Agreed. The misplaced sentiment is just so strange.

This week, the influential podcaster Joe Rogan, who has been dismissive of vaccines, announced he had tested positive for Covid and was taking ivermectin.
In Arkansas, the drug was given to inmates at a jail. Louisiana and Washington issued alerts after an increase in calls to poison control centers. Some animal feed supply stores have run out of the drug because of people buying it in its veterinary form.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cited a case of a man who drank an injectable form of ivermectin intended for cattle. He suffered hallucinations, confusion, tremors and other side effects and was hospitalised for nine days.

I do like the CDC response www.theguardian.com: the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had a simple message for Americans contemplating using ivermectin, a medicine used to deworm livestock, instead of getting a Covid shot:
“You are not a horse,” it said. “You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.” If you think you’re smarter than everyone and know best, when it turns out you are wrong do you admit it or double down? People tend to be extremely reluctant to do the former if they’re emotionally invested or some position is tied in with some wider sense of identity. Even at a subconscious level, whereas people who aren’t emotionally invested can shrug and say ‘ok my bad I was wrong on that.’ In this case it’s more about some anti-authority streak or ‘owning the libs’ than anything coldly rational from these folks, to change course is to admit those crazy libs had a point. So they’ll find a halfway house, perhaps they know someone who died from Covid or whatever, so they’re past the point of outright being able to deny it exists and are perhaps worried for their own health. But to take the vaccine is a step too far against their ideological posturing, so they’ll hunt for something else to assuage their fears while not crushing their own sense of self. Even if it’s something as ridiculous as horse dewormer.
How to deal with the mass of terminally stupid though? Like if you are so narcissistic/crazy/whatever that you would rather take a horse dewormer than admit you are wrong? How do the sane people cope with such a ridiculously large slice of the population that is so unfortunately misled? Like literally, they are killing us. At what point do you bash your fellow sailor in the lifeboat over the head and eat him? How many holes do they have to cut in our inflatable raft first? It's so dumb, like 50-100 people are literally trying to kill the rest of us with their rhetoric because they are too greedy/dumb/oblivious/lazy to see reality. You would have to be minus normal brain capacity at this point (that is TBI/birth defect) to not recognize the dangers of a pandemic virus. Imean, the simple solution would be to just kill all the celebrity anti-vax/maskers but that isn't how peaceful societies do stuff (I don't condone this). I'm really searching, as a pacifist and someone who thinks we should all try to work together, to find a solution short of removing the infected tissue. For the life of me, I really can't think of a good solution.

I’m unsure as to what one does, it’s a dangerous conflation of arrogance and ultimate stupidity. Without the arrogance people would deign to a sensible wielding of authority, without the stupidity people wouldn’t do fucking stupid things. But in combination you get people who refuse to listen to sensible suggestions and who do stupid fucking things.
Having a large portion of our media earning its crust for how many eyes it can get on things, rather than the informative quality of what they’re laying eyes on certainly doesn’t help.
I may heartily disagree with an ardent fan of capitalism who’s espousing its virtues over my preferred socialism, but hey it’s a complex, complex topic with many plausible interpretations.
With downing casks of horse dewormer this isn’t some battle of complex socioeconomic models, there’s an outright wrong side of this discussion. I’m thoroughly, thoroughly sick of it but neither do I know what one is to do about it.

People are encroaching on my unalienable right to liberty by trying to infect me with a deadly virus. I work in a medical office. I can't count the times I've politely reminded people to maintain a 6 foot distance and they've responded with "No, it's okay." No person, NO, it is NOT ok. That's not how it works. Half of my coworkers have had to call out sick in the past year bc of their personal beliefs about vaccines (I'll let you draw conclusions here, can neither confirm nor deny). I've had someone tell me they wouldn't get the vaccine bc it gave their mom diarrhoea. It's absolutely stupid to the point of insanity and people are dying as a direct result. The whole issue is that this is a life/death situation for half the population and for the other half it's like "ladeeedah, my hair."

As a Black person in the US, that describes a lot of the issues I have with/in this country. It also works as a TLDR on the US's approach to mitigating the impending global ecological catastrophe.

I await the first Texan who hops over the border to Mexico to go and get an abortion:
Activists say women could crossover from Texas – where new laws restrict abortion to about the first six of pregnancy – to neighbouring Coahuila, as medical tourism is common. Some saw irony in the situation, though.
“We used to go to Texas or Mexico City,” said Jackie Campbell, women’s rights activist in Saltillo, capital of Coahuila. “Now we don’t have to leave to have this right.”

But wouldn't asshole pro-life trolls be able to sue literally everyone involved in that, including the cab driver who drives them to the bus, for a 10k$ bounty?

It's excessively vague for a specific purpose.

So, I've got a business idea.
Get pregnant. Wait 8 weeks Take a cab to an abortion clinic Get an abortion
Sue the cab driver for 10k, abortion clinic for 10k as well, and any other entities you can think of. If you lose 10k for getting an abortion you're still ahead.
You can probably pull this off 4 times a year, so you'd need to get 30-40k/abortion to make it worthwhile assuming you get sued sometimes.

A fake real story, for sure.

There are a lot of 10k checks going around.

our tax dollars hard at work. god bless republicans and their belief in small government.
losers.
|
Its sad cause texas is not at that red ether, republicans have just been so good at disenfranchising any voters that dont vote for them it does not matter how backwards there polices become. Masterclass of making government body that can pretty much ignore your votes. I always think it funny about people saying texas voting blue for the simple fact that republicans would not let it happen
