JimmyJ lives in his own imagination talking to himself about most things. As an Albertan living in Alberta talking to Albertans every single day, I'll let you all know the very first time a single person even mentions Alberta seceding as a possibility. Despite JimmyJ's claims that it's a discussion Canadians are having, as an Albertan living in Alberta it isn't something I've even heard mentioned yet.

Strong line of inquiry. I guess it's possible a person could avoid facing a lawsuit in court because they believe they might get railroaded despite not being in the wrong, which sometimes happens as you imply. Especially for defamation cases like Stephanopoulos's. After all, standards of proof to award damages at a lawsuit are different than those for criminal cases. Just get the wrong jury or wrong judge and things might have gone pretty south for Stephanopoulos. He was wise to avoid a situation like that entirely, although I wouldn't hold it against him if he tried to fight it. Settling lets you lose anyway, but with less drawn-out and potentially harmful publicity and lower damages. Just tear the bandaid right off and be done with it. He could also be extremely busy, and it takes a while to appeal, or the local opinion could be biased against him, which might have hurt his chances despite his actual lack of wrongdoing. You bring up a good point.

FWIW I don't really agree with JimmyR on the Canadian Identity stuff. I think you'd find a bit more of a unique regional identity on the east coast maybe then your used to in the greater TO area, Also if you've ever been to say the Thunderbay area they do it a bit different as well.. That being said we have imported a lot of people who clearly aren't (at least for now) assimilating and in fact are avidly not assimilating. Idk if that's good or bad but it is a thing. Also not the Canada land politics thread. How's the land of the free doing? .

It’s a way more active thread, and it’s only being brought up due to the 51st State rhetoric which is fully within the US Pol remit. If I thought it was really much of a thing I’d go discuss further over there, but it seems to be a Jimmy exclusive Thanks to you Canucks for your collective half a dollar!

Is it just about having to have an enemy that they already know, or is it because he won an election against them once, and they just cannot deal with the fact that big orange lost?

Trump's been blaming Biden for this year's economic failures and any other issues he has. Apparently, the buck stopped in January.

How can you blame a clone/android replacement for these things? Surely they’ve yet to develop that real-world experience in order to navigate such tricky waters? I have long since given up on there being any kind of idiocy that becomes disqualify these days. Fucking hell lads this is the President Perhaps at some, hopefully imminent juncture we can look back and ‘wow that was a couple of weird years’, fingers crossed

But even if he were to leave, the republican party and lots of other "conservative" parties and their media outlets around the world have been thoroughly infected with this insanity. And so far, at any junction where they have had a choice to get off the insanity and return to the normal world, they have without fault chosen to double down. This shit will be with us for a while.

Guess the right wing didn't learn from their initial counter offensive after Musks nazi salute. You can cut video and pictures to make a lot of waves look like a salute, but you don't have to cut Musks at all, he makes real sure you know what your seeing. (obv doing this sort of wave in the current political situation in the US (and outside) is not the smartest thing to do)

It does say a lot that these are the things that you Elon/Trump enjoyers come to these threads with, I guess actually arguing for the insane shit they've been doing is kind of impossible so all you are left is "technically Trump is not a convicted rapist" and "actually Elon did a common wave that everyone does".
