Virgin Media royally fucked me back in the day when they just took over NTL charging me £90 while I received no channels then threatened to sue for me deciding not to pay. But I must admit they are doing their best to take over and are doing a decent job of it. It's hard to say how much the actual internet costs since I am on the "VIP" package which includes tv and phone line.. A fair amount for it all ;(

This is wonderful, right? Apparently, we are paying for 8Mb/s. It's not particularly cheap either

You americans are seriously getting shafted hard by ISPs. I pay 30 $ for a 100 Mb/s connection and I get 114 .

Not sure if it's completely North Americans "getting shafted" but rather something different. Canadians complain all the time about cell phone and internet rates, but when you look at our population density compared to big names like Korea and Japan it makes a lot more sense. The infrastructure costs are completely different. Canada: 3.75 people per square km Sweden: 21 ppl/km2 Japan: 336 ppl/km2 Korea: 504 ppl/km2

Not bad for free internet that comes with my apartment. Sure beats the 10down 5up I paid 70$ for in America.
