be Starcraft, Diablo 2, Dune 2, Team fortress 2, Civilization 4, Warcraft 3 tft, Roller coaster tycoon, unreal tournament 2004, Imperishable Night and World of warcraft(is everyone afraid to touch this lol shows how great it is if everyone is afraid of addiction)

An overwhelming majority of the people I know who've played it, played it on PC. Calling it a PC game is perfectly fine.

North American version is shit and censored though 4. Oblivion I've played the original like 4 times through.. great game 5. Jade Empire Very underrated RPG, don't think many ppl have played it. 6. Team Fortress 2 First 100 hours were AWESOME, after that it got repetitive though lol 7. Mass Effect I enjoyed it a lot but only 1 city and very boring side quests.. it's a far cry from KOTOR, bioware's older RPG. 8. FF7 9.The Sims 2 - Too addictive to not include it. TL could easily own any gaming related polls any time if everyone took it seriously, just take a look at what happened with the "Walk Of Game" contest.
edit: oh what the fuck how is Lotr online so highly ranked today? I thought that game was a huge flop.

I'll vote Starcraft at #1 but most of the other games I've never even heard of besides other blizz and id titles. What the hell am I going to do with the other nine votes?

I remember Morrowind when you can barely kill a rat at first and you can t cast your spells all the time at first. It makes you really feel like you re "beginning your journey" But in the end (after 300+hours i ve to say) you feel really powerful: you can pwn anything in one spell. where as on oblivion even at high level i can t clear the arena that easily.
Yet: walking in morrowind was abit boring and the map system is way better in oblivion.
Oh yes and i miss the levitation spell... this. Also, Oblivion just felt MUCH smaller, which was only accentuated by Fast Travel being available at any time, whereas in Morrowind you still had to march a ways to find a nearest city which had some form of fast travel. Quests in Oblivion are kind of boring, because you just fast travel to a place close to where you need to be, if not the place itself. The few times the quest was out of the way, it was WAY out of the way, just annoying to get to. And on the way, you'd have to fight lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!), who all had way too much health, and did way too much unblockable damage. While Oblivion may be in some aspects more realistic (like your sword hitting every time), it feels like it imbalances the game a lot with such changes. Also, the nerfs they applied while were mostly needed in some form, I feel they over did it. Like you really can't be just a mage, without carrying 100 potions of sorcery (resore magicka), you can't afford to use nothing but spells, and it's not fun to have to rely on items imo, I'd rather rely on my own skill and prowess in the game, knowing that all my time spent leveling up was worth it. I mean come on, as you level up your magic levels don't go up nearly as fast, so you're fighting things way stronger with the same spells, because there's no difference from a level 25 spell and a level 49 spell, except that each spell does a tiny bit more damage and requires a tiny bit less mana. Then finally you get to 50 destruction, and can learn new spells, but they cost so much more mana per damage that it's really not worth it, but vs the stupid animals (which you can't block against) you really need the stronger spells. By the time you get the next set of spells, you still need to use the next set of spells, ie if you get journeyman destruction, level 50, you need expert level by that time (level 75). And lots of things along this line. On the other hand, a lot of nerfs were in order for Morrowind. I hate how they removed so many skills though. You used to have to carefully pick which weapon skill you wanted, because it only applied to one kind. Now there are only two weapon types, so odds are you'll find a weapon you can use because every other monster uses either a blunt weapon or blade weapon. And axes being "blunt" ? Come on -_-
Sorry for rant. Playing Oblivion makes me miss Morrowind, and playing Morrowind makes me miss Oblivion. Neither are the Ring of the Power of games Oblivion was kind of like what SC2 is turning out to look, the same great fundamentals, with a more noob-friendly approach.
