How would you feel if , perhaps, you could live to see the next century, or thousands of years in the future?
Well with this company- Using a process called Cryonics may be able to do that.
Well what the heck is Cryonics?
+ Show Spoiler + Cryonics is the practice of using very cold temperatures to stop the dying process when ordinary medicine can no longer sustain life. This is done with the intention of saving a patient's life until a cure for their illness can be found, and means developed to reverse the cryonics process. The technology to reverse cryonics is still theoretical.
Awesome, I hate the world, sign me up , i don't wanna live anymore!
Can I be cryopreserved before I legally die?
+ Show Spoiler +Unfornately, No. Current law does not allow freedom of choice in this matter. Since human cryopreservation is not currently reversible, it is under current law a state of legal death. Actively making a person legally dead is a crime regardless of what that person's wishes may be. For this reason, Alcor must wait until illness or injury causes the heart to stop, and for an independent authority to declare that further medical care is not appropriate and that therefore the patient is legally dead. Only after that determination is made can the cryopreservation procedures begin.
Well WTF, how am i going to do this now? + Show Spoiler +"ONLY" 20,000 for membership lawl! Ahh you bastards! how dare you ! I thought this was really neat while i was reading it, then BAM 20k
Wish i had 20k, next Futurama gogo!! this is their site + Show Spoiler +

fools. most of your body tissue is damaged beyond repair when they freeze you. it's the most retarded waste of money to freeze yourself in the hope of resurrection.
better to give money to your family, or a charity perhaps.

When you are frozen the water in the cells makes cristals(all cells have alot of water not sure maybe 60%?) which torns the cells apart = you are dead. ( even if you are frozed alive you are killed just cuz all your cells turn to mush)
I dont think they will find some way to fix this and this is just a waist of money. But what the heck if you have millions and even if you have like 0.001% chance to be return to life than its worth it XD

better to give money to your family, or a charity perhaps. I vaguely recall reading about a similar company. Apparently they had a technique to reduce the temperature of the body bellow 0 degrees, without causing the water in cells to freeze. I believe it was called vitrification.
However, due to practical problems it was not possible to do this for the entire body. So the plan was to freeze the patient's body, hoping that future developments in nano technology or something might allow cell damage to be repaired, and vitrify the head.

At last, a way to conclusively prove whether the light goes off inside the fridge when you close it.

Man, with the technology we have today, and what I think we will have in the near (or even distant) future, I wouldn't risk it.
Besides, why would I want to wake up one day to a whole different world.

Because then you can bitch about how much better it was back in the day, and you don't have to be elderly to do so, you just have to have died.

I read somewhere that the government (in the US anyway) has seized the assets of anyone and everyone that has had this procedure. AFAIK, it's not the freezing that people have a hard time with, it's the unfreezing that nobody can do reliably yet.

"The Man From Earth"
Watch this movie! (imdb)
I won't tell what it's all about but you'll certainly see the connection to this thread. I loved that movie.

the cells are not necesarily damaged. when shockfrosting vegetables the the temperature is low enough the water doesnt crystalize or something.
edit: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schockfrosten what is roughly sais: if you freeze food very fast at very low temperatures the fluid in the cells form only very small crystals which dont damage the cell wall and the organelles membrans. after defrosting the cellstructure is largly conserved.

everyone will be so much better at SC in the future, youll just get owned.

so SC2 is actually a conspiracy ?! I KNEW IT

I think the theory is that if you get frozen quickly enough, the crystals are small enough to not do any damage and then you can potentially be unthawed in the future.

The money in your bank... let's say you even had a million dollars sitting in your bank for when you wake up. That amount would be a pitiful amount when you are awoken.

I'd rather enjoy my last few days than taking that stupid risk~

Hm, this is quite interesting ..

"Largly conserved" is quite not enough with a human body; but the true issue is that a human body is huge and you just can't freeze all the organs at the same speed, so it simply won't work.
