You want mass Tasteless? Do ab workouts in multiple sets and less reps. Increase weight after each set, so that on your last set, you are dying trying to finish it. This will help you build mass because you are not stretching your muscles so you get toned, you are ripping it hard and when they rebuild, they rebuild big. There are four basic parts of the abs. But really people mostly just notice the 8-pack and the obliques. Also to be safe balance the strength of your abs with lower back workouts. (It'll be pointless having huge ab muscles when your back can't support the abs flexing in front of the ladies.)
Exercises 1. Decline Crunch - Decline Crunch Video - Make sure your back doesn't go down all the way cause that's cheating. I do these in sets of 15 with 0 weight, 5 pound, and 10 pounds. I die on the 10 pound ones. You can also concentrate a twisting motion at the end to work out those abs. If you are hardcore you can try Russian Twists where you are at like a 45 degree angle with your abs contracted, and you twist over and over again. 2. Dumbbell Side Bends - Dumbbell Side Bends Video - This is easy to do but make sure you are bending at your waist. You probably don't need this as much as I do cause I have lovehandles and I'm trying to get them gone. I grab a 45 and just go at it. 3. Leg Raises - These are the ones that work that lower 4 pack. The lower abs are the hardest ones to achieve. There are different ways of doing leg raises. There's one where you can hold yourself up with your triceps and lift your legs up and down. Or you can lie flat on a bench press and just lift your legs up, but make sure you use your abs to lift those legs up and not your hips. I personally like the one where I'm holding myself up, because I can grab a small dumbbell inbetween my feet and make it harder for myself.
If you're looking to make sure you get mass after your workouts, make sure within 30 minutes after your workout, that you eat some form of protein. Your muscles are tired and they are looking to feed on something quick. Protein powder owns because they are broken down proteins that your tired muscles can easily feed on. If you opt to skip protein or any form of energy after your workouts, there can be a problem. Your muscles will look for something to feed on and may start feeding on themselves! Of course protein powder is a little pricy, what I used to do in high school was just eat tuna after my workouts. Tuna or fish protein is great because fish is lean and low in fat but high in protein.

My eats include : -Tuna -Eggs -Chicken(no skin) -Protein Shakes -Pure Water -Steak -Egg Whites ^--- All day every day. 6 meals a day. YOU CAN NOT DO CARDIO if you want a body. That is for other routines. Mainly start off with "Rip" setups and such. No bulk what so ever. Continue to workout 2-3 hrs a day, 6 days a week. Monday - Sat, sunday off. During different sections of your body each day. Since abdominal region is required by all parts of the body, you'll be looking amazing in no time. Also you being 22 is it? Should have much more testostorone than I, and I'm able to build muscle mass very fast. Me: 5'11 / 6% Body Fat / 160 LB.

And why would you not do cardio? cardio = burning fat and good for you T_T And recommending anyone who's not hardcore to work out 6 days a week for 3 hours is retarded. Also i just downloaded and did that ab ripper p90x thing, it felt good. I guess i'll do it every day or every other day for a while and see if it gets any results combined with running 2-3 miles a day.

Tasteless does not have a large enough stomach to do anything, if you just abuse abdominal region you will get hurt over time and have ultimately nothing to burn. He needs to store the fat not lose it. He is not going for a runner body, he wants a fit / ab body. I'm being taught by 1 personal trainer and 1 body builder (in the family), but of course you must know more right?

And yes, to get the sexy block-abs, he needs to gain weight. Cardio is inappropriate for lanky-ass white boys, except as a tool to increase heart rate before resistance training. On the other hand, 2-3hrs/day for 6 days/week is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary, probably even dangerous unless very carefully structured... 4-days/week using a push/pull alternation, supplementing with protein powder, I was able to gain 8 lbs of lean muscle mass (I'm 5'9", so that's quite a bit) over a 6-month period. Higher sets with lower reps for maximum mass-gain.
