I'm tired of explaining this over and over again, but nobody is expecting oBlade or Introvert etc. to change their minds. I only post in this thread to prevent it from becoming a fascist circlejerk to radicalize people who don't pay attention to politics.

Some of my favorite posters are these who every now and then parachute in to proclaim how stupid the whole thread is because people engage with each other, and yes, engage with people like oBlade.

I really don't get what these folks think we are doing here, it's basically an very low stakes debate club.

I personally decided to never engage oBlade again, at least not until he answers a very simple question which to me is completely disqualifying from participating in a politics debate club, but I don't mind when other people call out and meticulously disassemble his weak ass reasoning and trolling attempts, sometimes I'll read it, sometimes I'll skip it.

Thinking that anyone here is in the business of changing minds shows clear lack of understanding on how internet works.

The value I extract from this is being more informed, hearing and engaging with opinions different then my own and killing boredom, and that should be enough.

Im just constantly amazed you guys have energy and time to do this every day for years and years. And for a low stakes debate space, posters here get heated a lot and there's a lot of ad hominem attacks and name calling.

Anyway, sorry for bothering you, gl hf

I don't know, it's kind of a "calling a spade a spade" situation to me. + Show Spoiler +
When righties cheer for ICE, blowing up kids or starting wars, well, it's very hard for me not to call them fascists.

When someone like GH ranks Democratic party as his #1 target above actual fascists + Show Spoiler +
and consistently sides with Russia and China above his own country, it's hard for me not to call him a tankie.

It doesn't mean that I hate them or am even angry at them as people, I think they are victims of circumstance and propaganda, and while I don't think I have the ability to change their mind, I do hope that they do some day.

As far as energy goes, I find it strangely relaxing.

They aren't. Not that something like reality will change your perspective.

Most everyone here easily recognizes the fascists at this point. People have a harder time recognizing the role Democrats and the performative opposition from their supporters serve in laying the foundations, facilitating, and propagating fascism, but you, dyhb, LS, and others are helping to illustrating that part.

Trump's long association and mutual support with Democrats was absolutely indispensable in becoming rich and powerful enough to run for President. Democrat incompetence and hubris was indispensable in him becoming president 2x (so far).

The functionally unconditional support of Democrats was indispensable in getting us Trump, it demonstrably is not how to stop fascism.

Introvert appears to be 100% correct. There is a lot of interest in taxing the rich but once that's done everyone seems to eager to spend that money.

I made Gemini do a little napkin math on the debt problem.

The "solution" is a scenario where the administration lowers the deficit from current levels to 3% over 4 years, then from 3% to 0% over another 4 years and then the US holds at 0% deficit for 20 years.

In scenario one Trump keeps spending on the current trajectory for 2 years and is then immediately replaced with a fiscally responsible administration. So the process begins in 2028 and ends in 2056.
In scenario two Trump is replaced with an administration that keeps spending for another 8 years (that is 10 years of spending on the current trajectory) before being replaced with an administration that reduces the deficit. So the process begins in 2036 and ends in 2064
In scenario three there is another administration with uncontrolled spending for a total of 18 years. So the scenario begins in 2044 and ends in 2072.

Results are as follows:
Tax level when deficit hits 0%:
Scenario 1: 23,5% of GDP or a 32% hike of federal income tax.
Scenario 2: 24,8% of GDP or a 39% hike of federal income tax.
Scenario 3: 26,2% of GDP or a 47% hike of federal income tax.

Debt after the process ends:
Scenario 1: 50-53%
Scenario 2: 60-60%
Scenario 3: 70-74%
If never balanced: >175%

Currently the top 1% generates 20% of national income, hold 31% of total US household wealth and pay roughly 25% of all federal taxes (about 4,5% of GDP).
If you want to make only the top 1% pay for only the deficit reduction their tax burden needs to shift from ~4,5% of GDP to between 10,2% to 12,9% depending on scenario. That's an increase between +127% to 187%.

Obviously not achievable by increasing income tax (a little hard to get that above 100%).

To get that kind of revenue from annual wealth tax you would need a tax from 3,5-5,5% on all net worth for the top 1%, or (6-8% annually if you only target people with more than 15mn).

