Norway's first oil field opened in 1971 - looking at GDP we were slightly behind Sweden and Denmark at the time ($21k to $23k and $25k), ahead of Finland ($18k). Life expectancy was half a year behind Sweden, but almost a year above Denmark, and 4 years above Finland.
Anyway, even though we were slightly behind Sweden, if you disregard the micro states like Monaco and Andorra etc, Norway was ~top 5-10 in the world in wealth/life expectancy even before we started producing a drop of oil. And 52 years later (2023), Norway and Sweden have basically identical life expectancy 2 years ahead of Denmark, Norway is 10-20% higher on GDP/capita (Norway $66k, Sweden 54k, Denmark $60k). Oil has had an effect, for sure, but I think it might be a bit overstated/overestimated.
The oil fund is amazing, obviously, a great insurance for the future, and last year it contributed about 20% of our yearly budget - but there's no need for it to achieve a highly functional social democratic society. Where I imagine Norway really separates herself from Sweden and Denmark would probably rather be in stuff like, vacation homes per capita, and I think Norwegians have on average gone for more expensive vacations, I imagine we're ahead in Tesla ownership (no longer a source of pride). Basically - some of our luxury spending is higher.

The point here is saying "social democracy only works because of Norway's oil wealth" is not a persuasive argument when the same system works basically just as well for all its Nordic neighbors that don't have oil wealth.

Norway’s oil money hasn’t properly kicked in yet really. They’ve mostly saved it so they’re still doing things like working and paying taxes instead of importing a huge non citizen migrant worker population and retiring the way Qataris would. On paper they’re obscenely wealthy but they’re not spending down the principal or even all the interest, they’re growing it for their kids and their kid’s kids.
It’s actually a little bit weird, like people who win the lottery and keep working. Like Norway voters, do you not know that you’re done? It’s time to spend some, you’re ready to retire as a country. You don’t need to work anymore, the fund is big enough. Your children won’t be able to spend all that money.
They’re either dumb, workaholics, or the most selfless people imaginable. You don’t see Qataris doing dumb things like paying taxes or working jobs but Norwegians are like “well my grandpa worked a job before we struck oil and my dad worked to save the money so I wouldn’t have to and so I should work too”.

My students and I absolutely love to use Gapminder  Having 5 potential variables on a single graph is freakin' cool (x-axis variable, y-axis variable, color-coded circles based on world region/continent, sized circles based on population, and a play button / slider for moving through time).

I generally equate Trump supporters with the MAGA community/cult, but I suppose there could be degrees/scaling too: The more zealously they adore Trump, the more MAGA they are. If someone was a lifelong Republican and begrudgingly voted for Trump only because the alternative was a Democrat, I'd say they're probably not quite as MAGA as someone who proudly wears MAGA shirts and hats and constantly repeats Trump's nonsense. I haven't seen Miracle and I don't know enough about your wife to know how MAGA she is / if she's officially MAGA by most people's definitions.

This is so off-base I have to genuinely question where you’re getting that impression from.
It’s only a matter of weeks since the Dem establishment personified, Andrew Cuomo lost to the lefty outsider in the New York Mayoral Primary for the Dems.
The wider left can’t simultaneously be characterised by infighting and purity tests, but also be slavishly loyal and toe the establishment line.
Not all Conservatives, but the real cultists will let Trump away with basically anything. It’s so patently obviously the case. In this particular case you have people who were advocating for the release of the Epstein files for fucking donkeys, completely flipping on a dime
