My favorite part of the California senate election is that after Diane Feinstein died Gavin Newsom fulfilled his promise to appoint a black woman to the Senate. He wanted someone to just be a caretaker of the Senate seat until the election.
What do you call this? Pandering? Tokenism? How is it not incredibly insulting to offer such an unbelievably hollow gesture to essentially say "I'm going to nominate a black woman to be a baby sitter for this Senate seat for a few months" Does he think black people are too stupid to see through this hollow pandering? No wonder black voters are leaving the Democrat party...
Barbara Lee didn't win. She came in 3rd among Democrats. One of her proposals was the raise the minimum wage to $50/hour. A ridiculous proposition according to economists but I'd argue it's ideas like that that would make her the best fit to hold elected office in California.

I take great issue with going from "Gavin Newsom did this dumb thing that treats black voters like they're stupid" to "No wonder black voters are leaving the Democrat party." There's an important missing piece in the logic chain there. You could certainly make a statement about how Newsom's behavior is just the latest in a sequence of other similar examples... but you didn't.

Well I didn't want to go into a whole rant but since you asked, some other examples are Congressional Dems taking a knee in the capital while wearing Kente cloth, or passing an "anti-lynching" law in 2022 when the last lynching happened over 40 years ago.
But I suspect the real reason that blacks voters are leaving the Democrat party are things like this

Video contents - some alert Harlem (historically black neighborhood of NYC) residents caught government officials attempting to turn a vacant luxury apartment building into a migrant shelter. After they were caught they backtracked and said it will no longer be used for migrant housing.
Or the example where 2,000 students were forced back into remote learning while their high school was used as a temporary migrant shelter.
Youtube has plenty of videos of city council meetings of NYC, Baltimore, Chicago, etc. where you can see how royally PISSED off these residents are about the city coffers being opened to help migrants. It's hard to fault them, imaging being on the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder for years and looking for help and suddenly there are tens of millions of dollars available for migrants that just showed up. A lot of them are feeling left out in the cold and unfortunately slapping a BLM bumper sticker on a car isn't going to fix that.

Well Newsom is a politician I take particular pleasure in watching get humiliated or twisted into knots. Lee was unpopular, but still it is funny he had to go all the way to MD because of a stupid promise. But then again, Biden made the same mistake! At least it's worth a laugh, and Kamala is basically Biden's insurance.

I agree that there is still the formality of playing out some extra primaries, just to reach the required delegate count. I meant that no one is left to oppose Trump, so the rest is just really operating on auto-pilot. For all intents and purposes, the primaries are over. If anyone had thought Haley had a chance at becoming the nominee over Trump, they now know that they're wrong.
Apparently, Haley hasn't endorsed Trump yet. For Biden's sake, I hope that Trump doesn't pick Haley as his runningmate. I think that a Trump/Haley ticket would be very tough for Biden/Harris to beat.

It would be the sensible move pragmatically, something tells me Trump’s ego and general dislike of folks challenging him would preclude it, but hey more surprising things have happened.

Yeah Haley ran as anti-Trump. I can't see his ego getting over that, and since Pence denied him his attempted Coup I would suspect he wants someone deep in the cult who will be willing to shit over the constitution for him.

I think that makes sense, and that kind of cultist-Trump redundancy for a runningmate could give Biden a decent opening. Trump needs to lock in the voters who chose Haley in the primary, and he's not going to do that by picking someone like Ramaswamy or Scott, who is either already hardcore-MAGA or has no popularity.

Trump is truly a master at drawing the shadow out. The other day I watched people foaming at the mouth that Trump was Hitler because he said something about the "blood of the nation." Normal people watch all of this and they take notice. It seems his popularity among black and Hispanic voters is also increasing, and the lawfare isn't working. This is going to be one of the most lopsided electoral landslides in American political history.

Oh yeah we know he does this on purpose. He uses the same words Hitler used when he wanted to demonize a population so people would be okay with the forceful rounding up of them into camps where that population could be concentrated in.
There's no shadow projection he's outright telling you what he wants to do. Are you under the impression that people are going to willingly be torn from their children and be sent to camps with a smile on their face? Do you think that they will then be deposited safely in some other nation? What do you think is suppose to happen when they get there?