Gemini suggested a 4-5% national wealth tax with top income tax at about 70%.

If these figures are even remotely correct (which they probably are) I think wanting to tax the rich and then spending that money on anything except deficit reduction is like anticipating a raise from work and then immediately blowing that on travel and takeout when you have a fat mortgage and two maxed out credit cards.
It will be painful for most Americans and that really can’t be sold to voters in today’s climate. The same goes for the spending side. So what gets pitched is increasing taxes on just the rich, or ignoring it entirely.

Ignore it for too long and either GH finds himself on the side of a majority of Americans or you end up in Cyberpunk 2077.

There is no "or", this are the same. It is also for now default outcome.

They objectively played an indispensable role in his ascent and victory. That's just a fact of reality. The failure/refusal to integrate it into one's worldview is debilitating to forming coherent positions regarding US politics.

You know who played a much bigger part? The party who nominated him.

You know who is keeping him in power, cowering and indulging his every whim? The GOP.

You know who is the only hope of reversing Trump policies and getting any sense of normalcy after he is gone, well it sure as hell is not GOP, and hate to break it to you, it's not DSA or a new mythical 3rd party or a revolution, it's the fucking Democrats.

Considering that I don't live or vote in the US, I think I'm pretty safe from being a serious propagator of fascism.

Given that you aren't even able to say that you'd vote against republicans in a key Senate state that might help push it back, plus, you know, your propensity to justify murder of kids, support for genocide, wars of aggression etc., I'd say you score like 8/10 on the "fascist enabler" scale.

Yeah, real shame the Democrat faction of the Epstein class couldn't get him to run on selling their bullshit instead...

Democrat incompetence, intransigence (on points you yourself have raised), and the GOP's failures (he's truly devastated the politicians' leverage against their donors) got him and are keeping him in power.

Your framing is demonstrably wrong. Democrats are the pawl, not the release.

The actually somewhat defensible idea is that Democrats can basically be forced to do the "better enough for now" thing when threatened/leveraged with systemic collapse+ Show Spoiler +

Can you boil your plan down to 5 steps, 10000 foot view of how you are going to defeat fascism in the US. Clearly it doesn’t involve the Dems or Reps. Not looking for details here, just about how many people you are going to need, how many on board now. And what steps are you going to take? (Just general) how longish it will take? Body count estimate?

Even basics like how you will only allow one party of communists and yet it be a democracy would be interesting.

Looking forward to it.

“What happened to me was wrong, but I have had many years to think about this,” the victim’s letter read. “I have made my peace with it. I forgive him. That was a long time ago.”

“He is not the same person now. I have seen how he has changed,” the letter went on. “I believe he is sorry for what he did. I want his family to stay together here. His children need their father. He and his wife have built a life. I believe that he has learned and grown since the abuse and that the family has suffered enough. Please grant this pardon. That is my wish.”

Vang, now 42, addressed the board before the vote and expressed remorse for his actions.

“What I did was wrong. It was a serious crime. She was a child,” he said. “I took something from her that she cannot get back. From my heart, I am very sorry to the victim, sorry to other people who I hurt by these actions.“

Vang said he grew up without his father, who died in Thailand when he was 6 years old. He said he was in special education all his years in school. When he was arrested, he said he blamed his culture for the offense, “but that was a lie.”

“There’s no culture that makes what I did acceptable,” he said.

Vang’s lawyer, Winona Yang, told the board that he completed treatment afterward and never reoffended.

The perpetrator a) already served his time, b) was explicitly verbally remorseful, and most importantly, c) the victim spoke up in favor of his pardon after verbally forgiving him.

Does that make what Walz did right? Honestly, I don't know. I can't say with certainty I'd have done the same thing in his position, but it's easy to see how someone with a deep Christian faith that believes people are capable of changing after their time served would do so.

What I do know with certainty is that if the perpetrator were a white man and the victim were an undocumented immigrant, he'd still be walking free, whereas she'd be locked indefinitely in an ICE detention camp to be potentially force fed food that's rotten, denied medication, and given drinking water infested with worms.

The victim spoke up after the guy who raped her married her older sister.

This is why we don't let Stockholm syndrome victims be judges in their own cases.

