Your argument is like saying there was no apartheid in South Africa 1948-1994 because black Africans could vote in the student elections at universities they were allowed in.

Any Palestinian who tries to organise, build, and develop things for the better will eventually run into Israeli settlers and the IDF. They can't protect Palestinians from the violence directed at them. If someone attempts they will be eventually labelled as dangerous terrorist and killed. Any government that can't protect its people will be unpopular. This is fertile ground for corruption, as the work stops mattering and only brings the sword down on your own head. Avoiding elections and the instability they could bring probably saves lives, as there is no rallying around taking more direct action.

Like, obviously Israel isn’t practicing a system of racial oppression when it’s repeatedly demonstrated that Arab citizens of Israel have full equal rights - this latest election just being one example. If people want to have a rational discussion about the occupation and settler violence in the West Bank that discussion can be had. Bandying around the apartheid and genocide libels is just bad-faith attempts to redefine language to paint Israel in the worst possible light.

But if I'm an Arab in the West Bank my government is the Palestinian Authority and therefore I have no say over how the Israeli police and military are ordered, just the token forces of the NSF who have virtually no ability whatsoever to defend Palestinians against Israeli squatters. Well, that deal is certainly dogshit, sounds like Palestinians should convert to Judaism so they can become Israeli citizens and vote in Israeli elections. Ah, well, except you get extrajudicially murdered like David Ben Avraham (formerly known as Sameh Muhammad Abd al-Rai Zaytoun) if you try that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_David_Ben_Avraham But anyway, let's all laugh at the apartheid copers, m i rite? If you are an Italian citizen living in the Tyrol, you can vote in Italian elections. If you are an Austrian citizen living in the Tyrol, you can vote in Austrian elections. You cannot vote in Italian elections just by being an Austrian citizen who lives in South Tyrol. (I could make a similar explanation with Mongolia except the point is more confusing because the name is both a country and the region. But it shares the advantage that in both Inner Mongolia, i.e., China, and in Palestine, you can't vote anyway.) "Palestine" does not have security control over Area B in the West Bank because 1) it is incapable of maintaining security that also keeps Israel safe, and for partly related reasons, 2) it is wont to consider "security" as attacking its neighbors somehow, and 3) negotiations collapsed so it hasn't expanded anything. They don't have security control over Area C because that's Israel. Palestinians can vote in Palestinian elections. People who live in Gaza and Areas A/B are not Israeli citizens, and don't live in Israel. Why would they be allowed in Israeli elections? Which, by the way, in the entire region, Palestinians not being able to vote even in countries they do live in is par for the course except for Jordan's policy of giving citizenship. The situation in the West Bank is largely where it was the last time negotiations broke down. They could certainly go back to giving them no autonomy whatsoever if that's better than "apartheid." And is also what Palestinians face in every other country (again, except Jordan).

The government takes the blame for failures and unpopular policies. When unrest happens, the government can get support from the colonists. If the government actually tries to change the situation, it is still weak enough that other local players can be elevated to be the governing body. These players can also make their own deals with the colonists. This gives the colonial power free rein to do whatever they want. They’re too propagandized to do any good for the real issues confronting peace and reversing bad Israeli policy. They can’t do a lick of good for Palestinian rapprochement saying such ludicrous things that can’t be taken seriously. Why are they the dominant rhetorical force in the west?

As you know because you are sentient, the Apartheid accusation is applied to Palestinians living in Palestine. You pointing at another population and going "Well obvious they aren't living under Apartheid" is not very impactful. We were already aware.

It’s a shame that there isn’t enough moderate Arab strength to join the opposition. Palestinian Arabs mostly under Hamas & PIJ killed or kidnapped 1400 Israelis, mostly civilians, roughly 3 years ago. Do you know why Israelis would have an issue partnering with political parties that can't call the main perpetrator, Hamas, a terrorist organization? Anytime you want.

Well no I was interested in the opinions and worldviews that you have developed based on your belief that Arabs are too extreme. That's the main reason why I asked about that and not something else. As you know, because hopefully you paid attention in school, apartheid was a system of racial domination and oppression. Please run me through the logic that, on the one hand, Israel is practicing apartheid on Palestinians in the WB because they are Arab Palestinians, but on the other, they provide full equal rights to a population that is racially and religiously identical? Does that really make sense to you?

I already got the gist of where the apartheid crew is sitting in the rationalization phase, and it’s about as ahistorical and incoherent as might be predicted. Let me know if you have anything on the subject of apartheid that you haven’t said yet. This thread seems to be devolving into the three/four pro-Israel posters circlejerking themselves about how discretely they can pretend settler-colonialism is irrelevant to the Apartheid accusation instead of acting in good faith, which is fine by me. Maybe this could just become a live thread for IDF/settler war crimes and discrimination against Arabs in Israel/Palestine.
