So finally yakii and I found time to talk to eachother and do this interview. I hope you enjoyed it. As usual, all the interview links are in this thread.
Hey yakii! Finally we get to meet! How about we start off with the (already standard) name, age, place of residence and korean-shyness level in ilovezil percentage (100 being maximum). Name : Jang Age : 27 City and country : Busan , South Korea Korean Shyness level : I read HonestTea's thread and I wish I could give you a good explanation like HonestTea did, but I'm just a common Korean guy so I'd estimate my shyness level around 50%.
Tell me, what do you do in an ordinary day? Where do you work? Any hobbies? I'm a law student in Seoul and now I'm helping my father's work(he manages a gym) until I join the military. I also like to watch SC games and baseball but I don't play either.
How did you get to know TL.Net? I don't know which game it was, but some guy held a paper wrote "me gosu" - Team Liquid. The commentator said "Oh these guys are from TeamLiquid". So, I thought "What's this TeamLiquid?" and I joined TL that day. I just wanted to know how they knew Korean progaming and their thoughts on SC games. Not to mention that I was quite newb back then and I wanted to access more information on progaming so I read many sites about SC progaming in Korea and other countries. TL was one of them. Others were FighterForum, dcinside and GosuGamers.
Did you eventually choose for TL, or do you still visit the other sites as much as you visit TL.net? Note: Yakii at first doesn't respond, but starts transferring me the following screenshot:
If I'd have to rank the websites I still visit it'd be like this: 1 - TeamLiquid 2 - DCinside , eventhough I've been visiting DCinside less and less lately 3 - Fomos , to get pictures and news. TL is on the No.1 slot and that means TL is the site I most love to visit.
And what got you so dedicated to TL? When did you start feeling like you had to give something back to the community and start a VOD Thread? When I was reading a live report thread, I realized many people couldn't watch the games due to a time difference between Korea and other countries. I just wanted to know the thoughts of people who don't understand the commentator's comments and who are somewhat skilled at StarCraft.
Do you actually watch all the vods you post? No. When I post vods fast, it means that I watched those games, but when I post vods after 1 or 2 days its means I didn't watch the games. Too many games are played these days so I usually watch the games where my favorite gamers plays or the games that got recommended to me by someone. I also have to give alot of thanks to 밥 over at DCinside, oskyloveo and BaeZZi, they have been doing a lot of the uploading work, while I do mostly linking work.
Who are your favourite gamers and teams? Favourite game? Maybe even a favourite map? Nal_ra made me follow StarCraft closely, so obviously him. Savior, I still love you. Oh and Bisu. My favourite teams are KTF and MBCGame Heroes. If you watch the program "real story progamers - POS(MBCGame Heroes today)" you can't do anything but love them. My favorite games are the GomTV S1 final games. I still watch these games whenever I feel bored. Bisu's playing, the commentator's comments are awesome, audience is screaming like mad, everything is perfect. Favourite map : Loki II. Until recently I didn't like TvT games, but I love it when good TvT games are played on this map (usually by InteR.Mind).
How is your own StarCraft skill? Do you play alot yourself? My hands are slow, and my StarCraft skills are miserable. I don't play games which need fast clicking and typing. And I never really have time because I'm already busy with converting vods and watching games. Saying your skill is miserable on the korean scale might mean you're still gosu to people like us. No, I can't beat even 2 computers when I play myself. My dream is to play like Bisu but I'm not fast enough.
How much do you read the TL forums besides the live report threads and the Small Vod Thread? I usually read most of the threads in the Broodwar section when I'm not busy. I actually read almost all of the progaming-related threads. Sometimes, I read the threads in the general section too, when it's about an interesting topic. I don't read threads from the Strategy forum and the Sports & Games forum. Oh and I love the Final Edits, I have read them all. They are great. Because my bookmark of TL is http://teamliquid.net/forum/index.php I'm often not aware of new News posted, so I sometimes forget to read, but that doesn't happen too often.
Name some of your favourite posters. My favourite poster is SonuvBob cause he made this thread hehe ^^;;; Hehe that was a joke. He is the man who I talk with most with on MSN and IRC and he helped me a lot with everything about SC.
Now, let's discuss the bad news. You're going to do your military service in a month? I'm leaving 6th of May. Duty ends 25th of March, 2010 .
Is it safe to assume you're not looking forward to your military service at all? How much vacation will you be getting? Hehe I love seeing Marines fight with zerglings on TV but I don't want to be a Marine myself. Recently the vacationrules changed so total vacation is about a month, but if I do my job there well, I can get more days. I don't doubt that if you show the same devotion to your country as you showed to TL.Net, you will get those extra months. Hahaha, I hope so. If I get lucky my chief is a Korean TL.netter.
Did you read the earlier interviews? Do you know the two-word format? Yes, go ahead.
OSL or MSL? MSL. Nal_rA, sAviOr have almost always been in the MSL so I usually watch MSL games. I think Nal_rA couldve won an MSL at least once if he did not meet sAviOr. sAviOr was too strong for him. I watch both MSL and OSL now(after sAviOr won ShinHan OSL) but I remember MSL games better.
Meet who: Tossgirl or Bisu? Tossgirl. She's so hot. Wait..
Tossgirl and Ga-eul, Kim, a Samsung coach. The Korean text says that Ga-eul, Kim can turn her head 180 degrees. Hahaha I think that picture is from a program called "Coach's story" televised on OGN. I hope Tossgirl will advance to ODT and MST.
GomTv Star League: English cast or Korean cast? English cast. The "Storm observer" does his job very well. He's never tired and really commentates like a storm, deserving of his nickname. There are many "Storm Observer" fans in the Korean SC community and they watched the English GSI cast. I'm one of them, too. I remember he said he hoped to cast ProLeague Grand Final last year. He finally made it to Korea and even though it's not the Proleague Grand Final, I think his trip is a success.
Power Rank or Kespa Ranking? I don't like Kespa rank because sAviOr failed to win the Progamer of the year 2006 award cause his Kespa rank was under NaDa's. I think the Kespa rank didnt express his dominance in 2006 correctly. And there's some more reasons why I don't like the Kespa ranking. So yeah I definately prefer Power Rank and WP rank(Note: MBCGame's own ranking system) over Kespa Ranking. My favorite comments are "Don’t even try to argue this one." to Savior in his dominance and "PLEASE LOSE." to Nal_rA (posted by DJEtterStyle, a Nal_ra hater).
Power Rank: DJEtterStyle or FakeSteve ? FakeSteve. His pics are so funny. We need to make a FakeSteve's small pics gallery thread.
Last question: In March 2010: Post on TL.net how your military adventure was or get married and have kids? Expect "yakii's military adventure Season 1". 2 years left!
Ok, that was it. Thanks alot for making time for this yakii. I hope you enjoyed doing this. Any shoutouts? Shoutout and congratulations to humblegar: he's had a beautiful princess since 2 days ago. When I first joined TL, there was no TLPD, no TSL, no Final Edits, no Power Rank. I hope that this will continue so in 2 years I can see a completely evolved TL.net. Don't forget me TL, I'll come back after those two years.
It's... it's a dagger in my heart, Yakii. I thought we had a special, meaningful, beautiful relationship built around me offering fellatio for VODs. Now I find out that you're a picture man.
Added: Seriously, though, I love you, Yakii. Take care of yourself, and I wish you all the best in the future.
You surely won't be forgotten, especially as people will inevitably yearn for the good ol' days - the time when vods were served on a platter to them. Watching progaming had never been as easy or simple.
As those above me have said: Good Luck! (b/c I doubt you're going to have much fun~)

