People are now seriously discussing the possibility of a trump coup and the military getting involved. Has everyone lost his head? That will never ever happen, get real. Trump is fine,he did more or less pass the first real test (the mid terms). Why would republicans want get rid of him,he gave them everything they ever dreamed of. He has to much support to be replaced. In 2 years democrats can try again against trump.

They should want to get rid of him because he is actively interfering in the Mueller investigation. Even Lindsey Graham said there would be "holy hell to pay" if he ever fired Sessions. It's time for them to step up. But they won't. They're too afraid of what the investigation is going to reveal about the Republican fundraising apparatus and its ties to Russia. The entire party is in a panic. The wave of retirements was not a coincidence. Especially Paul Ryan. Anyway, everyone should be calling for his removal for this attack on the rule of law in America.

Well, Trump is taking the actions neccessary to dismantle a democracy, which is very worrying. The course of action that is taken when a democracy turns into a dictatorship in recent history is about 20% of the way there currently. Personally I don't think he can, as American democratic institutions should be strong enough, but he is certainly trying.

Do you guys think anything will come of Abrams not accepting Kemp as the winner of the Georgia governor position? I read about lots of voting problems there.

So now the White House has released doctored video from Info Wars to justify removing Acosta's press pass. Talk about fake news.
|
He will still “win”. But there is no question that he flagrantly abused his power as Secretary of State to suppress voters he couldn’t win over. So the more headlines that gets, the better.

Do you mean what Sanders tweeted? How was that doctored? To me it looks the same as the C-Span broadcast except grainy Twitter quality.
Also, Jim Acosta went on CNN and told people he never touched her, when there is video of him touching her and saying "pardon me, ma'am," presumably because he just touched her. Why wouldn't he admit that? Be the bigger man and so on.

I imagine his side of the story is that he didn't touch her, but rather, she touched him. It's indisputable that she was motioning toward him to take his mic away. The contact on his part was defensive.

And the video is straight off of info wars, which is a conspiracy theory website. Sanders tweeted it out.
They revoked his pass for a stupid, made up reason rather than him not following the rules and asking follow up questions. And now they are doubling down by releasing doctored videos.
Edit: here is someone breaking down how it was doctored -

Just look at the reflexive denial of the video's doctoring above, it's not even a conscious thought at this point.
|
Also, operation “Faithful Patriot” has a new name, since the military thought that name wasn’t appropriate. And the caravan has disappeared from Fox news. We won’t hear about birthright citizenship until 2020.
|
yep, people both in this thread and in the admin are still going to claim that isn’t doctored. seeing the sequence of events out of sequence won’t even register. han shot first, but in real life and brought to you by the press secretary of the us.

Two years is a long time and Republicans will be defending a lot of seats in 2020.
|
it might be a little while before the dems can retake the senate. they need to build that state level bench to produce good senate candidates, which they did a pretty good job of the last couple years. the folks who got elected this time around likely include a good number of future senators.
however, if the economy crashes and trump continues to act like dogshit anything could happen.
|
I understand people having a difference of opinion on the economy, immigration, foreign policy, social issues, etc.
But things like releasing doctored footage to paint a false narrative, revoking press passes, interfering with an independent investigation, and so on are really worrying to me, and I wish they would be as worrying to everyone else. Releasing doctored tape to justify revoking a press pass in retaliation of critics especially seems to be a new low to me, and I am honestly worried about where it goes from here. I consider myself a reasonable person, but I have no delusion that republicans in congress are going to do nothing about any of this.
That's not to say this is the last straw or anything. The last straw for me regarding Trump was like 2.5 years ago. But I guess I'm finally starting to realize and accept the fact that many republicans are fine with the total destruction of government accountability and neutrality as long as it's their guy in charge when it goes down.
Meanwhile, let's check in on the liberal media machine....
"Democrats win; Trump panics" - We didn't win Lawrence, we just didn't die. It's not an accomplishment. In my honest opinion, democrats lost pretty hard Tuesday. We showed that, with all the outrage, all the "get out the vote" outreach (of which there was A FUCKING LOT), and all the injustice going on every day, the best we can do is compete. Meanwhile every republican that opposed Trump in any pseudo-meaningful way is gone. Trump's stranglehold over the party is 100% at this point. After the results Tuesday, every republican knows they have to get in line or face the consequences. Of course this emboldens Trump to do even more heinous things.
Thanks for feeding me a bunch of sugar though, Lawrence. Placate the masses for those clicks.
Trump Mocks GOP Candidates who Didn't Embrace Him - "Oh dear! He acts so inappropriate at times!!" Why can't we just call it what it is? Trump is (smartly - never thought I'd actually say that about Trump) broadcasting to anyone paying attention that he has 100% control over the republican party, and if you don't kiss the ring, you are gone. Oh Colbert, how far you have fallen.
In other news, there was a mass shooting in California early this morning. My heart goes out to those who were wounded or killed. No idea if it was politically motivated yet, but it did happen the day after the election results, so I'd say it's slightly more likely than normal.
Anybody have any suggestions for a good country to move to? Hypothetically, of course.

I'm having trouble seeing it as quickly as the rest of you and this is despite spending over 20 minutes staring. Was it really so obvious when you watched it yourselves or did you kind of take everyone's consensus?
In the first video I definitely get it when the video on the right finishes the chop first, although I think it's reaching to say she got to the mic first in the other video. But in the second "further analysis" tweet with them right next to each other it really looks like everything is happening in the same order just slightly earlier in the video on the left, like the guy who made the comparison simply couldn't sync them any closer.
Further, at the end he says "the videos are in sync again," now why would they be in sync again? They sped something up and then slowed something down later to make up time so nobody would notice? Is that how sinister and competent Infowars is? Or is this just a different quality video. I mean the whole thing is in the place of like 2 seconds at most so we'd be talking about millisecond differences. Because if true it'd have to be quite obviously doctored for you to blame the WH for intentionally tweeting a fake video rather than just the version they saw that zoomed in on the incident specifically. Which, speaking of, this seems like a distraction from what we can all see clearly in the agreed-upon C-span version.

thousand oaks was historically ranked as one of the safest places to live in the US too. so this really drives home that this shit can happen anywhere.

I agree the side-by-side embedded in that tweet is shitty. I had already looked at footage by Googling "doctored acosta footage." Here you go.