Nor do I believe having children of your own should EVER be some kind of mitigating factor that lets you avoid the consequences of child sex crimes. I would actually rather child rapists had no children. Nor do I want them having children to use as legal shields. I certainly didn't mean to cover up evidence, it simply didn't change anything for me although it does for you. I feel no sympathy for the "man."

All in all I'm just good with refugees who think raping a girl and marrying her older sister is a cultural difference (his initial justification to investigators before the real him came out and repented 20 years later) taking refuge elsewhere.

This troll logic is like saying that pardoning Timothy McVeigh for the Oklahoma City bombing, and pardoning Ted Kaczynski for jaywalking, are the same because in both cases you pardoned a terrorist.

The child sex offense was not pardoned.

"countless"
The first word of the article is "Dozens."

Your article says there's 170 cases of sexual violence over 50 years. The US rape and sexual assault averages around 2 per 1000 annually. For an ICE/CBP of 50,000 people, over 50 years (back when it was INS), you'd expect 5,000 cases lol. Ergo, ICE is far less criminal (as you would expect as sworn federal officers in the line of duty) than the US average, and your neighborhood would be safer if ICE agents immigrated to it. Of course, anyone who breaks that oath and trust should be punished extra hard.

Stockholm Syndrome isn’t real.

Considering that I don't live or vote in the US, I think I'm pretty safe from being a serious propagator of fascism.
You should've thought ahead on "live or vote" before you tried to argue about my relation to Michigan. I'm sorry, but you've put yourself in the same boat as me.

Given that you aren't even able to say that you'd vote against republicans in a key Senate state that might help push it back, plus, you know, your propensity to justify murder of kids, support for genocide, wars of aggression etc., I'd say you score like 8/10 on the "fascist enabler" scale.
Given that you dismiss responses just to ask for more and change my argument to make it easier for your argument, I'd say you're more interested in trolling about US Politics than any alleged fascism within US politics. You, LS, and GH probably share more of that than any of you are willing to admit. If your real objective is to associate your trolling with your charges of fascism, I'd say that you're doing an excellent job and to please continue. GH says voting for Dems is fascism, but you say judging evidence in wartime is fascism, separating primary races from general races is fascism, and criticizing left-wing candidates within primaries is fascism, McCarthyism, and Israelmaxxing. All things considered, you're being pretty transparent and open about your game.

Oh, buddy, I already replied to myself when this whole "dyhb would flush his own country down the toilet as long as it would annoy leftists" saga.

In the hypothetical where I lived in Michigan, I would vote for the Democratic candidate for Senate.

See, its very easy, and it's extremely weird that you can't bring yourself to even reply to this question, or even comment on it, you just keep on deflecting like you did from the first moment this question has been posed to you.

Well, it would have been weird if you were who you try to sell yourself as and not a crypto-fascist.

Honestly, I have much more respect for oBlade, GH or Introvert, at least they are internally consistent and don't try to lie about who they are, more or less.

It's pretty pathetic that you can't even drop the act in an anonymous internet forum.

Their takes are so bad I would honestly respect them more if they admitted they were trolling.

It would still be negative respect but it would be more than it is now.

All the cryptofascism and McCarthyism and Israelmaxxing and the rest of the obstacles that you're constructing will hopefully tire you out. Whatever inner part of you is genuinely interested in engaging with the views of others is currently losing out to the stronger element that brands and dismisses the views of others. I'm observing the battle and hope that tomorrow or next week or next month the other one comes out on top.

We're guilty of arguing passionately for more moderate Democrats to represent that party in the national bodies. For that, the energy of my party's left wing energy is devoted to pushing moderate Democrats out of the party. The purity tests will continue until morale improves!

Only people around here refusing to do things is you and oBlade refusing to answer very simple questions.

At least oBlade just plainly ignores them, you don't even have the discipline to do that, thus the furious, hilarious and clearly triggered copy pasting.

Sure, let's bring this back up if you want to. I still don't think something an Internet streamer said years ago and already apologized for should be considered a bigger deal than something the actual candidates in the race said (in Stevens' case) or did (in Rogers' case) and didn't apologize for. But if you want to compare me to an adjudicated rapist for that, I guess I can't stop you, but I've been called worse things by better people.
