You aren´t really guaranteed to get a physically identical being. As someone already said, the mitochondria will be different. But more importantly, scientists discovered a whole new field in genetics:
epigenetics
It´s becoming clear nowadays, that factors in the environment of animals and plants can lead to activation or deactivation of some genes. Especially the cloning process itself can have such effects. It´s possible that your cloned dog does turn out differently in the end.

Next step: clone you dead children ? That certainly sounds like an interesting venture.
hahahah, surely i can't be the only person in the thread who got this joke!

First thing I thought of was the movie The 6th Day with the good ol' Governator playing the lead. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216216/
Btw, I don't get the venture joke even now that I know it's supposed to mean something more =[ I know what a ventuer is but I don't get the reference here.

Basically you give scientists a tooth and they break it open and take some stem cells from inside. They then put these stem cells in the testes of a mouse and wait a while. Then they kill the mouse and harvest your new sperm. Mix it with an egg and viola, the genetic child of an infertile man. Think about how huge the ability to have children is to an infertile man. That's how valuable stem cell research is. so basically, this is the result + Show Spoiler + I imagine they make sure to use human sperm rather than mouse sperm.

Here's the real question...
Why clone it five times?
Why not clone it once, and when it dies, clone it again? I guess rational thought is outside her comprehension

Epigenetics... Awesome.
I learn something new everyday.

This reminds me of Duncan Idaho. -_-

Also you can do a lot of tests on clone dogs so I am sure that they gets an open arms welcome back at the laboratory.

And we only learned about DNA like 50 years ago.

idk about you guys, but my dog is getting old (12-13) and I would love to have another with his genes =/

Have your girlfriend give you dog a blowjob. If things go well you may soon have dogmen with your dog's genes.

But eh, I guess I really don't care if someone feels like spending their 50k on it to make themselves feel better. if i remember correctly they would have the same personality at birth but their life experience can change it. Not even.
Research has shown that humans are actually influenced by their experiences in the womb. It likely has an effect on dogs as well.
On the other hand, genes have so much say in who we are that the clones would probably end up similar to their "originals" in many ways.

Would you rather have 1 Dave[9] or 5 Dave[9]'s?
or even worse...
Would you rather have 1 Jared or 5 Jareds?

Personally, I don't see why some people get uptight about human cloning. As far as I'm concerned, we already have human clones, namely identical twins. Now we'll just have the twins living at different times.
Heck, it's not like you're bringing the other person back from the dead or anything. If one identical twin died in an accident, who would consider the other twin to be that same person? Now replace the identical twin with a clone, and it's the same situation, imo.
Furthermore, I think it's pointless to argue about the effects of the clone knowing they're a clone of someone else, or knowing that person's life history, etc. The effects will depend entirely on what kind of person the clone is: it might motivate them to surpass their "original" or it might depress them. Considering the zillion other things that "may or may not depress" a person, I don't see this as being fundamentally different.
