anyone have experience with it? how durable is the coating?
right now I have an mx518 and the rubber coating began peeling within minutes of use, it was really terrible(perhaps it was just poorly applied on my mouse?)if anyone has experience with it, does it peel under normal use, or will you have to scratch it with a nail?
my mx518 is dieing on me, and i'm looking to replace with a copperhead or lachesis, really prefer lachesis but I'm worried about the whole top being rubber coated given my experience with my mx518
anyway thx for any help

What do you mean by rubber coating?
The razer mice are mostly covered in a hard plastic, with the buttons being a slightly less durable plastic as well.

my biggest reasoning for both mice, is having two side buttons on each side, after having the two side buttons on my 510/518 I want more however the copperhead can't change dpi while in game without using two of those buttons being bound, where Lachesis has two top buttons for this
Lachesis can turn off the lights on the mouse, copperhead can't,the "tunnels" on the side of the copperhead look to be in the way to me and I don't like them much, and the Lachesis has a button on the bottom of the mouse for changing profiles which I like
overall not a huge preference toward Lachesis, enough to justify the money difference, but if its just going to peel away like my 518 I'll pass

the death adder and Lachesis have a rubber coat which is for non slip grip I suppose? if you have used either of these and didn't know they had a coating, it would sure be a good review of their durability
the whole point to the post can be summarized , if anyone has used a death adder/lachesis for a length of time has your rubber coating worn off?

I've had a copperhead for two years and it is as functional now as it was the day I got it. Very durable because it's just plastic with a softer, rougher plastic for the buttons. Only thing I have to do is wipe it down with a damp cloth once a week because the surface tends to collect all the grime off my hand and that sometimes effects the performance if I let it build up. But that's a simple maintainence thing and very easy to deal with.

Without them, you'd have to have your fingers on the bottom of the mouse. They are made of some material that grips really well, so its the perfect place to put your thumb, ring/pinky fingers.
Also, I change my DPI with one button. I set the front right side button to switch profiles, one for browsing (2k dpi) and one for SC/gaming in general (400 dpi).

considering in the last two years I've gone through 3 logitechs, with my current mx518 starting to die on me thats a good sign =)

good to know, unfortunately no stores in my immediate area carry razer products so i cant go check anything out in person, and have to rely on pics/reviews
good to know they don't get in the way
one question, in the softare suite can you set it to automatically change dpi/sensitivity for a game on launch?
or rather set it to auto load a profile when a specific game launches?

I've also had mine for a year and a half and is working perfectly.
|
i've had my logitech for mx300 (i think) for 5-6 years now. aside from the buttons showing wear it's as good as the day i got it..

I petition to have the word razer auto-turned to Razer much like poker already is.
Poll: Razer to Razer ? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No (Vote): Boxer
|
Changing the Razer font would be really annoying =\
|
I know, I just wanted to make the poll to fuck up anyone who auto-votes Boxer.

To my knowledge you can't. I'm also not at my computer so I have no way of checking this for you. It's probably safe to assume that this is not possible though, I don't remember any part of the config that relates to settings when a program is launched.

what rubber coating are you talking about on the mx518? I've had mine for two years and nothing has peeled off and its still the same awesome mouse it was when i got it.

http://forums.techarp.com/overclocking-cooling-modding/23634-logitech-mx510-mod.html
here is an mx510 where the ruber coating has been peeling off
and actually this solved my problem, the rubber coating on my mouse MUST have been improperly applied. I grabbed my old 510(which I didn't think had this coating I thought it was something new on my 518) and ran my fingernail on it causing it to scratch. If I were to do this on my mx518 it would peel a huge chunk of rubber coat off,in that forum thread they even posted the coating has to be removed with sand paper. On my 518 it comes off with the slightest scratch of my finger nail, even rubbing it to hard peels the coating it had to be applied poorly at the factory.
my 510 doesn't have this issue at all, its very hard to remove the coating on it, now that I know how rubber coating is supposed to be, I'm not worried about it
so looks like I'm getting a Lachesis, thx for everyone who posted much appreciated
I spent a lot of time googling to find info about rubber coatings and durability getting no where, takes me two seconds to find what i wanted googling for pics ;D
