Israel and the U.S. have launched what Israel describes as a preemptive military strike against Iran, amid weeks of escalating tensions and heightened U.S. military presence in the region. https://www.npr.org/2026/02/28/nx-s1-5730158/israel-iran-strikes A person briefed on the operation told NPR the strike is being conducted jointly with the U.S. There was no immediate U.S. comment about the strikes. Iranian government media report rocket fire in parts of the capital, Tehran. State television has broadcast footage showing smoke rising after a blast in the city. The extent of the damage and potential casualties has not yet been confirmed. Air raid sirens sounded across Israel at approximately 8:15 a.m. local time, warning civilians to prepare to enter bomb shelters. In an official statement, Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz described the operation as a preemptive action aimed at neutralizing threats against Israel. "As a result, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future." He stated that missile and drone attacks from Iran were expected imminently. A 48-hour state of emergency has been declared nationwide. Israel has closed its airspace to all passenger flights, and civil defense protocols have been activated. Regional military forces remain on high alert. The strike follows weeks of speculation about potential military action against Iran, particularly amid a significant U.S. military buildup in the Middle East. This is a developing story and will be updated. So even Israel admits that they and the U.S. are preemptively attacking potential threats, yet also expecting retaliation for their attacks. Self-fulfilling prophecy. Sigh.

Forcing bad deals has historically soured situations. This is sometimes remembered but also popular way to please Trump. Hard to see why Iran would go for a deal that can not be trusted to stay intact. It is also hard to get the other side to agree afterwards that a deal is shitty and have the deal changed. Dropping out later would get them blamed for worsening the situation, as how the deal was reached would be conveniently forgotten by then.

I would be shocked if they were not trying to get nukes, its the only thing that could protect them from a very real and immediate threat.

Here's a link to the map updated live with major events happening in the region (like Iran blowing up US naval base in Bahrain). Video reel from that: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1566368144662421

Article from a week ago on Iranian war preparations. It seems like they learned from last year and had prepared. We'll see how well it ages, but regardless of what Iran manages to do to the US and its allies, it seems very very unlikely they will be brought down by an internal uprising. So what the fuck is the plan here? Toss bombs, hang up sign saying "Mission Accomplished" and sail away again in a week, leaving the entire world with an even stronger conviction that the US is not to be trusted or reasoned with, and the only real defense is nuclear? I'm sure glad Donald "Nobel Peace Prize" Trump is in charge. Imagine if there were an actual warmonger like #Hillary in the White House!

The guy normalized relations with Cuba, now Trump is starving them out. The Iran deal was negotiated under him, Trump killed it in first term, poisoned the relationship by assassinating Soleimani on his way out and now him and Nethyanahu are going all in on a regime change war. I really miss that pre 2016 world, where we had reasons for optimism and hope for a future that gravitates towards peace and democracy, not this fucking authoritarian, warmongering hellscape.

Blame the people in this thread that cheered for and helped bring this back. This is comeuppance for that. And they'll stay silent while cheering in their parents basement.

One couldn’t make a critique of the shiftless right wing warmonger more effective than simply letting displays of logic like this speak for themselves. Hilarious, tragic, Sad!
