At least Biden can refocus the FBI to combat such efforts after the Trump admin tried their best to ignore and downplay them.

McConnell has already said the Senate will do nothing until after the inauguration and unless someone goes and tries to assassinate Biden no one is going to care anymore that the Capitol was stormed by insurgents trying to overthrow democracy.

I'm confident we will see some sort of task force and increased emphasis or homegrown right wing terrorists. That's not actually good. The FBI or CIA don't care about right wing terrorists and will forget about any mandate the second it becomes convenient to focus all their newly acquired powers on left wing opposition. I guess the only issue with that logic is that they're already so powerful and temporarily directing them towards the right might be good in the short term, but I don't know, that seems myopic.
I think a better immediate result could be that the Dems might sanction GOP insurrectionists in Congress who provoked this attack, but that would require them to actually do something so maybe it won't happen.

So do people think dems impeach of stimulus first? How long do these things take when democrats are in charge? Without republicans dragging at every possible moment?
|
Stimulus will probably happen as soon as Biden is in. Impeach will take time because reps are dragging ass.

What can they do to drag? Pelosi introduces impeachment --> vote. Schumer introduces impeachment --> vote. What allows republicans to delay?
|
Not getting the required number of reps to vote for it. You need 67. There's only 55 at best. I don't know where you'll find the other 12.
|
That's conviction.
The impeachment will happen first, as the vote is happening next week and it is a lot simpler than the previous one or the stimulus. Trump could easily be impeached based on his own statements before the next week is over.
Conviction and stimulus can be done at the same time. Neither can start before the 20th in the Senate. They are totally different committees on the Senate and house. Conviction is probably easier to get buy in from Republicans than the stimulus.

If we have 51 votes, a few republicans as well, isn’t it easy?

A few of them would be, but it is a remarkably small number : Murkowski, Romney. I don't treat any of the others seriously when they say they'll buck the party line.
The 2k check, if done asap, might pass. But it is much more likely that people will push for a much larger stimulus package than just 2k checks, since it would be equally difficult to pass.

The Senate is in recess and can only take action by unanimous consent. Which isn't going to exist for impeachment.
Therefor there will be no impeachment vote before the inauguration.

So we have 49 democrats (fuck manchin), Harris, just need 1 republican. Romney, Murkowski, Collins? I have a hard time believing zero of them vote for it. All we need is 1 to make up for manchin.