That's what I was thinking, maybe we should give Pum a star by proxy?
But, seriously, Yakii... your devotion is incredible, I don't think there is anyone here who hasn't reaped some of your hard work, so in short, Thank You. I share Mani's sentiments completely.
Good luck with your military service Yakii! Looking back at countless happy hours of my own enjoying the VODs from your thread makes me feel really really nolstagic It feels just like when Boxer left. Awww I hate military service... I'm so sad I'm gonna cry missing you.
Good luck in the Army, hopefully you will be able to get some internet access somehow to enjoy watching some games and to update us on how you are n_n If not, then until 2010! Hopefully I'll still be here to see it happen.
Thank you my friends! I will not forget you too and will be back ^^

haha I love you, too DJEtterStyle! wish me best of luck
May fortune follow wherever your life leads you. Good luck in the military. I'll certainly miss all your fine work, as it's made my life just a little better.
Great interview. Thanks to Rage for giving us all a chance to know a little more about Yakii before he is gone. Thanks also to Yakii for what he has provided for all of us and good luck in the military.

Massive bump. Can't think of anything to add except that I hope we see yakii again after his service ends next week. He hasn't been forgotten, and a reunion will have been a long time coming.
I joined TL too late to coincide with his awesomeness, but I was going back through the Small VOD Thread when I was still lurking and omg he was so awesome!
On March 20 2010 10:58 riptide wrote: Yakii is the reason I started watching progaming. If not for his smallvods, Starcraft would not have been accessible for me, especially pre-Youtube.
Yeah, pre-youtube was Yakii's small vods. Direct download, ~50mb per set. It was by far the most convenient way to watch the games after any match.
On March 19 2010 16:17 Megalisk wrote: The only post I have ever seen from this guy is the Small Vod thread...by the way why is is "small".its probably the biggest thread on tl!
I think its second biggest after the HoN/DotA thread. And 3 days! I hope I counted right =/

We still remember!
And wow at how much TL has developed over all this time. Now we have Fantasy PL, TL attack, Liquipedia(!), TSLD, and a bunch of other things as well. The new Mafia, SC2, and SC2 strategy forums as well.
One of the very few impressive bumps for sure, sick sick job Bwenjarin Raffrack! Dang I missed this interview and have been wondering where Yakii went -_-
The real question is: Will he come to this forum? Pheraps his life experience changes is mind too much:| (i hope at least he will come for some greetings )
damn i thought this was a new interview and i was like "wtf yakii is released from the army?" anyway respect to the guy who (among others of course) created the whole "small vod thread" thread welcome back friend!
